About this property
Hale "Hā Hā" Apartment - 3 blocks from ocean cliffs
Hale "Hā Hā" is a one-bedroom, one-bath, 588 sq. ft. apartment that has separate living quarters with a private entrance and a relaxing lanai. We now have air conditioning! We provide a welcome gift of local Hawaiian products, along with coffee and tea. The kitchenette is fully stocked with an induction burner, microwave oven, refrigerator, plates, silverware, blender, toaster and pots and pans. The lanai also has a charcoal barbecue for our guests to use, and we provide the charcoal to guess upon request. We are a short walk to Kahakai Park, our neighborhood ocean-front park. Our property is adjacent to an empty lot that we owner that is planted with fruit trees. We are generally cultivating an exotic fruit orchard! There is private, off-street parking for our guests. They are free to roam our outdoor property to see our flowering plants and fruit trees!
Our apartment has a 42" flat screen TV with hundreds of HD cable channels. There is also free wifi with reliable, high speed internet.
Cell service in this area can be spotty. AT&T works relatively well but Verizon and T- Mobil/Sprint can be a problem. High Speed internet is truly high speed and if you have WiFi calling on your phone, you should have no problem sending pics back to the mainland to your relatives! Our neighborhood is located within the Hawaiian Beaches neighborhood. We are 3 blocks from Kahakai Park, our neighborhood ocean-front park. Many birds inhabit the surrounding jungle areas and you are close enough to hear and sometimes feel the ocean waves breaking on the shoreline.
We are a short drive to Hawaii Volcano National Park, Kehena Black Sand Beach, snorkeling in Hilo and Pahoa nightlife. Experience the Big Island the way that the locals do. The Hawaiian Kingdom, Mauna Kea and the world's largest active volcano, Mauna Loa.
The Hele On bus stops at our front door if you need to travel to other parts of the island or Pahoa. Weekdays it is available continuously if you do not have a rental car. It is highly suggested that you have a rental, as it is 30 to 40 minutes to the airport with normal traffic. Cab service is available but can be expensive. If we are going your way, we will drop you off.

These were quiet and cozy accommodations. They provide all the toiletries and beach gear needed for a fun time on the Big Island. Very gracious and helpful hosts and I would highly recommend this location in Pahoa, Hawaii.
Clean, nice walk to the coast to watch the sun rise. Would come again. Host are very nice. Has AC which is nice too. About a 4 mile drive to the closest market.
The place was great. Plenty of room and very comfortable bed. I have nothing bad to say about my stay. I took walks to the beach park every morning and barbecued at night on this awesome smoker. The hosts were incredible. They are realtors and know a lot about the island. I wasn’t just vacationing I was planning on staying. They became my agent and they found me my home. Five stars for sure,
The location was PERFECT, the home was PERFECT, the host were PERFECT everything about was PERFECT. Our host provided things that weren't expected and why topped it off was that they were there to welcome us to their home at such a late hour of the evening. Mahalo Piha.
It's a very nice property. Great location. Everything worked well, including the Wi-Fi. There were no problems at all.
I only wish we could have thanked the owner personally. we only saw them when we arrived.
Plenty of space, a lot of nice little addtions like water int he fridge and some candy along with restaraunt reviews and a number to order pizza. The check in process was a little different as the owners met us to let us in. Never had that happen before but it was fine. They were very nice and helpful
The location was not in sync with google maps, but a quick call to the owners showed we were only a block away. They did provide written directions but we failed to print them off.
Place was very clean, the bed was comfy, no annoying ants or other insects. The refrigerator was much larger than depicted in the description, so that was a plus. Beach chairs, towels, cooler, etc all provided. Even noticed a pack n play. A quick walk to the park and ocean cliffs where we were fortunate enough to see whales rather close to the shore! Quiet neighborhood. We liked that it was a short drive to Pahoa where we enjoyed LuQuin’s almost daily 💃
Would recommend this property!
These hosts were super friendly, easy to communicate with, and gave us the best tips on where and when to best see the volcano eruption. They even lend us a lamp, so we could go hike in the volcano at night!
The neighborhood is very quiet, yet super close to good restaurants/ convenience stores.
If I could say something about improvements would be the smell of humidity in the apartment at check-in (perhaps common on the island), and set up some traps for cockroaches (we had to kill 2).
Be aware there is no reception around the house, you will need to use the Wi-Fi to use your GPS.
We had a wonderful time at Diane and Allen’s place. Our hosts were wonderful. I wish we could have stayed longer but we only planned to stay one night in Hilo.
We chose this property because of its proximity to Hawaii Volcanoes National Park. It’s in a local neighborhood and not at all a tourist area. We only had two nights on the big island. This was a home base for us to shower and sleep. This place was perfect for that. An update from the photos is that there is a full size fridge now - a great upgrade! The on-site owners were super friendly and helpful. We checked in at 8pm and we were happy they wanted to chat with us about the park and experiences with previous eruptions. We appreciated their advice about viewing the current lava flow at the park. They were very easy to talk with. I recommend this location!

About the host
Hosted by Allen & Dianne Moore
Dianne and her husband Allen have recently moved from the Central Coast, California to the Pahoa area on the Big Island. After visiting the Big Island for over a decade, they are now living the Hawaiian dream. They enjoy every aspect of living the coastal life - from swimming in the local warm pond to enjoying local foods and activities! They will be happy to share information about the local scene.
Why they chose this property
Hale "Hā Hā" is located 3 blocks from the ocean, and a short drive to Hawaii Volcano National Park, gorgeous hot ponds, heated bays, Kehena Black Sand Beach, snorkeling and Pahoa nightlife. Experience the Big Island the way that the locals do. Unbelievable lava adventures, hot ponds, The Hawaiian Kingdom, Mauna Kea and the world's largest active volcano, Mauna Loa. Oh, did we mention our most active volcano, Kilauea, with lava currently flooding into the Pacific creating new land as we speak?
What makes this property unique
The sound of the ocean waves will lull you to sleep every night! Our property is surrounded on two sides by thick jungle growth. We are also cultivating an exotic fruit orchard. We also have flowering plants and bamboo on our grounds!
