thank you ! For those who have an affinity for water....our riverFRONT properties offer an option to the exorbitant rates of oceanfront and lake front rentals. Some of these properties are adding on as much as $450 'cleaning fee'. where as ours is just $50. Buyer beware. Glad to know you enjoyed your stay !

Thank you for the opportunity to brag a bit :-) We have a full, tenured staff....meaning they have not missed a day from illness, nor have they opted to go on unemployment. They make their house payments, and pay their rent. Thank you for supporting our business, and recognizing the effort that the staff puts forth. No slouches sucking off the government here. Their work ethic and willingness to care about the quality of their work are key attributes to our success.

Rhododendron Cottage

Comfortable with all we needed. Sadly no easy access to the river. Quiet and private apart from the odd fisherman

thank you for your review. But I am a little confused that you say "no easy access to the river" ??? This property is so close to the river you could fish from the hot tub. :-) We have actually had people accidentally drop their fish in the hot tub while trying to get it unhooked ! LOL This property is perched on a bulkhead with a stairway to the water. For a handicapped person or a person whose mobility is challenged....the stairway (which consists of maybe 8-10 steps) may be a problem...but to fish all one would need to do is drop a line over the bulkhead. ...and anyone who cannot negotiate the stairway should probably not get near the water, as it is not normally a lazy river. Odd fisherman ?? :-) To the readers of this review, no one can access the river from this property but our guests. People fishing in the river must stay in the water, and cannot cross through the property....they must stay in the river. The river belongs to the public, and its a wonderful place to fish, canoe, or kayak.

Excellent property owners

The property was very neat and tidy. A small issue that the property owner had no control of arises. She was very accommodating and had a solution in a very timely manner. Would recommend the property to there for sure

just to clarify to others who may read this review> Your stay was impacted by the severe winter weather we were experiencing. Extreme cold temperatures and wind existed. The wind caused interruptions to the cable because the lines run thru the trees, not underground. Additionally, on the last day of your stay, a small animal sought warmth from the severe cold by crawling under the deck of the hot tub. In doing so, it knocked a water line loose. As soon as you notified the office, , we immediately dispatched personnel to remedy the issues. Unfortunately, both of these issues were unforeseen, and did not occur because of mismanagement. Like many others around the nation, West Virginia has also been impacted by the severe weather. Nonetheless, we made a $100 refund.

Rhododendron cabin

Cabin was very nice and clean, great location, staff very friendly, the only thing we didn’t care for were the mattresses they were very, very firm , some prefer firm lol we prefer softer mattresses we woke up stiff lol. I would recommend and have recommended the cabin to others. Thank you for a nice ,peaceful mini vacation it was very relaxing. Oh and we loved the river I caught a brown trout right from the porch lol

excellent on your 'catch' ! We have actually had people lose them while getting them unhooked...and the fish ended up in the hot tub !! :-) About the firm mattresses. You are correct. We have top notch firm' mattresses.....but they don't have the cushy pillow tops that some are accustomed to these days. We have added to the list of 'things to bring' mattress toppers (aka: memory foam pads).

Wondeful

The cabin was literally on top of the Cheats River. Although there was only two of us, the cabin would comfortably sleep 6. The only unpleasant experience was related to the volume of disinfectant used to clean the property. The smell was overwhelming the first night but it cleared out the following morning and the rest of our stay was perfect. I guess clean is good in today's world of Covid. Thoroughly enjoyed are stay!

Quiet and scenic

This legit log cabin was just what we needed for a quiet and scenic weekend to get away from the craziness of life! We unplugged from social media, read, enjoyed the hot tub and the peaceful, up-close view of the Cheat River. The gas fireplace was convenient and perfect! When we noticed the freezer wasn’t working Roxye had Scott bring over a mini-fridge within 20 minutes so we wouldn’t be inconvenienced! Much appreciated. The town of Elkins is great—good people, great places to eat (i.e. Scotty’s for breakfast and The Forks for dinner). We’ll definitely be back!

Thank you for your comments. When the unexpected happens, and a Plan B needs to be executed that is when our staff sets us apart from most other rental properties. We have been in business for over 35 years, and have several properties (all listed on VRBO) so we are able to staff around the clock. This is why we are able to take care of the hot tub 'daily'. We believe that this is the only way to assure its safe use. And by the way, we had a new refrigerator installed at this property., thanks for yor understanding.

Quiet getaway

If you need technology, this is not the place for you. Simple, quiet time alone is just what we needed. Grocery is minutes away which is good because there is nothing there. No salt or pepper, no paper towels etc. Come prepared. The house is clean, plenty of towels and comfortable beds. Only challenges were the hot tub jets did not work, and the ceiling fan remote had no batteries. The fan would have helped to circulate the heat. .
Stayed 2 nights in Feb 2019
Response from VrboOwner on 21 Mar 2020
New jets have been ordered. Thanks for your input, as there does appear to be lower than expected pressure when the jets are turned on 'high'. The jet itself works, it's actually the air (bubbler) that has malfunctioned. We are sorry we did not know about the need for batteries in the fan remote. We keep those type of supplies on hand, and our property manager who lilves on premise could have corrected that immediately if we had known. Thank you for your comments.

Perfect Getaway

The pictures that are shown don't do this place justice. The cabin is beautiful. It has an equipped kitchen with cooking utensils, pots and pans. It has an electric stove, microwave and full size refrigerator. When we checked in, we walked in to the air conditioning on and it was very cool. The hot tub was a nice feature as the boys were fishing, us girls lounged in the hot tub. The bedrooms had clean and comfortable linens and they provided more than enough bath towels and toilet paper. The only thing I was disappointed with was that we were not able to have a fire, but when I spoke to Roxye, she explained the reasoning behind it. This cabin provides privacy and it was beautifully open to gaze at the starry night. The fishing was not too good, but it had rained all day the Friday so the river was murky, high and running fast, which no one could prevent. Overall, I would stay here again and recommend this to others. The next time we stay, we will probably have to stay at another one of their properties due to the size in our party.

Last minute weekend getaway

My boyfriend and I were looking for a close to home weekend getaway and came upon this listing for cabins in Elkins, WV. We liked that it was just a couple of hours from home but was still kinda off the grid. We couldn’t be more pleased with the cleanliness of the cabin. It had everything we needed and the screened in porch and hot tub was our haven. Thank you for such a great place to stay and relax. Next time we will be bringing our fishing poles.

Weekend Stay on Shavers Fork

We had a lovely long weekend at the Rhododendron cabin. Plenty of room for the two of us. Every thing was very clean and warm. The hot tub was delightful. We had a little trouble with the WiFi, but Roxye was extremely helpful in getting it up and running. We would definitely go back again, maybe in the summer, when we would enjoy the gorgeous scenery from the delightful screened in porch.

Yeah for that !!! We are proud to say that our 'on premise' staff does a great job at keeping our property clean, and reviewers are typically mention this as you have done. They have never missed a day through this Covid fiasco...nor did they opt to take unemployment ! Good employee retention contributes greatly to a good experience. Because we have several properties along the river at this location, we are able to employ a large staff which allows us to provide a high level of customer service There are NO 'help wanted' signs hanging here.

Place was beautiful, right in the river. Loved the screen porch. We received a lot of instructions after we booked; would have been better to get those up front. But they weren’t unreasonable asks, so it was fine.

In our 38 years of rental experience,, we have learned that more is better than less when it comes to information about check-in procedures, what to bring, directions, instructions of use of internet, and how we are dealing with Covid on our premises. We put them in separate emails so that they are easy to share with others that may be in residence. We have also learned that if we send them upfront they are not read, and get lost in the reesrvation process. Thanks for your input.

Amazing getaway!

This place is just what my daughter (14yrs) and I needed for a relaxing getaway. I'm always hesitant about booking new places, but I'm so glad I booked this one. This is definitely an old bones cabin, which is exactly what we wanted. We didn't want to stay in a newer house that is called a cabin. We loved how cozy and full of old, rustic character the cabin is. We even loved the "uneven" floors. While one bed downstairs was definitely firm, the other bed was much softer and perfect for me. The couches are leather, clean, and comfortable. It was stocked with everything that is listed in the description. We found the manager, Roxye, to be responsive and accessible. A staff member came by daily to check the hot tub, see if we needed anything, and remove the outside trash. Checking in and out was a breeze. The cabin's location is excellent. It is 30 minutes to a hour away from all the things we wanted to do; Blackwater Falls, Seneca Rocks, and Snowshoe Mountain. Bickle Knob is 5 minutes away from the cabin and is a beautiful drive up to the observation tower. Being from Florida, the freezing temperatures (17°F - 35°F) were a wonderful change. We even had a little snow. We would definitely like to come back in the summer to enjoy the river. The only thing I can "complain" about is the bathroom vanity drawers. The inside of them needed to be cleaned better. There was quite a bit of hair in them. This isn't enough to give less than 5 stars in cleanliness. Everything else was perfect. If you are looking for a true cabin getaway, I highly recommend this place! Thanks to Roxye and Staff for making our stay perfect. We will be back!

Joan you changed your 4 star review when you learned we would no longer accept reservations from you. Certainly reasons existed to cause us to bar you from our property. It gets awesome reviews. But your guests called us, and apologized for your unwarranted behavior, adding that you often exhibit this outrageous behavior. Noting that tantrums like 'demanding' an "immediate"replacement on a Friday night of a refrigerator bulb is a bit unhinged, especially given the fact that it worked when you checked in the day before. You went off on a maintenance man because he could not pull a dish towel out of his hat and needed to make a trip to the laundry room. All I can say is that your therapy dog wasn't performing well...and for the safety of our staff, we are initiating a "no trespass".

Why they chose this property

I fell in love with this peaceful riverside spot along the Shavers Fork of the Cheat River, just minutes from Elkins, because it offers the perfect blend of serene nature and convenient small-town charm. The cabin sits in a quiet, rural area at the edge of the vast Monongahela National Forest, where the rushing river provides a constant, soothing soundtrack and world-class trout fishing is literally steps away.

What I enjoy most is waking up with coffee, relaxing on the screened porch listening to the water, and feeling completely unplugged yet close to everything. A quick drive takes you to charming downtown Elkins with its arts scene, scenic train rides, breweries, and festivals—or deeper into the forest for hiking and wildlife spotting. It's true Almost Heaven: secluded, beautiful, and full of adventure without the crowds!

What makes this property unique

This stretch of riverfront offers privacy that is hard to come by as other areas have developed with camping parks and cabins. It’s perfect for fishing enthusiasts as it sits along the Shavers Fork of the Cheat River, which is a notorious, heavily stacked stream. The location adjacent to the Monongahela National Forest offers tons of opportunities to get outside! Proximity to the ski-resorts (30 miles to Canaan/Timberline, 50 miles to Snowshoe/Silver Creek) offers the option of downhill skiing too for day trips. Within a short drive is Elkins, known as a quirky, eclectic town where you will find interesting shops and restaurants in addition to the conventional retail outlets and grocery stores.
