About this property

Completed in 2019, 3 bedroom, 3 full ensuite bathroom cottage located directly across from Mackerel Cove (voted one of Maine s 10 most beautiful by DownEast). Across from Johnson Field and close to Library Hall which are both prime wedding locations on Bailey Island.
This house has spectacular views of Mackerel Cove and the public beach of Mackerel Cove is just across the street. Mackerel Cove is a working cove, so you can watch the lobster boats come and go and buy your lobsters right off the dock. There is also a public boat launch at Mackerel Cove.

The house is new. It was built to maximize the terrific views with lots of windows and high ceilings. The first floor has a spacious open-plan kitchen, living room, dining room and large front porch. Also on the first floor is a full bathroom and a bedroom with a queen-sized bed.

The second floor has two large bedrooms each with ensuite full bathroom. The front bedroom has a queen-sized bed and looks out to Mackerel Cove over Johnson Field. The back bedroom has two full-sized beds and views of Merriconeag Sound from the windows. Also on the second floor is an outside deck with seating, perfect for taking in the sunset.

The house has all new appliances including washer/dryer, dishwasher, 52" tv. It is tastefully furnished with plenty of spots to entertain, read a book or enjoy the views. The house is fully heated.

There is a very spacious front porch with rockers, chairs and a large table suitable for entertaining or enjoying meals outside.

Also on the property, and rented separately, is the Nugget which is
a one-bedroom cottage with full bathroom and kitchen that has been totally renovated. Perfect for two people, a nanny, the grandparents or honeymooners. It has a queen-sized bed and a washer/dryer of its own.

Rentals are a 2-week minimum.

Great spot on Bailey Island

Very comfortable and clean home that is ideal for relaxing. We spent many hours just sitting on the front porch with family & friends delighting in the Old Maine charm of Mackeral Cove. Warren & Cindy are excellent hosts whose attention to detail made us feel very much at home.

Lobster + ocean view =perfection!

Bailey’s Island is tiny but packed full of the most beautiful scenery in the country. Mountains, lakes, museums, lobster, parks, you name it. And the people were just so considerate it made for one of our best days, and we have traveled all over the world. The host and hostess spend as much time as we need it and had great suggestions for sightseeing and restaurants. And for what it’s worth the Portland airport is such an easy in and out we were pleasantly surprised. Needless to say the weather cooperated which always underscores a perfect getaway.

Wonderful home and even better views

We visit Bailey Island regularly, and this was hands down the best experience we’ve had with a rental. We’re already planning our return next summer! Warren and Cindy were great hosts. They have a beautiful new home with everything we needed, plus the views of Mackerel Cove were perfect. They were so nice to provide recommendations and a basket of local coffee, muffins, and jam. The home was spotless and the layout was perfect for a family. It was peaceful at the end of the season, and we enjoyed walking the island everyday. A little piece of heaven! Thanks for a lovely week!

We have been coming to bailey Island all of our lives and own a summer (only) cottage nearby. We built this house to accomodate some of our many friends and family that visit and are renting it for parts of the summer.

Why they chose this property

Mackerel Cove is as authentic Maine coast as it gets. Enjoying a coffee in the morning while watching the lobster boats head out is something we never get tired of. Plus access to the public beach on Mackerel Cove and a great launch point for boats or kayaks. You may also enjoy the almost weekly weddings that take place in Johnson Field right in front of you and in Library Hall just 200 yards away.

What makes this property unique

We love the old Maine cottages and we kept that image in mind when we built our home. But we like our comforts too and this is a modern cottage with all the modern amenities. It is a walk to the Giant Stairs, town center and the lobster dock where you can buy lobsters just caught that day.

Bailey Island is a jewel on the Maine coast and a reminder of simpler times where doors are left unlocked and kids are free to pack a lunch and wander.
