About this property

Private Dock on Fontana Lake | Wraparound Views

Picture this: it’s early morning, and you’re sitting in a rocking chair on the wraparound deck, a cup of coffee warming your hands, watching mist lift off the emerald-green surface of Fontana Lake. The mountains are still soft and blue in the distance. Behind you, through the French doors, someone’s already puttering in the kitchen. Down the stone path through the trees, your private dock waits — and for the next few days, none of you have anywhere else to be.

Fontana Lake Cottage is a charming gray-blue lakefront cottage tucked into the forest along the shores of Fontana Lake in Robbinsville, North Carolina — deep in the heart of the Great Smoky Mountains. It was made for the kind of trip you’ve been meaning to plan: the one where Mom and Dad finally get the grandkids for a long weekend, or where two couples who’ve been saying “we should get away together” actually do it, or where three generations gather around one table and nobody has to sleep on an air mattress.

The main cottage is warm and inviting, with an open-plan living and dining area anchored by a wood-burning fireplace that makes cool mountain evenings feel like a gift. Large windows flood the space with natural light and frame views of the surrounding forest. The sunroom — with its Adirondack chairs and French doors that open to the deck — becomes the spot everyone gravitates to, whether it’s for morning coffee, afternoon reading, or watching the kids play in the yard.

Upstairs you’ll find comfortable bedrooms with real beds and thoughtful touches. But the real magic of this property is the private mother-in-law suite — a separate space with its own kitchen, sitting area, bathroom, and sleeping quarters with vaulted wood-paneled ceilings. Grandparents get their own retreat with privacy and independence. A second couple gets breathing room. Teenagers get a domain of their own. However your group is shaped, having that separate space transforms a vacation from “fun but exhausting” to “we should do this every year.”

Step outside and the property unfolds. The multi-level deck wraps around the cottage, with a covered grill area for cookouts and rocking chairs positioned just right for sunset watching. Follow the fire pit trail into the trees for evening s’mores under a canopy of stars. And then there’s the lake — walk the stone path down through the forest to your private covered dock on Fontana Lake, where the water glows green against a backdrop of mountain ridgelines. Fish, swim, kayak, or just sit and let the quiet wash over you.

From the air, the property tells the whole story: a cozy cottage with its own dock, completely enveloped by lush mountain forest, sitting right on one of the most beautiful lakes in the Smokies. It’s private. It’s secluded. And it’s yours.

Back inside, you have everything you need: a full kitchen, washer and dryer, modern bathrooms, and enough space that nine people can spread out without stepping on each other — and then come back together whenever they want.

Some places are just a house in a nice spot. This one feels like it’s been waiting for your family to arrive.

Fantastic house on the lake, just perfect for my wife and I. The big porch overlooking the water was quiet and beautiful, and everything inside the house was great. We will definitely stay there again! One tip for future renters: Make sure all of the instructions for accessing the house is downloaded or available without WiFi or LTE signal…you lose connection as you enter the neighborhood, and we had to go back up the road to get the instructions (our fault, but just wanted to give others a heads up)It was a wonderful stay!
