Located along what locals call Eagle Alley, the property sits on Salmon Creek and is the perfect location for your whole family's Alaskan adventures. The cabin is on a quiet street away from the bustle of town, but still close for a quick trip to the grocery store, Exit Glacier, or the Sea Life Center. You'll be surrounded by mountain views and access to a rushing river with spawning salmon all summer. Salmon Creek attracts many bald eagles, and they are often seen fishing. Most years, a nest is built in the cottonwood tree near the river. If active, you'll see chicks in the nest by June and July. By August they'll be pretty confident in flight. We often have moose wander through the property and even the occasional brown bear can be seen in the creek when the salmon are running.
The house features vaulted wood ceilings, 1st floor bathroom, 2nd floor master bathroom, and on-site laundry. The attached 3-season room (or "arctic entry" as they are know here) offers an outdoor dining area or place to dry out clothes or fishing gear. You will find a queen beds in the upstairs master bedroom and 1st floor bedroom, and twin bunk beds in the 3rd bedroom. All bedroom windows have thick curtains for blocking out Alaska's midnight sun. The house is on the smaller side at 1,000sf but vaulted ceilings, huge windows, and large yard give it a spacious feel. There are lots of classic board games, cards, and puzzles but no TV in the cabin.
The kitchen is fully stocked with cookware, utensils, knife set, cutting boards, and bowls/cups/plates. For appliances you'll find a microwave, stove/oven, toaster, coffee maker/grinder (filters and locally roasted whole bean coffee are supplied), and full size refrigerator/freezer (no ice maker). We stock a choice of coffees, selection of tea, cooking oil, and common spices. Outside, there is a fire pit and Webber charcoal grill (charcoal is supplied, firewood is generally not supplied).
The forested property has a path that winds through patches of wild strawberries, blueberries, and raspberries ending at the private shore of the creek. You'll find a fire-pit with benches and a charcoal grill (supplies included).
The yard is a typical rural Alaskan yard: lots of alder, low bushy willow, an old shed, devil's club, dandelion, and fireweed. In other words, wild, a little messy, and excellent moose browse and cover. Moose don't browse or feel comfortable on manicured lawns. South-central Alaska is like a jungle in the summer, and although there is a lawn of sorts and plenty of room for the fire pit or even a round of wiffleball, much of the property is left wild. Some guests are surprised to see rural Alaska has lots of "junk". It's not uncommon to have a derelict boat, truck, or RV in ones yard.
There is an owner occupied cabin on the far side of the one acre property and we share a common driveway. We're available to chat and answer questions outside of our busy summer jobs, or available anytime via phone or message. Please be advised the cabin is not in a remote location, but rather a low density neighborhood near town.
House Rules: Each party should read the house manual upon arrival.
The house is on a private well and septic system. The tap water is great: double filtered, fresh, and clean tasting. The septic system requires care to ensure no oil or food enter the drains. Wipe out oily pans with paper towels and throw away.
Quiet hours are 11pm-8am. Ours is a peaceful quiet neighborhood. No outdoor music/yelling during quiet hours. Parties are not allowed.
Children should be supervised near the creek.
Wildlife uses the property and has "right of way". Do not approach any wildlife on the property or anywhere in Alaska. We have never had any issue and the neighborhood is safe for children, but we ask visitors simply to be aware of their surroundings. Eagles and their nests are federally protected, it is against the law to disturb a nest, eagles, or a nest tree.
We have a can of "Bear Spray" available if you want to carry it while hiking in the area. Please return it to the porch when you are done. We ask that bear spray not be brought inside the house.
Our prices include all fees. No hidden fees.

About the host

I think Seward is Alaska's most beautiful town. Surrounded by mountains, forests, and Resurrection Bay, it truly has it all. We love our little cabin, and hope to share it with your family and friends.
What makes this property unique
A quiet neighborhood just outside of town. You'll find this property pretty wild for how close to town it is. Moose, bear, and porcupine pass through frequently. It's situated on Salmon Creek on a street that doesn't have any through traffic. Even on our busiest weeks, like the 4th of July, it feels peaceful at the cabin. Plus, few lots in Seward receive such great sunlight.
