About this property

Cabin Retreat for Two on Islesford, Little Cranberry Island

Nestled in the woods on a small island easily accessed by ferry, our "tiny" cabin offers island serenity with all the essentials. Small in size, yet perfect for two- enjoy the porch swing or its wicker chairs for a peaceful afternoon with a book or walk your coffee to Gilley Beach and watch the sun rise, just a few hundred yards down the road. The dining table easily accommodates 4 should you want to invite your new island friends over for drinks or dinner!

The Cabin offers a full bathroom with oversize shower with paper goods, soap, and towels provided. A well-equipped kitchen offers a two-burner cooktop, fridge, microwave/convection combo, toaster, keurig coffee maker with pods, and handheld mixer along with all the pots and pans, dishes, and silverware one could need. A Weber Gas grill and single burner lobster cooker are just outside the cabin for all your favorite grilled meals. The queen bed in the loft is accessed by a spiral staircase. A queen sleeper is also available on the main floor for those that prefer to avoid stairs. Modern conveniences such as quality high speed wifi, a smart tv with your favorite apps, heat and AC blend with aged driftwood accents and birch sapling railings to create a calm, cozy, yet very comfortable place to retreat to while still feeling connected to the world at large on whatever level you choose.

The cabin is near the main house making us easily accessible for all questions about island life, lobstering, off-island adventures (such as Acadia National Park and Bar Harbor), and what it's like to winter in Maine yet still provides all the privacy you would want. Paul loves to offer a free pair of lobsters to all our guests, fresh off his lobster boat in order to fully immerse in the Maine island experience. It's a 10-12 minute walk (or 5 minute bike ride) to the Town Dock where the ferry lands and departs every two hours in the summer- providing easy access to Acadia and its truly infamous Rockefeller carriage roads and trails- but please know we always greet our guests at the dock upon arrival to transport luggage and groceries and provide a warm welcome to the island. On the mainland the Island Explorer FREE bus service departs from the ferry pier regularly to allow all visitors full access to Acadia without the hassle of looking for parking. We do, however, offer a free, designated parking spot on the mainland, adjacent to the ferry pier, for the duration of our guest's stay. The short, very scenic ferry ride amongst the Cranberry Isles on the passenger "mailboat" is considered by many to be one of the more memorable highlights of any visit to our island.

The island is home to a locally-renowned hot spot, The Islesford Dock Restaurant. Also on Islesford are Islesford Pottery, several art galleries, several museums, and a gift shop. A library and post office are just a 5-7 min walk. Further, a summer night ferry (several nights to 6 nights a week depending upon the month) offers easy access to the bustle of Bar Harbor and the carriage roads of Acadia National Park while at the same time allowing the quiet ocean waves to lull you to sleep once you return.

We have met so many wonderful people who have come to relax and explore our little slice of heaven. We really enjoy greeting people who have never experienced Maine (or an island!) and showing off this very special place. The cabin is on our property, about 200 feet from our main home. It used to be a bunkhouse for our teenage kids and we decided to convert to a rustic wooded retreat for friends, family and guests from around the world- truly a labor of love we have never regretted.

Why they chose this property

We are so close to Acadia National Park and Bar Harbor, one of the most sought after summer destinations on the east coast. Guests can easily ride over enjoy the wonders of the Park and return to absolutely blissful quiet and tranquility on the island. This location offers the best of both worlds. Its why we love it so!
