About this property
Quiet Cottage in the heart of Bar Harbor 2025 Vacation Rental Permit # 1399
Walk to everything downtown. Access the Park in minutes. Whether you are here for the stunning views of Acadia National Park or the freshest lobster in the country, you will be in the perfect location to enjoy everything that Mount Desert Island has to offer.
Our two bedroom home is located at the end of the Shore Path in a quiet pocket neighborhood. Walk one block to Main Street and you are in the heart of downtown. Restaurants, the Village Green, and shops flank the streets. One block in the other direction, you are at the entrance to the Shore Path. Catch the morning sun sparkling on Frenchman's Bay while walking past beautiful homes and gardens. Both Grant Park and Agamont/town dock can be accessed this way. Our home is walking distance to a gated playground that will accommodate ages 2-8. Furry visitors have plenty of options from this location as well. 1.2 miles down the road is the Compass Harbor trailhead.
Hop in a car, and you can be at the Acadia National Park (ANP) entrance in minutes. You can also reach the Park on bike – we provide two Trek hybrid bikes that are perfect for riding the carriage trails. Better still, avail yourself of the free, low emissions busses, the Island Explorer, as parking will be an issue both in town and in the Park. Most busses you can catch right from the Village Green minutes from the house.
After a day of exploring ANP or a lovely meal downtown, walk back to our quiet little neighborhood. Our cozy home boasts a sunporch with a reading nook, living room, and eat in kitchen with newer appliances (including a dishwasher and garbage disposal). We reserve the house for our own use so it is fairly equipped with everything that you might need. Sleep with the windows open and enjoy the fresh Maine air. Rest assure our neighbors are the best and there is no noise.

About the host
Hosted by Herb Hess and Toni Mansfield

Toni and I and the kids enjoy hiking, kayaking, Family Fun Day at Seur Des Monts in Acadia (in July). We've been vacationing in Bar Harbor every summer since about 1998. We all enjoy the friendships we have formed here, which have lead to visits back to the Island every Thanksgiving as well. When we're not here we enjoy gardening, rollerskating and rollerblading, the beach, and hangin' with the kids.
Why they chose this property
Toni and I had been vacationing in Bar Harbor for about 7 years before we decided to be part of this wonderful community. Every few years we would extend our own vacation from one week to two to ... You get the idea.
Now that we have the opportunity to share Bar Harbor with our parents and kids for a good part of the summer, we reluctantly depart but are very happy in knowing that we can share the beauty of this town, island, and National treasure with many others.

What makes this property unique
McKays menu continually changes and is perfect for an American or European taste in a beautifully restored home setting, often with live entertainment and outdoor seating available, too. Say Hi to Brian when you get there.
Life would not be complete without the Farmers Market on Sunday at the YMCA parking lot from 9 to noon. We're particularly taken with the Camembert cheese rounds that we pair up with baguette bread from Hannaford's and Palacio chorizo we bring from our winter home.
We'll take these treats to Compass Harbor (see our map on this listing) for a secluded picnic, dog walk, and restful afternoon.
