This “aerial lift” of a cabin takes its name from the Sky Ride concession that operated at Palo Duro Canyon State Park in the 1960’s. The original ride’s abutment is sitting next to this cabin reminiscent of the good-old-by-gone-days when station wagons and family vacations were the norm, and state parks were a favorite place to take them. A series of chairlift seats moved excited park visitors from the canyon floor hundreds of feet above to the top of a mesa that can be seen below from this cabin. Now, excited ChairLift cabin guests unwind and enjoy magical moments at dawn and dusk when the golden light plays over the soaring cliffs and rock spires of Palo Duro. One of the best features of the fantastic view from this cabin is the interplay of blue sky, brick-red rock and lime-green vegetation. ChairLift is the perfect Palo Duro Escape for the nostalgic and adventuress traveler.
ChairLift is a two-bedroom, two- full bath, in a very functional and cozy 1,000 sq. ft. design. The cabin features a wood burning fireplace, covered patio and built in Propane grill. The fully equipped kitchen offers everything you need to make you feel at home. Clean linens and towels are provided for your comfort along with extra blankets for cozy nights.

Lovely cabin overlooking Palo Duro Canyon. Our dog loved hanging out on the porch and didn’t want to leave. My husband and I also used the Hokami massage therapy tipi services during out visit
We enjoyed a wonderful weekend at the ChairLift cabin. The property has been thoughtfully curated with the comfort of their guests in mind. Both the photos and the description of the cabin are accurate, and the views are amazing. We look forward to visiting again. Thank you for a great stay.

Thank you for selecting Doves Rest Cabins for your get away! We appreciate your booking.
Everything about this property was perfect! The views were amazing. The cabin was very nice and has everything you will need for your stay. It was also great sitting out at night and gazing a sky full of stars - something we don't see in Dallas!
Excellent all around! Beautiful inside and out. Will definitely be back. Watched sunset, moon rise and sunrise, all from the front porch or side drive.
Reunion with longtime friends in spectacular setting
We loved being by the canyon, the outdoor grill and the comfort of the couches that held us while we talked for hours gazing at the views. Kitchen well equipped, beautifully decorated, and comfortable beds (though a bit of a climb up into them for those of us who are a bit short.)
Superb!!!!
I cannot say enough wonderful things about this property. the view of Palo Duro was breath-taking. We loved sitting out on the patio in the morning and evening and enjoyed the breeze and the view. The house was lovely. Everything was so cute and comfortable. I was a little short of K-cups so I texted the owner and within an hour I had more. The kitchen was well equipped. The beds were very comfy. It was quiet yet not far from the Canyon and town.

The cabin was wonderful! Very clean. Very comfortable! The kitchen was well stocked for preparing all meals. I felt like I was at home. The bottle of champagne in the fridge was an added bonus and kind. We will definitely be back!
We always stop here for a few days in between softball tournaments in Colorado and Dallas to relax and unwind. AMAZING views, wildlife everywhere, stars at night are unreal, and most of all quiet!! We have stayed in two units. The Fortress and Chairlift and both were fantastic. Go see the show one night at the state park!
Overall, fantasy stay. We are used to a few more kitchen items like leftover food containers, glad wrap, etc. Again, location was wonderful and “Chairlift” was just delightful.
We planned our cross country trip around the Dove’s Rest availability! We stayed at Dove’s Rest two years ago for the first time and absolutely loved it! The views of Palo Duro canyon are fantastic and the home is so very comfortably furnished! The hosts are excellent communicators! The home is perfect for families traveling with multiple generations as well as their pups! We saw wild sheep and longhorns. It is an easy drive to town for dinner or a short drive to the mercantile down the road for lunch! We can’t wait for our next trip back!

Why they chose this property
Palo Duro Canyon State Park with its Technicolor walls make for high-desert scenery more commonly seen in southern Utah. It offers more than 30-miles of hiking, mountain-biking and equestrian trails and an additional 1,500 acres set aside for horseback riding. You can bring your own horses so don’t hesitate to ask us about local boarding.
Mountain bikers can experience the best single track in Texas and will enjoy the well maintained five trail heads networking for some 26-miles throughout the canyon ranging from "mild" to "wild" in technical ability - dirt, rocks, river rock, sand, wash-outs, switchbacks, drop-offs and climbs with alternative trail accesses throughout.
During the summer, enjoy a performance of the outdoor musical drama TEXAS. The play, nearing a half-century in its on-going production runs Tuesdays through Sundays, June through August, at the 1,700 seat Pioneer Amphitheater. Watch the stories, struggles and triumphs of early settlers. The family-friendly show has singing, dancing, fireworks and lots of Texas humor.
You'll find ChairLift a place of amazing beauty, quietness and nurturing of soul & spirit. Here is where the Buffalo roamed. It’s Southern & Quahada Comanche (the most powerful & ruthless Indian tribes in American history), Kiowa, and Cheyenne and Arapaho territory. During their time, around 150-years ago, millions of Buffalo made this land their home and Palo Duro Canyon was a retreat for these nomad Indians - hunters of Buffalo. Chief Quanah Parker, the last of the Quahada Comanche warriors, fought the battle of Palo Duro Canyon not more than 20-miles east from Doves Rest in September 1874. It brought an official end to the U.S./Indian wars and the eventual peace that finally allowed settlers to occupy this last remaining freedom-outpost of “uncivilized” land in North America. Now, fun memories and RELAXATION happen here!
What makes this property unique
Off the beaten path and outside of mainstream destinations, we’re far from every other place to stay. We deliver an amazing guest experience that is truly authentic Texan, personal, and character-rich. Doves Rest Cabins is truly a unique base camp from which to explore one of the world’s most transformative spot – Palo Duro Canyon State Park. Doves Rest Cabins is ideal for travelers who believe small is beautiful, and see travel not as something one does, but rather identifies it as part of who one is.
If private and quiet surrounded by nature with friendly wildlife nestled in your own little world only a few minutes away to the second largest canyon in America interests you, then you’re in the right place!
