For those desiring a true Caribbean getaway vacation with easy access to the beach and exceptional privacy Smugglers Lookout should be on your short list. The villa is roomy yet intimate, has 180 degree panoramic ocean vistas but is only a few minute stroll to the beach, is luxurious for adults yet offers some of the best amenities (like our turtle pen) for children.
Surrounded by acres of privately held land and abutting what is slated to become Belmont National Park, Smugglers Lookout provides privacy and serenity where guests enjoy spectacular and uninterrupted panoramic sea views in a quiet surrounding where often no man-made noises can be heard.
Families with children will love our “Turtle Pen” featuring our 3 red footed tortoises named Albert, Scratcher, and Tortilla and now their off spring (2 babies)
When not at the villa to find some of the BVI’s finest recreational activities and dining you won’t have to go far. The villa is situated directly across from what is slated to become Belmont National Park, is a short walk to Smugglers Cove, about ½ mile to Long Bay (great for boogie boarding and long beach walks), and about 1 mile to Cappoons Bay (Apple Bay) one of the area’s premier surf locales. Some of the finest restaurants are also among these areas with Sopers Hole just over the hill featuring a marina, shopping, and more dining.
Your villa also includes use of our “toys” including kayaks, paddle board, surfboards, and others that may not only save you a lot of money, but add to your vacation by having immediate and unlimited use of these benefits. Remember, this is also our home so we have a number of items available for use that are not listed that may not be found in a traditional rental. Make sure to call or email and we can address any specific vacation goals you might have.
This is not a high volume rental property and we are looking for families wishing to experience this magical area of the BVI who will look out after our place. No party'ers please.
Our prices include all fees. No hidden fees.

It was a wonderful place for our family. We loved being able to walk to 2 different beaches. The hosts were wonderful and the house was a highlight of our trip. Great views and every room was great. It is great when the reality is even better than the pictures. Thank you!
Our family had a wonderful time! The house is a little remote, but so worth it! Sitting above the Cove feeling like we were in the jungle was so amazing!
This house is a treasure! I have never stayed in a home that felt so special. There is so much more that is not in the description- and it’s all good. The view is exactly as pictured. But if you picture the view and close your eyes imagine you are on the huge wrap around porch sitting in a chair feeling the breeze on your face and hearing the sound of the waves- because that is part of that view. Perfectly clean. Plenty of space. Beautiful grounds that are clearly loved. 10/10 want to do it again everyday!
This property was perfect for our family vacation . The location was also great . We felt very safe the whole time . Loved smugglers cove beach which was just a short walk from the villa . Close to restaurants and anything else we wanted to do . I would highly recommend this villa to anyone coming to Tortolla.
Incredible location, minutes walk from the beach. Property was lovely, listening to the ocean breeze each evening, the wrap around porch to spend our meals. Multiple reefs, crystal clear water and excellent fresh food in your private feeling private beach. Easy communication with Marlyn the property manager. Incredible trip, couldn’t recommend higher.

We had a really nice stay overall and the house worked well for our group, but there are a few things worth noting for future guests. The house itself is spacious, however, it could use some updates when it comes to linens, beach towels, & pillows. One thing we didn’t anticipate was the lack of indoor gathering space. We love playing board games and cards, and with 9 people in our group, it was tough not having an indoor dining table or enough seating in living room to all hang out together. The outdoor space is great, but it was often too windy at night to play cards outside.Being close to Smuggler’s Cove was convenient, but if you have kids who love to swim, just know it’s very rocky. Our kids kept getting hit in the legs and feet by rocks in the water and ended up not enjoying it much. On the flip side, Long Bay Beach was absolutely beautiful, calm, and not crowded at all. That ended up being one of our favorite spots on the island. Our kids loved the pet turtles at the house, which was such a fun and unique touch. We also met the neighbor when we arrived, he was an older man & very nice. He did warn us (in front of our kids) about Nigel’s Beach Bar at Smuggler’s Cove, saying the owner can be nice but is also known for pulling a machete on people, which definitely freaked our kids out a bit!Overall, we had a great trip.
Loved the house with amazing views. It is indeed a 4-5 minute walk to Smugglers Cove. Beach was enjoyed by all ages. The turtles were a huge hit with the under 10 crowd.
This is a very special place. We were surprised how close it is to spectacular smugglers beach which is one of the nicest beaches on Tortola. We walked down each day and enjoyed swimming snorkeling paddle boarding and kayaking. Great little rustic beach bars and restaurants. The villa has everything you need for a group or large family vacation. The road in is a bit rustic but once you have done it once you realize it works to keep the crowds away from this little bit of paradise
This is a beautiful home, well appointed and cared for. The covered verandah was a perfect setting, as was the dining area. Marilyn was responsive to all questions. We all very much enjoyed our week here.
We had a marvelous time at Smuggler’s Lookout. I am convinced there is no better location on the islands. Smuggler’s Cove is the best beach on Tortola: perfect sand, snorkeling, few people…and a couple of ramshackle bars cooking jerk chicken! The house is about as close as you can get to the beach.
The house is wonderful and Marilyn takes such good care of it. Our family will cherish the experience and memories from this vacation. We loved the history packet on the house. That part makes things all the more special.
We had a great 3 nights stay at Smuggler’s Lookout! Dave was an attentive host and answered all our questions. Marilyn the house manager met us upon arrival and was always available with any question . We fed the cat and the turtles with any vegetable scraps we had. That was if the chickens didn’t get to it first!! The house has every amenity and the decor was perfect. The house is so close to the beach. The view is amazing! Just perfect! Thank you for sharing it with us.
What a special, private oasis nestled minutes away from one of the most spectacular beaches in all of the BVI's! We've been blessed to come to Tortola for over 30 years and my mom chose our "home away from home" for her 75th birthday. 10 of us gathered, (most for 10 days, some 7) and this home easily housed us all with plenty of gathering areas for games, puzzles, reading, eating, and most of all LAUGHING! Our favorite restaurants are all close by, so we cooked in the VERY well appointed kitchen 3 nights and then enjoyed our favorite spots all other evenings. Marilynn was available to us at all times should a need arise, as were the owners via email. We absolutely look forward to our next stay at this amazing Hideout!! Thank you for allowing us to share in your special home...we are grateful, and our hearts are full!
A really well equipped house with a great living space just what we needed to meet up with old friends and spend time together short walk to our favorite beach
We had a really good time in Tortola. The villa was great! It was close to the beach, yet secluded and peaceful. The views of Smuggler's bay were beautiful. We had coffee on the balcony each day.
Check in was easy and the Villa was clean and tidy. Marilyn (the property manager) even had fresh flowers in each of the bedrooms.
Dave, our host was attentive and always ready to help with any questions we had. Thanks Dave!
This was a family vacation for us. The age range of our group spanned from 5 mos to 92 years. And everyone had an amazing time.
We met a lot of nice people; learned to paddle board; our 4 year old grandson learned how to snorkel and ordered broccoli everyday at Patricia's bar. My 92 year old mother swam in the ocean with some help and a lot of coaxing from my boys. She said that she never thought that she would be able to swim in the ocean again. Well, she went swimming everyday, did some snorkeling, and the folks at the beach bar gave her a noodle to use. If little Conrad (5 mos) could talk, I'm sure he would say thank you for the legos and little cars that he played with. My oldest son and his wife did have to work the first 3 days (Chris had a grant due for his lab) but were able to relax for the rest of the vacation. (The internet worked really well). My youngest son took his 4 year old nephew on a nature walk to the rocks on the point and stayed on the beach every evening just to watch the sun set.
We all agreed that this was one of out best vacations ever.
This home is perfectly located near a beautiful beach, Smugglers Cove, with just a 3 min walk from the house. It was safe and the accommodations for children ( ages 3-13) were great. There were plenty of beds and space for families. We highly recommend this home, if you are looking for cleanliness, safety and close proximity to beach.
What a find this house was for our group of 8. The house has an amazing view of Smugglers Cove! There is plenty of patio space for outdoor dining and gathering! The house is located a bit of a drive from the airport however if you follow the instructions given by the host you can get there with very little trouble, you won't find the house on google maps or apple maps so make sure you have the driving instructions provided. In the area, there is a beautiful beach walking distance from the house. There is also a small beach bar there with some limited food, but there are a few great restaurants (Sebastian's and others) about a mile or so drive. If you are driving you may want to consider a Small SUV or Jeep as some of the roads are a bit rough on the way in. The house was just as pictured in the ad and we didn't have any surprises. The host was very responsive and accommodating with the few requests we had. He went above and beyond our expectations.
Pros: Spacious, beautiful panoramic view, clean, comfortable, very close to the beach, some nice restaurants close., sizable kitchen, outside patio dining room, balcony of most bedrooms, pet turtles, responsive host, and did I mention the view :)
Cons: the downstairs suite is only accessible from the outside so your guests staying downstairs have to go outside and down a few steps to get to their room (not a big deal)
the roads are a bit rough on the way there, a bit of a drive from Road Town if you plan on spending much time there.
This is a great house to go to if you want to unplug and relax. There isn't a lot going on in the immediate vicinity of the house so plan on making your our fun. It was exactly what we needed before going on a 7-day sailboat trip.
We would like to thank David and his family for opening their home for us. Marylin, the property manager was in touch with us well in advance of our arrival to set the sleeping arrangements. Upon our arrival she met us at the villa and gave us the tour. David sent us a welcome packet with clear and detailed instructions. We stayed for 3 nights since our charter was mid-week. The location was perfect--close to the beach and absolutely breathtaking views. Well appointed house with many niceties, well stocked kitchen with high end stove.
This was an amazing start to our family and friends vacation.
Thank you! We would love to stay at your villa again.
We cannot say enough about the house and it’s location. The owner was amazingly helpful in navigating the new Covid world. The house was clean and Marilyn the house manager was super helpful. She arranged a cook for our stay which only added to it. The house is a short walk to Smugglers Cove which is a beautiful beach. I ran almost every day on the roads and felt safe the whole time. The house came stocked with a paddle board, life jacket, games, snorkeling gear and a kayak. And we used it all. We were a party of 9. Four adults and five kids.
Had a terrific week with 2 families at smugglers lookout. Great house in a great location. No issues. The local beaches there are amazing. Try to get out in the water when you are there. Excellent vacation home base in BVI. Hope to return to paradise sooner than later!

A true paradise...
Great place to stay in Tortola with a "Million dollar view". Very nice house, clean and comfortable that gives you "home away from home" feel. Location is bit secluded, but very convenient and close to the one of the best beaches on the island. Great experience overall. Would come back in a snap...

The photo shows our boys hauling in a monster lobster they spotted on a family snorkel. With no equipment on them, they engineered a snare on the beach, held their breath and dove down to catch dinner. With the exception of Dave - Carolina, John and Derek were born and raised on Tortola and we have spent time exploring the BVI with a passion. Whether discovering our secret lobster and fishing spots, to surfing little known breaks, to exploring islands and hideaway beaches, we have certainly made the most of our time in the BVI. As winners of the "How well do you know the BVI?" contest it is safe to say that we are true "locals."
We are a very active outdoorsy family and all of us have an abundant appreciation for the beauty and the activities that surround us. We have been regular participants in the local sporting scene. Among our family is a BVI national champion triathlete, a 2 time Junior National 5k champion as well as winners of local Judo, cycling, fishing, tennis, paddle boarding, and swimming events.
We have recently moved from Tortola to further our children's educational opportunities and are pleased to open our home to others who share the same appreciation for the area. We would be delighted to host you and share our decades of experience living in the BVI to help you maximize your vacation!
Why they chose this property
We were fortunate enough to pick our parcel of land and then construct a home to our liking. Having grown up in the BVI, we were very familiar with some of the challenges of living on an island. We wanted easy access to the beach, but did not want to be right on the beach due to hurricane surges, sand flies, and the fact that beaches are open to the public 24 hours a day. We desired a view but did not wish to have to drive to the beach. Further, we wanted to build in a high end community with great privacy that was close to some of the islands best sporting opportunities. The areas finest swimming/snorkeling, mountain biking, paddle boarding/kayaking, hiking and surfing are immediately accessible from our villa.
What makes this property unique
This is our family's home. In fact it was the only home our children have known and now that it is available as a short term rental, there are many unique benefits.
All bedrooms have their own private balcony and bathroom. Our downstairs suite is accessed through its own entrance, has a kitchenette, living area, desk, outdoor shower and can sleep 2-5 making it ideal for a multiple family vacation.
With your rental we offer a number of our personal "toys" which could result in saving you hundreds of even thousands of dollars. Paddleboards, surfboards, kayaks, etc. come with your stay. Perhaps better than the cost savings is simply the convenience of having these options ready to use at any time.
For kids, our Turtle Pen housing our 3 Red Footed Tortoises Albert, Scratcher, and Tortilla is a highlight and much talked about aspect of the villa. We now have baby tortoises as well.
Power cuts are frequent and we have a standby generator. If power goes the generator goes on automatically so you don't have to do anything.
Rain squalls can make outdoor dining problematic, but not in our villa. Our outdoor dining patio is in the lee of the wind and under a massive covered deck allowing dining in such conditions.
With the combination of a stellar location, great accommodation, and personal touches not found elsewhere this villa is ideal for families or even multi families looking for a true Caribbean vacation experience.
