About this property

Blue Lotus Cottage, Walk to Downtown Kennett Square, Near Longwood Gardens

Escape to the Blue Lotus, a thoughtfully designed cottage tucked on a quiet cul-de-sac in the heart of Kennett Square. Located just steps from our main home, this separate, single-level retreat combines privacy, garden surroundings, and the pleasure of walking into town. Stroll to local shops, restaurants, and cafés, or reach world-famous Longwood Gardens in just minutes.

Surrounded by thoughtfully designed gardens, the Blue Lotus feels both connected and tucked away—a welcoming place for a weekend together, a solo retreat, business travel, or a longer stay.

GARDEN-INSPIRED COMFORT

Recently reimagined with deep, rich tones and layered textures, the cottage blends vintage and botanical details with everyday comfort. Ferns, flowers, birds, and woodland touches bring the garden’s character indoors.

The queen bedroom is a restful retreat with a fern-patterned duvet, vintage heron prints imported from Poland, floral vine bedside lamps, and a Williams Sonoma fern chandelier. Soft bedding and carefully chosen lighting create a peaceful atmosphere, and guests often tell us how comfortable the bed is and how well they sleep here.

A PLACE TO SETTLE IN

In the living area, a jewel-toned reading chair and flower-shaped ottoman invite you to curl up with a book. A large drum coffee table anchors the room, while an Anthropologie rug in chocolate and soft floral tones adds warmth underfoot. Framed mushroom artwork and other collected details give the space its own personality.

A convertible desk opens into a dining table for two, making room for breakfast, an evening meal, remote work, or planning the next day’s adventures. Reliable Wi-Fi helps you stay connected when you need to.

KITCHEN, BATH AND EVERYDAY CONVENIENCES

The kitchen features quartz countertops, shimmering blue glass subway tile, and stainless-steel appliances. It’s equipped for morning coffee, preparing meals, and enjoying a quiet evening in.

The bathroom includes a tiled shower with a glass enclosure and patterned flooring. A separate laundry room adds convenience, particularly for longer visits.

The cottage’s living spaces are all on one level, and dedicated off-street parking makes coming and going easy.

YOUR OUTDOOR RETREAT

Step outside to your private patio, where a table and umbrella create a comfortable setting for morning coffee, a leisurely lunch, or an evening beneath the trees.

There’s also a Solo Stove fire pit with two Adirondack chairs—a lovely spot to settle in after exploring Longwood Gardens, share a conversation, and enjoy a little more time outdoors.

KENNETT SQUARE AT YOUR OWN PACE

Walk into town for coffee, browse the shops, or enjoy dinner at a local restaurant before returning to the quiet of the cottage. Longwood Gardens is just minutes away, making the Blue Lotus a convenient home base for discovering the area.

Whether you’re here to explore, work, visit loved ones, or simply enjoy a change of pace, we hope you find the Blue Lotus as restful as it is welcoming—a place for unhurried mornings, comfortable evenings, and time to enjoy the little things.

About the host

Hosted by Joelle Waterkotte

Host profile image

We’re Joelle and Peter—hosts who genuinely love creating beautiful, welcoming spaces for others to enjoy. Hosting is something we’re deeply passionate about, and we approach it with the same care and attention to detail that we value when we travel ourselves.

Outside of hosting, we love being active and connected to nature. You’ll often find us hiking, kayaking, or out for long walks with our two Wheaten Terriers. We also enjoy quieter moments—reading, watching movies, and spending time with our family, especially our two grandchildren, who bring so much joy to our lives.

Professionally, we’re both in real estate, which naturally extends into our love for thoughtfully designed homes and meaningful spaces. Every property we host is personally curated—from the furnishings and artwork to the overall feel—so that it offers more than just a place to stay. Our goal is to create an experience that feels comfortable, inspiring, and a little bit special.

We’re hands-on owners who care deeply about our guests’ experience. While we respect your privacy and aim to make your stay seamless and easy, we’re always nearby and happy to help if needed.

Whether you’re here to relax, explore, or simply enjoy a change of pace, we hope your time here feels like a true retreat—and one you’ll want to return to.

Why they chose this property

We chose this location because it truly captures everything we love about Kennett Square. We’ve lived in the Kennett Square area for over 25 years, and for the past 10 years have called downtown home—so this neighborhood holds a special place in our lives.
There’s something about Kennett Square that’s hard to fully describe until you experience it. The town is vibrant and full of life, with wonderful restaurants, charming shops, and a true sense of community. At the same time, it’s surrounded by beautiful scenery—rolling landscapes, gardens, and peaceful natural spaces that create a calm, welcoming atmosphere.
What we love most is the balance. You’re just steps from the energy of town, yet the setting still feels quiet, tucked away, and connected to nature. The people are friendly, the pace is relaxed, and there’s an authenticity here that makes it easy to feel at home.
It’s a place we’ve chosen to stay for decades—and one we’re always excited to share with our guests.

What makes this property unique

The Blue Lotus offers a rare combination that’s hard to find in Kennett Square—you’re in the heart of downtown, yet it feels like a private retreat.

While most in-town stays come with noise, limited parking, or shared spaces, the Blue Lotus is tucked into a quiet, garden-surrounded setting that feels calm and secluded. Guests love that they can walk to restaurants, shops, and local attractions, then return to a peaceful, restorative space at the end of the day.

The cottage is also entirely one level, making it especially comfortable and easy for a wide range of guests—something that’s surprisingly uncommon in the area.

What truly makes it special, though, is the experience. The Blue Lotus has been thoughtfully designed as a boutique-style retreat, with curated interiors, rich colors, and nature-inspired details woven throughout. From the luxurious bedding to the carefully selected artwork and cozy seating areas, every element is intentional and layered to create a warm, memorable atmosphere.

You’ll also enjoy dedicated parking, private access, and a level of care and attention that reflects hands-on ownership. It’s not just a place to stay—it’s a space designed to feel personal, peaceful, and a little bit magical.
