About the host

Hosted by Doug & Lori Petersen

Host profile image
Doug and Lori purchased this apartment and the surrounding property in early 2013. The building has now become a neighborhood gem. The first floor was brilliantly restored to house Valley Wine Merchants, a wine mercantile with a wall of wine that will make any wine taster giddy. The owners are excited to offer the second story (The Newberg Downtowner) to travelers from near and far. The Downtowner Newberg is filled with amazing finds from Doug's experience as an auctioneer that he couldn't wait to share.

Why they chose this property

Doug's gift is seeing the potential in a property. After restoring numerous properties throughout Newberg (the kind of homes you'd see on This Old House), Doug saw the beauty and reward of restoring this building and what it could offer the community. The Downtowner Newberg was stripped to the bones and re-planned and furnished to accommodate the modern necessities of a traveler(s) to Oregon Wine Country.

What makes this property unique

Once you're here, your home. You're part of a neighborhood and part of the charm of the small wine and food centric community of Newberg. Walk across the street and get a cup of coffee and a baked good from Coffee Cat, stroll down the street and visit over 50 local artists at ART Elements, go downstairs and chat with Andrew at Valley Wine Merchants and find a bottle of wine you will want to share during the holidays or go across the street to The Painted Lady for a romantic fine dining experience you'll never forget. Welcome to Downtown Newberg, welcome to our community.
