About this property

A Restored Wagon Barn On A 1790's Farm.

The Cottage is a completely renovated 19th century post and beam wagon barn boasting a wonderful open floor plan with wood and stone tile floors throughout. The main floor has a fully equipped kitchen for guests, a bathroom with shower, and a spacious sitting area with WIFI and a large flat screen smart TV. The large loft bedroom features a queen size bed. Up to two additional guests from the same booking party can be accommodated on a very comfortable queen sleeper sofa in the main living area (no children under 10 years old). In all there are over 1,000 square feet of pure privacy.
Guests will be treated to spectacular western views of the Blue Ridge Mountains, particularly at sunset. Open a window and fall asleep to the sounds of cattle grazing or the call of spring peepers. Enjoy the unfiltered night sky filled with stars and lightning bugs. Take in the wetland that runs through our property providing additional treats from Mother Nature including bald eagles, great herons, hawks, Canadian geese, and red foxes (after all, this is Virginia hunt country). Sit at the fire pit patio (an old silo slab) and enjoy an outdoor meal or glass of wine.
Daily continental breakfast of organic fresh fruit, yogurt, and pastry. Organic orange juice, milk, half and half, cereal, coffee and tea are stocked in the kitchen. We source most of our goods from local farms and vendors. Guests are welcome to bring additional items to cook.
Dunthorpe Farm is more that just a cottage B & B. It is the restored 1790's farm of Kelly and Philip Foltman, and includes Dr. Foltman's veterinary practice and several personal horses. They also share their home with two cats and two dogs which guests are asked to enjoy en lieu of bringing their own pets. The cottage is not suitable for children under 10 years of age.
Inquire about discounts when booking 7 or more nights. No hidden cleaning fees.

Host profile image

Kelly and Phil love northern Virginia and enjoy sharing all that the area has to offer to guests. While not working at their day jobs they enjoy riding their horses and working to restore and maintain the farm.

Why they chose this property

The farm sits on 48 acres of land in conservation easement and across from another 100 acre parcel in easement. No additional development can occur on either property. People who stay at our cottage marvel at the rural landscape.

We have consistently received 5 stars as hosts.
While we do live on the property in the main house, we engage as much or as little as our guests prefer, but are always available for questions or to help make your stay enjoyable.
When you book at The Cottage, you are our only guests. The entire cottage is for you and your guest to enjoy alone. Relax on the patio or cozy up to the fire pit. Feel free to walk the fields and gravel roads.
