About this property

Ponderosa House- Peaceful and Quiet

For those seeking solitude………you know who you are….
Toast marshmallows and watch the stars in our high altitude, low light pollution mountain paradise gem. Privately nestled in a tall pine and aspen forest. At 9,300 ft, the summers are cool, the wildflowers are plentiful and the stars are bright. Very private, very quiet. Sip your coffee on the deck and maybe the local moose, elk or deer will pay you a visit.
Wildlife you won’t miss- mosquitoes. Enjoy your stay in our mosquito-less mountain.

The space
This listing is for a fully private tiny house located in a forest of tall pines and aspen groves on 7 private acres in a true dark sky zone.

Lots of windows let in all of the gorgeous Colorado sunshine.

This is a no pets home due to allergies.

The mini kitchen has a black granite countertop, fridge with freezer, two burner stove, microwave, Keurig coffee maker with K-cups provided, blender, waffle iron, and toaster. The kitchen is well stocked for cooking, including dishes, pots & pans, cooking utensils, BBQ grill outside.

The bathroom has a generously sized shower and flushing toilet. Stocked with shampoo & conditioner, soap and plenty of towels & washcloths.

Make your way upstairs to the queen sized bed or stay downstairs on the full sized sofa sleeper.

Relax here and take in the sounds and fresh air of the forest.
Star gazing is especially amazing here as it is a high altitude with very little light pollution.

The peak for fall colors is late September/early October and snow can fall anytime from October through May.

TV upstairs with DVDs. WiFi is provided through Starlink.

If you are considering booking with small children, please note the steepness of the stairs and style of railing.
Sleeping on the sofa sleeper downstairs is always an option for children or anyone not comfortable with stairs.

We know how important a campfire in the mountains is and as local bans and contidions permit, safe campfires are always welcome.

We know that you like to travel with pets and we appreciate your companions but a member of our family is highly allergic to dogs. We make great efforts to keep the space spotlessly clean and allergen free. Due to allergy issues, pets are absolutely not allowed at this time. Please do not attempt to sneak in any pets.

Be sure to screenshot your directions as the cell signal comes and goes during the drive up. This cabin is located on a 2wd dirt road. It’s usually passable in any car but during the winter months, 4wd may be needed.

Mountain towns: looking for local shops, restaurants and strolls? Salida and Canon City are both about 45 minutes away.
Looking for some hot springs? There is an indoor hot springs pool in Salida. Mount Princeton is just past Salida with its renowned hot springs.
White Water Rafting: Some of the best in Colorado along the Arkansas River! Royal Gorge, home of the highest suspension bridge in the US, is a 45 minute drive from the cabin. Visiting in the Winter? Monarch Mountain is about an hour's drive.

At 9,300 feet in altitude, we do get lots of snow in the winter. The 6 miles of dirt road is county maintained but it does take time for snow to be plowed.

Had the most amazing experience here. The cabin was so cozy, filled with snacks, coffee and popcorn..being from Texas i sure was thankful for the air conditioning. The view was breathtaking, we loved our chipmunks that visited often and the sky full of stars were incredible. Jullian the host was the most respectful and responsive from any vrbo I've ever rented. I truly appreciated the quick response in a very timely manner. They were very nice . I will absolutely be back. Thank you Jullian.

This is a delightful cabin nestled in the beautiful and quiet mountains. It felt brand new. We enjoyed lounging indoors, outdoors, and in the hammock. Sleeping in the loft was easy for us, but it could be difficult for someone really tall. Two of the three nights had very clear skies showcasing lots of stars. We had great WiFi access at the cabin, but spotty cell coverage driving up the mountain as expected. I was glad we followed the host’s suggestion to take screenshots of the location and check-in instructions before leaving the highway so we could find our way. Google Maps worked reliably. (I downloaded the offline map to my phone ahead of time which helped.)It took us about 20 min to drive from the cabin to Cotopaxi where we booked an Arkansas River Tour (rafting). It took about 1 hr to drive from the cabin to Canon City to see the Royal Gorge. Anyone looking for a quiet and remote place to stay should love this place!
