Three days in Winchcombe

We have just spent three days visiting Winchcombe. We booked the Sudeley estate cottage Queens Cottage which is a lovely Cotswolds stone building tastefully renovated and furnished. It is close to both Winchcombe town and Sudeley Castle. The town has great pubs with excellent dining. All in all an enjoyable time away.

Lovely short break in delightful Queen's Cottage

Beautiful cottage with very spacious living/dining space and kitchen. Well equipped with everything we needed, although only fridge with freezer compartment not separate freezer. Two large bedrooms and two spacious bathrooms. Wonderful location with small terrace looking over the "village street" scene of other attractive cottages. Added bonus being able to walk from the cottage to Sudeley Castle and gardens. Just a short walk up to Winchcombe to enjoy a meal at the local pubs. Lots of places to visit nearby and we would love to visit again. Definitely recommend Queen's Cottage.

Unique accommodation in the Cotswolds!

We were a group of two couples that stayed in the Queens Cottage while traveling through the Cotswolds in September. The location of this cottage was ideal for visiting Sudeley Castle and meeting up with friends who were staying in nearby Broadway. The cottage itself was quite comfortable for a group of (4) adults, but you should know that there is only one shower located upstairs where the bedrooms are. The second bathroom is located downstairs (next to the kitche) and has a bathtub...not a shower. We were prepared for this arrangement...but it might be a surprise to some guests. The kitchen is very well appointed with everything you need for a short stay...there were even some biscuits and milk (in the fridge) to have with our afternoon tea! Having been on the road for a week, we much appreciate the washer/dryer unit as well, but there was evidence of past water damage (on the wall next to the machine) that needs repairing. The village atmosphere of the surrounding buildings was lovely and peaceful, and there is ample parking available, too. Would definitely recommend this to anyone who is looking for unique accommodations in the Cotswolds at a reasonable price.

Perfect for Sudely Castle

The house was in a great location and all the items you need for a comfortable stay were provided. It was warm with enough space to feel relaxed and not on top of each other. Very clean and the kitchen well presented with all you need for your stay.

Thoroughly enjoyed our time in Queen’s Cottage. Location was ideal - short walk to both village and castle. Cottage very comfortable with everything that we needed.

Wonderful

Fantastic cottage in a fantastic location, we loved our stay. The only improvement we would suggest would be the temperature of the shower which occasionally would turn very cold and then become warm again after a minute

Better than home from home!

We used Queen Cottage as a base to attend a wedding and WOW it helped to make a special occasion even more memorable. It accommodated 6 of us so distant family could join us and enjoy the event too. It is in a secluded court but fairly close to Winchcombe with its lovely food places. You enter a very large lounge/kitchen which is amazingly so well equipped with supplies for all of us. Two upstairs bedrooms with very comfortable beds and the bed/settee in the lounge gave everyone a good night's sleep. The car park is 25 yards away through a beautiful arched driveway. We are so glad that this was recommended to us and it is part of a wonderful weekend

Great family cottage

Overall a great place for families to stay. Well located and have all the amenities including for babies. We stayed here with our parents and kids and everyone was quite comfortable. Just one suggestion - the downstairs bath can have a shower curtain so that it can be used without making much mess.

The Queen's Cottage was perfect for our visit to Sudeley Castle and Winchcombe. It was spacious, clean and just as described. Entry into the castle was free with our stay which was an extra bonus. Not a lot of dining options in town.

Really Lovely Place for Four

We loved this property. Open plan and very comfortable. The bathrooms were great. We were walking the Cotswold Way and this was very conveniently placed. Great pubs and restaurants just up the road. Extremely efficient and quick booking which was great as we were let down for another cottage.

We had a fantastic stay!! All amenities were as stated. Kitchen was homely, shower spacious and bedrooms very comfortable. The cottage grounds were very peaceful and easy to access. Sudeley Castle Cottages in May

Good location. Cottage well equipped. Nice to be able to visit Sudeley Castle. Parking was a problem when we arrived on Friday afternoon as people had not parked well so marked bays might be a good idea and provide fairness, also perhaps limiting the number of vehicles per cottage. A nice high backed armchair would be nice for those not able to get down to the low sofas!

Lovely area but ....

Absolutely beautiful area and the complex of cottages was so peaceful. We had two visits to Sudeley Castle which was complimentary with our stay in the cottage. A lovely round walk from cottage on the edge of grounds and down the castle drive back into town would highly recommend especially in the evening. Plenty of parking spaces. However there are some negatives: The TV was advertised as 'smart' with own account use of Netflix, Amazon and Disney. It was just a normal tv. Where washing machine was fitted, the wall and plaster was all broken away and damaged. Windows, especially in bedroom, need maintenance. Paint all coming away and sills were very dirty. I had to clean them. Could not use frying pan on induction hob. Tried to call office but as weekend, no one answered and this was hardly an emergency. Shower does not drain away quick enough and fills up. Railing on patio area loose. Brickwork around step/slope also loose and falling away. Could be trip hazard. Unable to use patio as wasps/honey bees nest under broken tile on next cottage. The cottage is very tired and could do with brightening up. Cleanliness could be improved too. Cobwebs, dead insects, some skirting boards with dust and hair on them. Tried to put heating on, on last night as got chilly. Despite following instructions we were unable to put it on. It is a shame that these things had to mar our stay as it could have been perfect.

Family trip

My daughter moved to winchcombe last year we wanted a family holiday near her with wheelchair access. This cottage was ideal for location, full of character it had everything we needed. It had a downstairs bathroom, which worked but not entirely as it was a bath not a shower so mum couldn’t access it fully. There’s plenty of disabled parking in town so the hill was not a problem. The staff were extremely friendly and sorted out our queries immediately. We loved our visit to Sudeley castle and gardens which is included in the stay. We would definitely stay here again very good value for money.

Thank you for taking the time to leave a review of your recent stay at Queens Cottage. We are very glad to hear that you enjoyed your stay, however disappointed to read the points that you have raised regarding the downstairs bathroom. On the property listing on our website in our full description this bathroom has a bathtub and hand-held shower. Also there is a 3D tour of the property available.

Queens Cottage - Poor Condition

This property is in a very poor condition and is in need of a well overdue refurbishment both inside and out, The outside patio has loose flags/wall and care should be taken when approaching the property. Other properties in the courtyard offer much better value and should be preferred when booking.

Thank you for taking the time to leave a review of your recent stay at Queens Cottage. We are very disappointed to read your feedback and we have spoken to the property manager regarding this. The Sudeley Cottages are currently undergoing redecoration as part of a bigger project and they have informed us that the patio is being fixed.

Sudeley

The cottage is in a great location for visiting Sudeley and the Cotswolds, a good layout, a good size and has the amenities needed. However, it needs a thorough clean and refresh. Scruffy in areas, upstairs shower mouldy, rusty and full of scale, the kitchen sink was not clean, the fridge had food debris in it, the cutlery draw full of crumbs. Behind the beds was a big built up of spiders webs, dust and hair. The sofa’s need cleaning. We were disappointed by the cleanliness and spent the first couple of hours cleaning but many of the issues we could not rectify, certainly not what you want to do on arriving on holiday.
