A stylish, warm and welcoming retreat to come back to after days out. Lovely bathrooms, and long views across the loch. Well located to reach most of the ‘must-sees’ on Skye. Very dog-friendly.

The Backrest is a great base for anyone wanting to spend some time on Skye. We spent most of our time just chilling there and enjoying the local area. Mette is an excellent host. The property is first rate. I’d recommend the Backrest to anyone wanting high quality accommodation on the Isle of Skye.

The Backrest was a perfect location for our holiday. The views were beautiful. I was travelling with my elderly mother who loved sitting by the big windows: she could see so much without even leaving the house. The wildflowers and grasses in the garden were lovely and attracted a lot of birds, so it's great if you enjoy bird watching. The house is well equipped with high quality appliances in the kitchen. The beds were comfortable with good bed linen. We would definitely return.

The Backrest is an incredible property in the most awe inspiring location. This place enabled us to have one of our best ever holidays with our dog Barney. The house has everything you need and allows to you fully relax fully in its beautiful surroundings. Can't recommend enough. We'll be back.

This is supposed to be a "high end" property, yet the overall experience doesnt match that description. First, the positives. Lovely view, spacious, ample parking, pretty much all the kitchen equipment needed. Clean, nice big bath. Plenty of hot water, plenty of info. However, the whole experience doesnt really make it feel like a home from home. No welcome pack, not even a pint of milk. We were promised a match ready fire in the wood burner, there wasnt. Not even anything for us to build a fire on arrival. The most off putting thing, that made us feel like we were on egg shells, was all the do and dont labels. "Please dont over fill the kettle" yeah we have used kettles before. Even in the ice bucket in the bathroom advising to use the coasters. In a cupboard downstairs "please dont use the tools" so I used my own to tighten the hinges on the bathroom door frame as it was catching, 30 second job, A piece of MDF under the cushions of a sofa, really doesnt yell "high end". We were there for our wedding, so would take a lot to detract from the overall experience, but having been to the beautiful Isle of Skye on many occasions over the years, we have stayed in a lot better and more welcoming for less.

Many congratulations on your marriage. We’re delighted that the Skye weather played out but as arranged would have happily allowed your service to take place at The Backrest. We appreciate your feedback. Our, and our housekeepers lives would be significantly easier if every guest was as experienced in rentals and as considerate as you clearly are. Unfortunately our past experience of guests needlessly damaging things has necessitated that we need to include asks of “do’s and dont’s”. It‘s unfortunate but neccessary particularly as in the current economic climate, people are reluctant to give us visibility in favour of collecting their full damage deposit. Accidents for sure happen and we’re relaxed about occasional breakages. We don‘t advertise any welcome pack and have never provided one. The details we provide give advice on where to stock up on groceries en-route. The lack of the woodstove being ready was a pure oversight in the changeover - our apologies. All of our furniture has been carefully chosen and is maintained to ensure it is backfriendly and lives up to the housename of “The Backrest”. As for maintenance issues, we ask guests to get in touch with us so that we can solve by return. This is not something we ask or expect guests to do. No matter how small the job, these things can potentially impact our insurance. Our warmest congratulations once again on your Skye wedding.

We had a wonderful week at the Backrest. The house is beautifully located and the views from the living room and from the deck at the front are fantastic. We found everything really clean, and very comfortable, with all the items needed to make us feel 'at home'. We were lucky to be there on really lovely sunny days, but I think it would be great also in colder times and promises to be a very cosy place. Mette was very helpful and responsive when we had any questions ahead of arriving, and all the information we got was accurate. We would definitely look to stay again at the Backrest. We travelled with our cat, who seemed to be very content and quickly found all the right places to settle down for long sleeps, allowing us to get out and about. We really appreciated being able to bring him along!

Beautiful property and tranquil location

We had a wonderful week at the Backrest in early May. The property has all the creature comforts you might need on your stay. The property is very cosy and warm and in a quiet location over looking the loch.

Wonderful vacation

We loved our trip to the Isle of Skye and staying at the Backrest was one of the reasons. The views were amazing and it was easy to get to places. We would definitely recommend staying there and hope to go back some day.
