About this property

Seven-bedroom beautiful home in the heart of London (Westminster)

So central that you share a postcode with Royalty! You can walk to Buckingham Palace in under ten minutes - and to many of the other main tourist attractions.

This spectacular family home is a classic Victorian London townhouse built in 1851 and quietly situated in a magnificent terraced crescent. A history of the house through to the present day has been compiled and published, - and we gift each group of guests a 'memento' copy. The house boasts 7 bedrooms (3 with desks), a conservatory/office (two or three people can work there), a sitting room, a kitchen-dining room (seats 12), 3 x bath/shower rooms + 2 x separate WCs. Free unlimited high-speed wi-fi throughout; 5 x SMART TVs with Netflix included and most other apps available, Bluetooth speakers and Amazon Echo. With the rooms laid out on four main floors (and some mezzanines), the house works well for extended families or a team of co-workers.

In the various bedrooms there are 4 x large double beds (150cm, 5'6' wide), 1 x smaller double bed (135 cm, 4"6" wide), 3 x single beds - and 2 x fold-out bed-chairs in 2 large bedrooms (for nervous children). There are black-out blinds or shutters in all bedrooms. Maximum permitted occupancy is 12 people plus infants (2 x cots provided). The main rooms have ornate ceilings, cast iron and marble fireplaces fitted with coal-effect open fires, chandeliers & working Victorian window-shutters. The house is fitted with every modern convenience: washing machine, separate tumble dryer, top-of-the-range espresso coffee machine, microwave, kitchen range (3 x ovens), American-style fridge freezer, dishwasher, 5 x hairdryers, 2 x irons.. All linen and towels are provided; and for children there are books, toys, 2 x highchairs (as well as the 2 cots) and other baby equipment. Cosy in winter (central heating + underfloor heating), cool in summer (air-conditioning on the top floor and high-quality fans in all other rooms, plus an air purifier), the house is comfortable in all weathers. There’s a suntrap terrace leading from the kitchen, plus a delightful patio garden wreathed in jasmine and wisteria and calming the soul with gently running water (which you can turn off!) An excellent sports centre with public-access gym and swimming pools is a two-minute WALK from the house.

The house is warm in winter and cool in summer. In winter, there is central heating in all rooms; in summer, we provide air-conditioning on the top floor, which can get uncomfortably hot. The lower floors never do, as the house is brick-built in a terrace, but we provide fans in ALL other rooms for the occasional days when the temperature in London is very hot.

We keep the house in immaculate condition, constantly re-painting to remove scuff marks and renewing furniture and accessories regularly. Over the last five years, every room has been refurbished. Guests frequently comment on our level of cleanliness and attention to detail. A welcome pack of groceries greets you on arrival.

We pride ourselves on the fact that the house is imaginatively decorated and laid out in such a way that there are great opportunities for privacy, as well as for all members of the household to meet sociably.

The location of this wonderful house is unbeatable. Although it is situated in the very heart of London, it is quietly positioned. The area is safe and well served in every possible way. The neighbouring streets are full of great local shops including supermarkets (open all hours), specialist delicatessens, hardware shops, a post-office, beauty salons and hairdressers, haute couture and antique shops, as well as a wide range of restaurants, cafes and marvellous food carry-outs. At one end of the street is a local food market; at the other, under two minutes' walk from the house, is Pimlico Underground ('Tube') Station and terrific local bus routes. From the house it is just a short stroll to Victoria Station, Tate Britain, the Thames, Buckingham Palace, Westminster Cathedral, St James’ Park, Battersea Park, Downing Street, the Houses of Parliament and Westminster Abbey. Several theatres are close by, too, as is a beautiful cinema.

It is only a short tube/bus/taxi ride (or you can walk) to Hyde Park, Harrods, Harvey Nichols, Oxford Street, Piccadilly Circus, the West End, Chinatown, Covent Garden, Trafalgar Square, Leicester Square, the National Gallery, the National Theatre, the National Film Theatre, the Festival Hall, Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre, the Tate Modern the London Eye, the London Aquarium, and other main London attractions. There are easy transport links to all London airports and mainline stations, and London and regional coach tours. For those who like to run or jog, there are accessible routes from the house along the River Thames and through the nearby parks.

This spectacular house is brilliantly located for special annual London events, including - within WALKING distance - all Royal Family celebrations, the Chelsea Flower Show , the London Marathon (finishing line), the New Year's Day Parade, the Lord Mayor's Procession & Show, the Trooping of the Colour, the Thames Festival, the State Opening of Parliament, Guy Fawkes Night (5 November - walk across the river to Battersea Park), the New Year Fireworks (watch them from outside Tate Britain, five minutes' walk from the house). Westminster Abbey, St John's Smith Square and Westminster Cathedral are all within ten minutes' walk and magical for Christmas Carols.

Within a short tube/bus ride you'll reach the London International Boat Show, the Olympia Fine Art & Antique Fair, the Holiday and Travel Show, Party in the Park, the London Proms at the Albert Hall, the Covent Garden Festival of Street Theatre, the Notting Hill Carnival, the Russian Winter Festival, the Chinese New Year celebrations - and outdoor skating during the winter months. Equally close is the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition, the. National Film Theatre (the heart of the great London film festival), the Chelsea Antiques Fair, the Christmas lights and many other major cultural and sporting events. Wimbledon Lawn Tennis is an easy tube-ride away, as is Wembley Stadium.

We purchased our central London home in 1985 and lived there until 2008. The moment we opened the door we loved it. It felt then, and feels now, as if only happy things have happened here - which can't possibly be true, since it's more than 170 years since it was built! We wanted to live right in the heart of London, and you can't get much closer to the heart than this. We also wanted a characterful house, with high ceilings, original features and a sense of generations upon generations of people having lived there before us. And that is exactly what we got! We raised our family here, working from home, so the house has always been busy and full of children. When we left it, and downshifted to another part of London, we rejoiced that we didn't have to sell it, and that other people could enjoy it too.

The remarkable thing about 'Pimlico' (the area of the London Borough of Westminster in which our house is situated), is that it is quite like a village, and yet it is right in the heart of perhaps the greatest city in the world. Neighbours know and look out for each other; our street contains many family houses and has an active residents' association, the shop keepers know us and are friendly, and yet the district is at the same time both cosmopolitan and fast-paced. In Pimlico you can live peacefully, yet never feel that life is passing you by.

Awesome visit

Our family of 9 adults found the property to be perfect as accommodations for gathering, dining, and sleeping. The location was exceptional for both walking and taking the underground. It is an easy walk to Harrods, for example, as well as to the Tate London, Parliament and many other desirable locations. The Pimlico tube stop is a 3 or 4 minute walk and ideally located on the Victoria line. Everyone enjoyed this home, and we'll be back!

A great house for a large group in an incredibly convenient location

I had a number of communication with the owner prior to arrival with times and direction to the house. The house was large enough for our family of 8 to all have our own place to hang out as well as hang out all together. The neighborhood is quiet and the underground and bus stops were both conveniently located. The house is equipped with everything you would need for a stay. There were plenty of place to eat and buy groceries around the house as well. We found a great fish and chips place and a breakfast restaurant about a 5 min walk away.

Ideal base for exploring London

We were here for a birthday celebration with the family. Six adults and four children. The house was ideal and provided the perfect base from which to explore London, visit the exhibitions, and go shopping etc. It was well equipped and welcoming in a fairly quiet neighbourhood just a short walk from the nearest tube station. Owners were helpful and friendly. Everything was perfect.

Beautiful home in perfect location.

We could not have asked for a more perfect home for our family. The home is very well maintained, the owners anticipated our every question and need, and then some. The entire process from the day I first contacted them to the return of the deposit was a pleasant experience. The location gave easy access to the underground, and Westminster station which made it easy for us to get everywhere we wanted to go. I would highly recommend this home for any large family (there was12 of us), and if we ever get the chance to return to London booking this home will be our first step.

Family haven in London

What a fantastic home. An amazing location with plenty of space. But it was the attention to detail and the attentive and super helpful customer service from the owners that makes it so special. There were toys and high chairs available for kids and multiple sitting areas so we could all have some space. The owners have also compiled comprehensive help sheets which were great. If you have children or just want to stay close into London I highly recommend this property. Just be aware there are 4 flights of stairs ( which is normal but in case of mobility issues) and essentially only 2 showers in the 3 bathrooms.

London Family Reunion

The property was a perfect place to explore London from. The street was very charming and the area was lovely with a small market that ran daily down the street. Our family had a wonderful time in London and it was nice to come together at the end of each day and eat breakfast together in this cozy house. Thank you so much for sharing your beautiful place with us.

Perfect, perfect, perfect and wow!

The first words that we all thought of when we walked up to the house were WOW! It looked just like the picture! Every aspect of this beautiful house exceeded our expectations. The house was immaculate and all the rooms were exactly as pictured and described. We were a party of 10 adults- 3 married couples and 4 singles. The bedrooms worked out perfectly and we had more than enough room at the kitchen table. The supplies were more than adequate for our needs. We especially loved that our lovely landlord had stocked our refrigerator with milk & butter and also left us a goodie basket with some bread and cereal & juice and most importantly wine to start our vacation. The house was superbly located, close to supermarkets, restaurants & pubs! We shopped at Tesco, a 2 minutes’ walk away, and ate at the Thai Cafe and the Constitution Pub, both excellent. We used the underground a few times, but with 10 of us, found it cheaper to go by cab when the distance was too much for walking. Recommend the Taxi App! We were within walking distance to almost everything we wanted to do and the neighborhood felt safe and very quaint. Wish we could have stayed longer to enjoy the gardens and the local area. Adrienne & Carole were excellent with tons of information ahead of time that helped immensely with our planning. I don't think we had put one minor question! Great job! I would say, even if you have to stretch your budget a bit, you won't go wrong with this rental. I have rented quite a few places over the past few years, in Rome, Amsterdam, and Washington, DC and this was by far the best yet. You always wonder how close to the description your house will be and paying in advance sometimes can be a bit unnerving. These ladies went beyond in helping me and my 9 other travel companions to feel comfortable with the entire process. We all hope to be able to return in the future!

The highlight of our London adventure

The words ‘112 Tachbrook Street’ will always bring back fond memories. The London Olympics were a spectacular success, and to live in the heart of the city in your beautiful home was, without question, a highlight of our adventure. Each of our family and guests commented on how special it was to ‘feel like a Londoner’ thanks to the style, location and comfort of your home. When I’d give newcomers a tour and walk into the living room I always said: ‘This is where we watch the Olympics when we are not actually at the Olympics!’ And indeed we did, creating memories just in that room. The family meals, the walks about town, always meeting back ‘home’ and the comfort of seeing Tachbrook Street again after a long but wonderful day at the events were all memorable. Thank you very much for helping to make our visit so wonderful.

A Most Memorable Vacation

We had a wonderful stay in London and the Tachbrook Street house was perfect for us. The location could not have been better or more convenient. We especially enjoyed the beautiful Warwick Square. I would highly recommend this property to friends and family travelling to London. I have absolutely no negative comments about the entire process or house. You were always prompt with my many questions and you were very helpful with the information provided after the booking. Thanks for all you did to make our vacation most memorable.

Tachbrook house fantastic place to stay

I had the opportunity to bring 7 college students to London for a week-long study trip. The Tachbrook house was absolutely perfect for our needs: plenty of space, everything well fitted and comfortable, and a fantastic location to easily get to the sites and transportation around the city. The proprietor was fantastic to work with and left plenty of helpful instructions and tips. I recommend this highly and will look forward to calling it home again on my next trip to London.

Winter stay 2010

2 colleagues and I stayed at this property for 3 nights while attending a conference at the QE2 centre. The flat's location was excellent - handy for tube access and walkable if it hadn't been Arctic like weather ! We liked the closeness of the shops and bars nearby - didn't get achance to eat at the Thai cafe but will do if back in future. The accomodation was first class- very clean and truly a home form home. All needs catered for with excellent kitchen, appliances, showers and comfy beds. Finally the owners are to be commended on their customer servicef which was antastic, Many thanks JH

House was just perfect!

It was really a wonderful stay in London, and the house was just perfect. We loved the toilet seats! The location was great and all the information given us by the owner about restaurants, shops, bus etc was very helpful (we used bus nr 24 most of the time as we were advised to do - kids loved to sit up in the front). One of the kids thought being in the house was the best attraction!

This place stands out!

We are back home in Italy and wanted to thank you for a lovely stay at Tachbrook. Our stay there stands out from the many different places we stayed during our month-long trip, and that is due to how well-organized and homey you have made the house. In fact, the bed was so comfortable there, I cannot resist asking you, may I know what type (brand/model) of mattress you use there?

Why they chose this property

We purchased our central London home in 1985 and lived there until 2008. The moment we opened the door we loved it. It felt then, and feels now, as if only happy things have happened here - which can't possibly be true, since it's more than 170 years since it was built! We wanted to live right in the heart of London, and you can't get much closer to the heart than this. We also wanted a characterful house, with high ceilings, classic original features and a sense of generations upon generations having lived there before us. And that is exactly what we got! We raised our family here, working from home, so the house has always been busy and full of children. When we downshifted to another part of London, we rejoiced that we didn't have to sell it, and that other people could now enjoy it too.

What makes this property unique

The remarkable thing about 'Pimlico' (the area of the London Borough of Westminster in which our house is situated), is that it is quite like a village, and yet it is right in the heart of perhaps the greatest city in the world. Neighbours know and look out for each other; our street contains many family houses and has an active residents' association, the shop-keepers know us and are friendly, and yet the district is at the same time both cosmopolitan and fast-paced. In Pimlico you can live peacefully, yet never feel that life is passing you by.
