Mele Moana (Song of the Sea) is a lovingly kept, ample, beachy, retro-Hawaii-style (as accurately depicted in photos) one-bedroom unit. Sunset Kahili #406 offers all the amenities of a clean and comfortable home, fully equipped, including: a full-service kitchen; dishwasher, washer/dryer inside; basic toiletries, unlimited free Wi-Fi in unit; HDTV, DVD, CD and cassette players; music, movies, books, games and puzzles; coolers, beach towels, umbrellas, chairs and mats. Sleeping 4 is easy with a very comfortable king-bed and living room sofa that folds out to a genuinely comfy queen.
Yours is on the fourth floor of a five-story building with an elevator and free dedicated onsite parking space, one of only 35 units that share a sparkling pool, lounge area, BBQ with picnic bench, and recreation room with library of books and puzzles.

What an awesome place and the stay was perfect! Incredible location! What i loved most about this was the ability to head to the beach in a couple minutes, in either direction, and if you're a trail runner or just like to hike you are in a perfect spot. When we first arrived i was worried it was going to be to hot as there's no AC, but at night the breeze left it very nice and listening to the ocean with that breeze, babies don't sleep that good!

We had a beautiful stay. Ellen is a wonderful hostess-so kind and responsive. Location is fantastic! Sunsets at the end of each day were a special treat. Unit is a little dated, which is why I would give this property a 4/5 stars. However, all other aspects of our experience were first rate! Fantastic experience.

Amazing view and location

Great location near POIPU beach and excellent view from unit! Really comfortable even without ac and not necessary to have since there is a cross breeze in unit. Ellen is very quick with communication to answer any questions you may have. Really cool nostalgic feel.

Amazing location and great amenities!

This condo had the perfect Lanai for enjoying coffee in the morning or our wine at night and watching the whales. It’s so close to coffee shops, restaurants and most importantly beaches. The property itself had everything we needed and more. The owner was so gracious and helpful and easy to communicate with. Would definitely stay here again for our next Kauai holiday.

The VRBO description of this property is good. The owner has intentionally not updated the place to the 2000's - It looks similar to how it probably looked when this vintage condo was built. If you want modern, be prepared to pay considerably more somewhere else. If you want wonderful ocean views, sleeping to the sound of waves at night instead of a droning air conditioner, and a perfect location for your Kauai holiday - this is it! The owner is very responsive should there be any problems. She has provided beach chairs, towels, ice chest, pool noodles, etc. - everything you could possibly need. And if you do any cooking or bring home leftovers, there are plenty of utensils and storage containers too.

Marvelous Mele Moana

We had a delightful stay at Mele Moana. The condo is comfortable, clean, and well-equipped. It is in a great location, close to beaches, trails, and restaurants. We enjoyed the fabulous views from our lanai of the daily visits by the whales and the stunning sunsets. Ellen is a wonderful host. Highly recommended - 5 stars!

A perfect stay

We were very pleased with our stay at the lovely and peaceful Mele Moana. The kitchen had everything you could want to prepare meals and we especially appreciated the availability of beach towels, chairs and umbrellas. The location is within walking distance of the beautiful Poipu Beach where we saw sea turtles and seals. We would defiantly stay there again.

Well located, easy access, on-site parking (but very narrow parking spaces, best for smaller cars). Nicely decorated, very clean. Many beach accessories available in condo - nice not to have to buy for temporary use.

If you want to wake up for an amazing ocean view every morning, rent this property! It is clean, comfortable, has all the necessities, the location cannot be beat. The owner is quick tk respond. We spent lovely few days there and would like to go back again next year.

Hear the ocean waves 24/7

As advertised: gorgeous views, quiet complex, great pool, and quaint condo. I agree with a previous renter that some basic maintenance is in order. And I would also suggest more linens, both kitchen and bathroom: not enough there if a week or more stay. The price is hard to beat and we had a fabulous time. Would definitely stay again. We loved that we saw turtles from the lanai. I used to live Kauai and brought my granddaughter for college grad gift. Went up to Koke and Kalalau lookout, kauai cookie factory, HoloHolo Sunset tour for a marvelous view of Nepali coastline hula pie at Keoki’s twice🍰 Great pizza place in Koloa town Thanks for the great accommodations, in a walkable area. 25th Wedding Anniversary

Great view of the water. Ate many meals on the lanai. Watched whales from the lanai. Short walk to the beach with some good snorkeling. Walks along the shore past the Grand Hyatt Hotel and along the cliffs out to the cave reserve and beyond. A central location to visit all parts of the island from. When we go back to Kauai we will surely look to stay here again. Everything the two of us neede to make this a perfect anniversary 11 day holiday.

Excellent Ocean view!

I'll never forget the moment we arrived right at sunset. Opening the door and seeing the pinks and oranges in the sky right in front of you out of the balcony door over looking the sea. It was beautiful to wake up to the sound of the ocean every morning and drink my coffee on balcony. My partner and I had a great time enjoying the place and south side of Kauai. Our host was helpful in getting us checked in quickly and providing directions.

Perfect spot in the best side of the island

This was a great spot to stay. Plenty of space for two people. Beaches within walking distance and grocery within a 5 minute drive. Our favorite part was the balcony. We spent every morning drinking our coffee and eating our breakfast on the balcony. Beautiful view!!!! The photos do not do it justice. No complaints. Great communication, very clean, parking spot included, and no loud neighbors. South Kauai is the best place to stay.

Great location!

We enjoyed our stay! This rental has a great ocean view and is conveniently within walking distance to both Poipu and Brennecke Beach. We saw turtles, monk seals, and fish at Poipu, which is a very calm beach and great for snorkeling (note that the ocean floor is very rocky here). Brennecke is a sand bottom beach with high surf and was great for body-boarding. The only negative (which we were warned about by the host) was that we had trouble getting into the driveway without scraping the underside of our rental car. Even so, the scrapping was pretty negligible and went unnoticed when we returned the rental car, but just something to note.

I grew up in (and my mainland home is still in) Southern California. It brings me joy to be able to share my Kauai home with guests from all over the world!

Why they chose this property

I first traveled to--and fell in love with--Hawaii in 1972. I stayed at Sunset Kahili on honeymoon and, as soon as it became possible, bought this perfect fourth floor unit for a home away from home in Kauai--my favorite place on earth!

What makes this property unique

My Mele Moana has the best location in the Sunset Kahili building (of course personal bias but I think true for a number of reasons!) and offers a complete and comfortable beach home ambiance. This is my Kauai home and home away from home for my returning guests. Please enjoy!
