Last minute life saver

We booked this last minute when another property cancelled on us the day before our visit. The home is unique. Beds are comfortable. The deck was nice for coffee and the sunrise. Nice to have lake access. Could have been cleaner, especially the outside. Many broken chairs were at he lakeside, those should be removed. A bit further removed from where we wanted to be but a nice quiet neighborhood.

Quiet and Beautiful

Everyone was as pictured. Lake was secluded and pretty. Great place for having outdoor fires, lying on dock watching stars, and getting away from it all. I would come back.

This property is probably a better choice in the winter when you can see the lake through the trees. The round retro house is setup for beautiful lake views but some true pruning would be needed to see the lake from the home in the summer. Access to the lake is down a steep, rustic path that needs a good leave and stick clearing. And no yard to speak of for small children. Hot tub is very nice and clean. The home and furniture is showing some wear, as do many older rentals.

Overall, I do not recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: The retro lake landing house is quirky and fun but there were a few issues. The hot tub was not working from day one, it took 5 days for it to be fixed, allowing one day for our use. The property managers did address the issue but it took the whole week. Beds were adequate, linens good, a few broken things in the house like a hinge making the door close difficult. Kitchen equipment was great, any cooking utensil you can think of. We had a great time at the fire pit on the beach. I would suggest bringing camp chairs for the fire pit and dock. The driveway is very steep but our two wheel car did ok with some driving skills. Lake access and dock are great.

Bad Location and In Need of Maintenance

Rating Details: The property manager was very helpful. The vacation rental was clean. I was very unhappy with the location. I was somewhat dissatisfied with the condition of the vacation rental. Overall, I do not recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: The geography of this rental was bad in several ways and it was in need of maintenance. The driveway was extremely steep and narrow and parking more than one vehicle was nearly impossible. The hike from the dock back to the house was an Olympic event with only 1/4 of the path having stairs and the rest dirt/mud. Driving to and from this property required a very steep ascent and descent up and down the mountain. The property is on a main thoroughfare of the lake with constant wakes crashing into the dock, making fishing and docking a boat challenging. The property was not very well maintained and appliances are antiques. The deck was in poor condition and we discovered multiple maintenance issues inside the house. The only positive was that this house is secluded and private.

Cool Property, Poorly Managed & Falsely Advertised

A lot of things went wrong on this trip and I have to attribute 100% of them to the property management company, Taylor Made.The door code was wrong and we had to call Taylor made for a new code. Luckily we didn't show up after office hours or we would have been sleeping in the car.The hot water main was not turned on. We had no hot water until I found the main to turn it on to the house.On day 2, a worker showed up unannounced to fill the hot tub that was not only not filled but, it was partially disassembled when I saw it. The hot tub was a big part of the reason we chose this place.When the worker was filling the hot tub, the house water pressure went to 0 psi and we had no running water at all in the house. I had to turn of the outside faucet so we could shower and do dishes.The listing and the literature in the house said "PET FRIENDLY" so we brought our cat. We went for a walk and when we came back our cat was seemingly gone. We thought another unannounced worker possibly let it out. When I called the rental office to see if another worker was there, I was told cats aren't allowed and I could either board it or leave. We left...2 days early. I guess the no cat policy is in the FINE PRINT of the 10 page 7 font unreadable on a smart phone contract that you get AFTER you pay. Worst VRBO experience ever and I've been using VRBO for almost 2 decades.

Stingy on supplies

It was a lovely property, but for the price I paid for it I really don’t think I should have to provide my own paper towels, toilet paper, trash bags, dish soap, etc. A small thing that will most likely keep me away from this management company in the future

Overall, I do not recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: For $2,000 I could’ve taken a cruise where everything was taken care of. We couldn’t even get a fire pit at a lake house! When we asked for toiletries the response was we needed to bring our own. I’m sorry but for $2,000 this stuff should be standard. At least the state parks are nice.

This homeowner did just spend over $100,000 in renovations but they didn't add a firepit, I will definitely pass your suggestion onto the homeowner though. Action packed and relaxing!

Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: As a family with teenagers, we loved our stay at Retro-Landing! We split our time between relaxing on the dock and participating in the many activities available in the area! We went horseback riding, kayaking, rode the mountain coaster, the mountain bike course, and shopping! The only issues we had was now Wi-fi when we arrived (which was rectified within an hour of calling the office) and th vaccum cleaner that didn't work. The scenery is gorgeous! We would definitely stay there again!!!!

Overall, I do not recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: Horrible rental...can not believe that Taylor made actually has this on there list of rentals! The smell of cat permeates as soon as you open the door, refrigerator smelled like dead fish, leak from the upstairs shower into the lower bedroom was there for sometime creating mold on the ceiling tile! I could go on and on but the one thing that I was very impressed with was how Taylor made rental company handled our complaints... they immediately offered options and was very professional. The rest of our vacation was great!

Deep Creek lakeside house

The house is very close to the Wisp ski area and the location on the lake is wonderful. I liked the round design of the house and the living space has a feel of a Yurt with great views over the lake. There is plenty to do around McHenry for a family. We enjoyed skiing at Wisp, snow tubing and the mountain roller coaster. We also visited Falling Waters. On cloudless nights you also get to see the stars. The house is pet friendly and we brought along our dog. The driveway to the house is step and a four wheel drive vehicle is recommended in snowstorms. The property management team was friendly and the house was clean. I would definitely consider returning to this house for another ski trip.

Wonderful vacation

I was more than satisfied with the condition of the vacation rental. Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: It was a great week. Incredible views, wildlife (we had a bear visit us a couple of times), good fishing. The only problems I had were minor ones with the management company (that they're taking care of) and that the place isn't built for people who have disabilities or are older. Don't let this stop you from going. It just means you'll have to enjoy the views rather then long walk down to the lake and get a hand going down the spiral staircase. All and all I'd give the place a 4.5 out of 5.

It coulda' been a contender

Overall, I do not recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: Loved the concept. Comfortable beds, but to say sleep 9....? 2 of 3 doors had busted screens, so no fresh air unless you like bugs, forcing A/c use. Better instruc for use of house a must! All of the glass was filthy, inside & out. K & bthrms clean & well-stocked. Distance & how steep of incline to lake would be helpful for older folks. Also, let folks know limited trash availability for those cooking all week! If this is cleaned pro, somebody is getting ripped off.

Wanted to love it...

Overall, I do not recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: I love this house, lots of character, and more room than advertised. However, the trundle bed had mouse poop, urine and holes in it and there was no way I was going to sleep on it. The nice rental company brought an air mattress the second night, which had collapsed but 10 pm so I really didn't sleep. That being said, the water entry was sandy and easy fro little kids, the house has a lot of fun character and the setting would have been perfect if not for the frat boys yelling drunkenly and setting off fireworks next door. If the mattresses are replaced, maybe even a mattress cover for the fold out couch, it would be a 4-5 star. Cleanliness was excellent, except for the mattresses (and that is more condition than cleanliness in my opinion).
