The Gate House - Lake Views and Private Cove

Welcome to The Gate House, a beautifully decorated lakefront 4 bdrm, 3 bath home on Smith Mountain Lake with easy access to a private waterfront and dock. You will enjoy spectacular views of the main channel from our quiet cove with plenty of deep water to park your boat as well as swim, kayak, or paddle board. Ten minute access to boat rentals, grocery store, and restaurants! Enjoy your time with family/friends with two levels of entertainment space; something for everyone!

The main level of the house has a fully stocked kitchen that will meet all of your cooking needs! There is seating for four at the island and seating for eight more at the dining table! Enjoy views of the water from almost every room of the entire house! The Main level also has a bedroom with a king bed, large closet, and a bathroom with shower and whirlpool tub. An additional full bathroom and queen bedroom are also on the main level. Enjoy a quiet cup of coffee on the private master bedroom deck or enjoy dinner with friends and family on the main upper deck with table and grill.

Downstairs, there is a large entertainment space with TV. There is a ping pong table and foosball table and plenty of games, puzzles and toys for all ages! Another king bedroom is downstairs with an attached full bathroom as well as an additional queen bedroom. All downstairs bedrooms open to the large lower deck with comfortable chairs, table, and a fire pit!

It is an easy walk from the deck to the dock. The dock is in deep water for your boat with a large table! There are kayaks and a stand up paddle board for you to use during your stay and life jackets for all sizes! Our private cove makes swimming and enjoying the water easy and safe for everyone!

The Gate House hosts thought of everything that could possibly be necessary to be a home away from home. Every possible kitchen appliance, utensils, cleaning products, cookbooks, first aid kits, etc. The bedding was super comfortable and all rooms had very nice furniture. The kids toys were very organized and the foosball and ping-pong tables were a big hit. The lakefront views with a dock for fishing and relaxing were the icing on an amazing stay!

Love this property! This was our second time staying and hope to return. Clean, we sticked and the owner is super responsive! Great location, close to shopping and wineries wirh a beautiful view of the lake. Highly recommend.

A weekend away

Wonderful house for a weekend away for longtime friends. Kitchen was well stocked, and the beds were all comfortable. The game room was a nice bonus. Enjoyed the lake views.

Lovely Lakeside Home

No complaints here. Lovely home with private dock and cove - great for swimming, fishing and just enjoying the water. The home itself is so well stocked, nicely decorated and comfortable. We had eight adults in total and all really enjoyed their stay. Loved the scenic sunroom, kayaks, paddle board, ping pong and fire pit. Lots to do for everyone!!

Thanksgiving Family Getaway

The Gate House is a terrific property. Beautiful lake views, lots of indoor and outdoor space, very well maintained. The kitchen supplies were great and, by far, the most extensive we’ve ever experienced with a rental. Our family of 8 had a wonderful Thanksgiving and thoroughly enjoyed the property and surrounding area.

2025 SPRING WOW TRIP

This is our WOW (Women of Wine) trips' 3rd time staying at The Gatehouse in about 8 or so years and the home is in as great condition as it was the very first time, which is rare! Such lovely, inviting, well stocked and comfortable relaxing conditions. The owners are very responsive and friendly. We have decided to make this our regular location for our spring outings!

SML Hidden Gem

We had a great vacation at the Gate house. The pictures online are wonderful but when we arrived, the layout and the attention to detail was amazing. Beautiful home. The location was great and very private in the cove. I would recommend definitely having a boat ( we rented and many places to choose from) to explore the lake. Everyday was a new adventure and places to explore plus the weather gods were with us this past week. The dock is wonderful for hanging out and enjoying the evenings. Kitchen was very well stocked and made it a pleasure to cook meals. We all agreed we would definitely rent the Gate house again and had a memorable first visit to SML! Thank you!

When driving to the house I got a little nervous and thought maybe my GPS was wrong but trusted the process (as they say) and am glad that I did. The house is beautiful! Clean, open, and quiet- exactly what was needed during the craziness of the end of the year and the holidays. The vibe of the house is neutral and accepting. Beautiful peaceful views great for coffee on the deck in the morning. Host was easy to work with and gracious. Would definitely revisit.

Great place!

Our small group had a really nice time and the cove/dock offered a lot of peace and quiet. The sunroom was a wonderful place to hang out. Perfect stay for all of us.
