Location is perfect for serving as a home base for exploring Crete. The villa has awesome water and mountain views and is located near a quiet village (which has a 12th century church per my husband). We enjoyed the fig tree in the backyard, the neighborhood cat, being able to drive up the mountain a little way to see the goats (and hear their bells), and the pool. Chania is a short drive away as are beaches, good restaurants and cafes.

The villa had everything we needed and was very clean. The location was perfect for a peaceful and relaxing stay. Many good restaurants and beaches easily accessible from the villa. Would definitely recommend and wouldn’t hesitate to go back.

A rather perfect stay in rural Crete

This is a splendid, spacious house in rural Crete. Situated over small authentic greek villages, one has views to the White Mountains and the coast line among others. Includes “all mod cons”. The proprietors and the manager were very helpful in stressed situations, indeed, and with advice, in general. We give our very best recommendations. The Danish Gang of Seven

Our stay at Villa Petra was unforgettable. The villa offers a breathtaking panoramic view over the hills of western Crete, stretching all the way to the sea. We especially loved watching the cruise ships passing by in the distance while relaxing on the terrace or in the pool.The house itself is well-equipped and thoughtfully designed. Each room has air conditioning, which made our stay very comfortable, and the villa lacked nothing. With three bedrooms, three bathrooms, and a beautifully furnished open-plan living room and kitchen, there was plenty of space for everyone.Although the interiors are cozy and inviting, we spent most of our time outside. The terrace and pool area are perfect to relax, and in the evenings we sometimes went up to the rooftop terrace to admire the stars - in the rural darkness you can see so many of them!The location is ideal for exploring western Crete. Rethymno, Chania, and several beaches are within easy reach, and there are charming local tavernas nearby. For excursions, we highly recommend visiting the impressive archaeological site of Ancient Aptera with its amphitheater and cisterns, as well as the atmospheric cave church of Agia Sofia.If we ever travel to Crete again, we would definitely return to Villa Petra. It is a truly unique and special place that made our holiday perfect.Thanks a lot, Christine!

Amazing view, excellent location

If you are looking for the perfect spot to relax, look no further! We spent 10 days at this excellent location. The villa is well kept, clean, and in general just really nice! The view is excellent, from both inside the house and the terraces, the pool is great, and the bbq and outdoor kitchen great for cooking your own food spending long relaxed evenings at the terrace. Location is remote, you do need a car, but the view and the sound of cicada and the flock of goats that passes on a daily basis is the perfect setting for winding down and relaxing. Feels like original Crete, yet both Chania, the Northern coast and Rethymno within easy access. John and Christine are very attentive hosts, providing a welcome pack for the first breakfast, and are quick to answer any question or concern you may have. Would recommend and would like to come back.

Beautiful views

Nice villa with stunning panoramic views over the coastline. Easy check-in process with good information provided by the host. Well furnished villa with 3 ample sized rooms for 5 of us, comfy sitting room and a good balcony. Pool reasonable size. 5mins from a small village, Stilos, worth visiting on Sunday for a meat feast. 15min from Kalyves. Sufficient outdoor shade to hide from the sun also. A few minor issues: internet issues for the first 3 days despite speaking to both the property manager and owner (direct communication with the owner most efficient), external lights didnt seem to work (wasnt great when we arrived at 2am), a number of plastic signs everywhere and there is a villa right next door (who were doing some renovations whilst we were there). All in all a very nice villa just missing that extra polish.

Superb views and very comfortable

Villa Petra was everything we hoped it would be and more: very comfortable and well appointed, well located for exploring the countryside of western Crete and - best of all - the dramatic views of the sea, countryside, villages, and mountains. Many relaxing hours were spent reading or lazing in the pool with that gorgeous view spread out in front of us. A wonderful antidote for the stresses of modern living, without sacrificing holiday comforts. The kids loved the pool and the wood or charcoal burning bbq was great. We loved the location - away from the noise and hubbub of the towns and other tourists. It is a short drive to Stylos to pick up provisions or eat at one of the tavernas. We also appreciated the thoughtful welcome pack of milk, juice, jam, butter and wine. 2 minor quibbles which can be easily fixed: the single bed mattresses downstairs were not comfortable (springs were prominent) and we struggled to make the wi-fi work, despite the instructions (difficult to top up the balance using the Cosmote page). 2 suggestions for an even better experience: we found ourselves wishing for electric fans to provide an alternative to aircon for personal cooling (especially when sleeping - the aircon is noisy and has a drying effect (and uses a lot of electricity and is expensive to run, although that cost is not paid by the guest)) and we would have liked some fuel and lighting fluid for the bbq so we didn’t have to duck back to town to pick up charcoal on the first night. But those comments do not lessen our overall endorsement of Villa Petra.

Beautiful large villa with stunning views

Such a gorgeous villa in a beautifully quiet and very Greek part of Crete. Up in the mountains this villa has panoramic views but still feels private. Great for a couple or friends and family. The villa has everything you need and is just a short drive away from a number of traditional villages away from other tourists.. but, still not far from beaches and Chania if you're feeling a bit isolated. The hosts (John) was especially attentive and provided us with eveything we needed, including a welcome pack of water, wine, bread, milk etc. Thank you for such a wonderful stay... we needed to get away from it all, Villa Petra certainly did that for us! Highly recommended.

Very comfortable house With Amazing view

We rented this house In the strange Corona times and we really recommend it!!! The house is situated a Little out of the village so very calm and peaceful but also very Good situated for excursions (Aptera, Chania, Rethymnon,...) There are several Sandy beaches near by. The house is very comfortable with a very Nice swimming pool (amazing view while swimming) and great BBQ in the outdoor kitchen. Everything was very Clean and well maintained. Corona instructions were strictly followed, the house was sanitised before we arrived. The owners are very very helpful. They gave us a lot of Useful recommandations for visits and activities and they are always available if you have questions. We had a great time here with our 2 teenage-sons! We can only recommend this beautiful place in the very nice island of Crete!

Lovely rural villa

We stayed at Villa Petra for a week in late October. It's well looked after and has beautiful views of the coast and the mountains. It's a 15 minute drive from the nearest costal town which has lots of good restaurants. The upstairs bedrooms have share a balcony which is a great place to watch the sunrise. We really enjoyed our week there and would definitely stay again!

Perfect holiday location

This was the perfect holiday location for us - a beautiful villa on the top of the hill with stunning views. Quiet and peaceful but also not far from some charming traditional Greek villages with their Tavernas and a short drive to the nearest beach in Kalyves. The villa is perfectly located to explore many of the tourist hotspots in western Crete. The house is well equipped - we did not miss anything during our stay with our three kids, even some toys and a small boat for the pool were waiting near the poolside. Christine and John are caring very well for their guests, providing lots of useful information before the trip as well as in a folder in the house. We felt very welcome and truly enjoyed our holiday.

Peaceful Villa with Beautiful Views

Really hard to fault this wonderful villa. It is right on top of the mountain giving beautiful views as well as a sense of seclusion. It is has ample grounds yet still gives cosy feel. We stayed as two couples with a baby each and found everything clean, well ordered and very well equipped for self catering. Having to take the rubbish / recycling down the mountain each day can be problematic but it seems to be the way it’s done in Crete. We would happily stay again and have already recommended it to others.

Fantastic holiday!

My husband & I, together with our two teenage sons, had the most wonderful time here at Villa Petra! Due to our flight being delayed, we didn't arrive until nearly 3am, but the directions were so clear we managed to follow them even in the dark! The villa is comfortable and homely, and we settled into our holiday immediately. Whether we were relaxing by the pool, enjoying the beaches - Kalives, Kalami & Yorgiopolis, exploring the Akrotiri peninsular, finding ancient churches and Minoan ruins or going head-first down slides at the water park, we simply had a really great time. We had some wonderful food too - Chania, Douliana, Vamos, Kalives & Armenoi all came up trumps! We very much hope to be back to explore some more of this beautiful part of Crete.

Absolutely wonderful

This villa on top of the hill with views of the sea was like Heaven on Earth. A dip in the pool every night after a day of sightseeing was both refreshing and relaxing. The villa was well appointed and the location perfect with short drives to all of our destinations. Thank you so much for making this home available to us. I would highly recommend a stay here!

Fabulous villa in a truelly great location

Just back from two weeks at Villa Petra 11.08.18 - 25.08.18 and the accommodation was wonderful and if planning a trip back to Crete I would defiantly book this location again . Do not let the previous reviews regarding the road up to the villa put you off as the surface has been upgraded and now has a concreate base, which Christine reassured us was going to be done before we arrived. At the first attempt it is a bit daunting but once you have reached the Villa it is well worth the trip up and you could never get tired of the views across the valley and into Suda Bay. The accommodation was very comfortable with quality beds which gave our party a very relaxing nights sleep . It was also wonderful to sit on the balcony in the morning with a fresh cup of coffee and in the evening with something a little stronger and again take in the amazing views and the star filled sky at night .The accommodation has all the facilities you could need and a very clean infinity pool which tops up by itself each day. We also took John up on the car hire and the whole experience was seamless from picking up at Chania airport and dropping off again. Thanks again the Webster family

We had a brilliant, totally relaxing week in the 2nd week of October. Very comfortable villa that had everything we needed. Great location with both sea and mountain views close to Kalives and Chania. Loved the area and will be back.

Why they chose this property

I fell in love with Crete the first time I visited, and that sparked our desire to buy a property here. Being Italian and French myself, Crete reminded me of both the Côte d’Azur and Tuscany—before these regions were affected by overbuilding and mass tourism. Western Crete remains the most traditional part of the island, offering authentic landscapes, culture, and hospitality.

We are conveniently located within easy reach of the beautiful Venetian town of Chania and the historic city of Rethymno, with its Turkish legacy. The nearest beaches are only a 10-minute drive away. Our personal favourite, for its tranquility and lovely golden sand, is on the western side of Kalyves. When we prefer a busier atmosphere with commercial bars and tavernas, we head to the central beaches of Kalyves.

Our local village, Stylos, is a must-visit for anyone wanting to experience traditional Cretan life.

What makes this property unique

We named our villa Petra, as it is beautifully stone-built. Unlike Plaka, Almerida, or Kokkinorio, this exclusive hill-top location is home to only four properties, including ours, each set generously apart on plots ranging from 1,500 to 4,000 m².

From the villa, you enjoy an uninterrupted view straight out to the bay of Souda. Between November and often until the end of April, the mountains behind the property are capped with stunning white snow. Imagine sunbathing on one of the loungers by the pool at Easter, and in a single glance, taking in both the snow-capped mountains behind you and the deep blue waters of Souda Bay in front—simply breathtaking!

We absolutely love this location. It is idyllic and exclusive, set in unspoiled countryside, offering privacy, tranquility, and spectacular scenery.
