The Grand Canal Apartment is located a few steps away from Rialto Bridge and its famous market, and at less than 10 minutes by walk from Saint Mark's Square.The apartment it on a first floor of an old Venetian building, is completely renovated (May 2007), sound-proof, fully furnished, and decorated in Venetian style. All around the area there are every kind of shops,bars,resturants,pharmacy,fashion,internet points,churches,museums, monuments, and true the little canals there is the gondolieri rowing them gondola and singing the venetian songs. This is the area where the venetian people live, and where they do their shopping.


Since its origin , before the year one thousand , Rialto has been the economic heart of Venice . During the Serenissima Republic, it was here in the market that real Venetian retail and wholesale trade took place. Over time,the Market became more important as a result of new warehouses, but above all due to the creation of the credit institutes know as ' Banchi' where money changing and loan operations were carried out.
In this context of great economic vitality and wealth, there was The Erbaria, the vegetable market mainly fed by the garden of the lagoon islands, The Pescaria , the fisch market, where the fresch fish arrived from the lagoon and along the coast, The Casaria , the cheese market and the Naranzaria ,the citrus fruits market.
Many of Rialto's buildings were destroyed by a great fire in 1514 and the reconstructed ; the only which was saved by the fire is the xi century Church of Saint Giacomo .
Today , Rialto is still a lively and crowded shopping place where, in the morning from Monday to Saturday the fruit and vegetable market and the food market take place and , from Tuesday to Saturday the fish, is held.
