The house was perfect and had all the amenities. The property is gorgeous. We also loved the quiet location and pool. Everything was very clean. Town was about 10-15 minutes away.
We had a wonderful stay-- the house is beautiful with tons of light on the main floor, a lovely pool, deck, yard and everything we needed for a glorious week in a magical corner of the state. It was delightful to just hang out on the property, but we also enjoyed several nearby adventures-- rafting on the Housatonic, driving/ hiking to the nearby sandy beach river bank, going for long bike rides in Kent and on the harlem valley rail trail, hikes along the river and AT, and enjoying some delicious meals at nearby restaurants. There are so many other local adventures that we weren't able to squeeze in, but the house is in a great location to experience it all! Thank you!
This house was perfect. Had everything we needed. Kent is a great town, the falls are cool. We spent all day in the pool, which was great and had great fires at night. Had tons of towels sheets, cooking equipment….we will def go back, amazing secluded getaway perfect from Westchester. And the owner is very nice and responsive, checked in w us while we there to see if we needed anything.
My 13 year old Daughter and our dog had such a lovely stay, the place is so beautiful quiet and very peaceful.
The owners were lovely, very helpful always checking in to making sure we were having a nice stay.
I would go back in a heartbeat.
We had a great time at Ruth’s house! It was a great space for families with kids and dogs. The house was very comfortable, the pool was super relaxing, and the nearby areas of Kent and Cornwall have cute towns and beautiful parks. Ruth was an excellent host and communicator. Would love to come back again!
What an open, hospitable space; interesting as a museum but comfortable for ages 2-70. Everything you can possibly think of is there - from soda stream to dog crate, to crib, swing, beautiful clean pool and deck, TVs, projector, grill, fire pit and more. The setting is quiet and stunning.
We love visiting Hudson valley area and staying at Cornwall Bridge property each year. We have been visiting this home for the past 8 yrs. So this house feels like our second home. We visit Macedonia Park, visit Kent Waterfalls etc. Thank you for sharing your warm and cozy home with us.
We have been visiting Cornwall Bridge for the last 7-8 yrs and always have a great time staying at this property.
The house had a "facelift" this year with lots of positive changes and improvements including new appliances, new mattresses etc.
The house was spotless and clean. Even our dog was excited staying at this property.
Thank you again for sharing your home with us. See you next year.
This house is beautiful and warm and is surrounded by a striking natural landscape. We enjoyed the proximity to skiing at Mohawk and the coziness of the Grand Room with its view of the river and large yard. You can tell her family actually uses the house and it's not just a rental as it has everything you could need. Ruth was very responsive to any questions we had. Highly recommend!
The house is gorgeous. Clean, slightly funky in the best way (colors, interesting art, amazing books on shelves, really interesting furniture). The pool is a gem. Everything is comfortable. Ruth responded to inquiries immediately. Beds were super-comfortable. Everything was pleasing and relaxing and stimulating. View off of back deck is other-worldly gorgeous.
Our group of 4 adults stayed at Ruth's house for 3 nights. With the heavy rain and snow keeping us mostly indoor for our stay we got to enjoy the house's open space, cozy fireplace and well-equipped kitchen. The area is quiet and the view of the river is amazing. The house is close to the beautiful Kent Falls and its charming town, an orchard and many good trails, parks. Communication with the host and check-in/out were smooth and she promptly addressed all our questions. I would definitely stay there again, hopefully when the weather is warmer so we can get a chance to enjoy the pool! Thanks Ruth!

Thank you guys...When you come back I will fix the wether.. (smile)
This property was ideal for some much needed rest and relaxation. Quiet! However, the linens provided were filled with holes. Upon stripping the bed found a gross stained mattress cover (blood and other unknowns). Definitely a turn off. Would book again but the place needs a little TLC.

That is very odd since my house keeper is meticulous
This property is fantastic. It is tucked away, off the main road, in a perfect nook of CT - Cornwall Bridge - with a home, pool and everything else you'll need for a killer family/friends trip. Our family of 4 plus pup brought kayaks intending to hit some of our favorite lakes but with the pool we never left the property!
Lots of open space inside for eating, conversation, playing games. Aesthetic is kinda industrial meets shabby chic...a trendy 3 bedroom Tribeca loft, spiral staircase included, on the hillside banks of a beautiful river.
Here are just some of the things we did in our week-long stay here...
Pool, pool, pool!
Frisbee tosses in the yard with Cookie
Started up the Fire Pit and made S'mores in yard at night
Swung from a swing suspended from a 100-year-old tree.
Coffee on the terrace overlooking the Housatonic River
Enjoyed bees, birds & butterflies in the beautiful gardens
Watch Olympics/Play games in the lower level living room
Cooked and ate a big communal dinner with friends
Rocked in a rocking chair (covered) while enjoying an amazing downpour into the woods and river.
We did leave a few times...to get food, thrifting/shopping, grab coffee, get ice cream, enjoy top-notch breakfast sandwiches from Wilson's and JP Gifford in Kent, get more ice cream (Fudgie's and Arethusa). Kent Falls is down the road. Kent Package Store too, for local brews and wine. It was like staying at an old friend's place! We loved it and hope to be back!!!

Dormitory in beautiful setting
First, let me say the location and views were beautiful. We enjoyed the deer and chipmunks as well as the birds and starry night skies. The property is far off the road and was very quiet. The pool was great for those hot afternoons. The kitchen was well stocked with necessary pantry items.
The problem is the property is not well maintained. There were multiple plumbing issues and the overall feel was run down and dirty. Spiders have taken over the exterior and webs were all over the windows. The furniture is stained, worn, and uncomfortable. There is no TV in the living room; the black orb of a fireplace is the focal point and completely in the way. There is no art on the walls anywhere except for a moldy photo in the basement bathroom. The owner has her junk all over, on the desk, in the medicine cabinet and stuffed into the linen cabinet shelves. The curtains in the bedroom and downstairs bathroom are mismatched and look like sheets hanging on warped rods. Towels are old and stained. The beds are futons and not very comfortable.
The outdoor furniture was no better. Rusted through chairs surround the poolside table.
We were stuck here for 4 weeks, next year I will research better.

Whatever you do, don’t rent your property to these people. They are disrespectful and lied to me about the fact that they had driven up from Florida to CT when Covid was exploding in Florida which had spooked all of the people who worked on the house. They were inconsiderate to all of the kind people and vendors who service the house to point where they refused to go to the house during their stay...which was why the house could not be tended to in it normal way. For example, when I tried to get a plumber over there to fix a toilet seat that said was cracked, they tried to keep the plumber from entering the house. Both the cleaning person and the handyman said that the wouldn’t do their normal chores during their stay. They lied about how many people were using the house. They represented an aesthetic that was totally incompatible with local aesthetic. And their behavior was rude and antithetical to the area...look at the other reviews of the house and you can see the differences in behavior.
The house not was not cleaned prior to our arrival. The kitchen was filthy. There were a lot of mouse droppings in the kichen - a pile. There were dead insects and grease above the stove - hanging over the stove from the fan above. The silverware and pots and pans were literally thrown in to the drawers and the drawers as well as contents were filthy. The Keurig did not work. I heard at night what sounded like animals running in the ceiling. There was a live mouse in the kitchen. There were spider webs all over the windows and the ceiling. The refrigerator and freezer were not cold enough. There were ants in the refrigerator when I arrived. I had to throw out the contents of the freezer because they defrosted. The pool gate would not shut. You couldn't reach the hose handle because it was deep in the bushes. The balcony with the grill was not as pictured. It is actually green all over the cement and there was a food container covered in mold on it and the grill was also filthy. Towels were old and had holes. You also have to take to gargage to the dump which is only open on certain days. I sent this information with pictures/videos to Vrbo. The host sent a handyman and cleaners who fixed some of the issues but she stopped responding to my emails and many issues were never addressed.
Beware -- this house is not as advertised. Among its many flaws are mice, ants, a fridge that doesn't stay cold, a broken stove and oven, dirty mattresses and pads, cobwebs everywhere, lights not working, and an owner in denial of the problems with the property. Cons include:
- We found mouse droppings in the kitchen when we checked in. We then saw fresh mouse droppings in the kitchen every morning during our stay.
- After our food spoiled within one day, we bought appliance thermometers and found the fridge at 50 degrees and the freezer at 30 degrees.
- Only one of the stove burners lit and the oven was filthy and caked with grease.
- There were ants in the kitchen.
- The mattress pads were filthy and stained.
- People with children should note that only 2 bedrooms are on the main floor and one is in the basement. The basement bedroom featured a full bath (tub not shower) and a bare light bulb in a lamp. The half bath was also in the basement and did not have working lights during our stay. Many light bulbs were out throughout the house.
- The listing photos are very outdated, from furniture to landscaping to overall upkeep. There are cobwebs everywhere and the landscaping is completely overgrown. There was hair in the shower, the fridge had spills and stains on shelves, and the window screens are torn or missing throughout the house.
- Also note that you must take your trash to the dump, which is about 10 minutes away. The dump is open three days a week.
- We emailed the owner with concerns while we were there and she did not respond to us. When we tried calling her, she was rude and hung up on us.
The pros are the pool (chlorine, not saltwater according to the pool guy who maintains it), the beautiful location, and the freight train which is fun to watch in the early mornings.
We do not recommend this house to anyone and will not stay in it again.
A recent email from VRBO asked if we were happy with our stay. Actually we were anything but. We have come to expect a certain level of comfort and attention to detail in our VRBO stays. This was disappointing on both levels. We had picked this place for a family gathering around a memorial service for our daughter. When we arrived on Saturday, we were met by a place that was so lacking on both levels, we wanted to turn around and go home. However we had a large group of family members arriving after the service to be held on Sunday.
Firstly it was very difficult to find the house. We had to spend the first hour of our supposed stay looking for someone who could direct us to the turn off to the house which is not clearly marked. It was so troublesome for us that, soon after arriving, we drove ten miles to the nearest town to find temporary signage that would help our guests identify the turn into the property. A caring owner would have been much more upfront about how hard the house is to find and advised us to download directions since we would lose gps on the way. .
On arrival the first thing that we noticed was a distinct odor of mustiness as we entered the house. The odor remained for our stay, and raised concerns for our family's health. Things got progressively worse. The kitchen was filthy. There were mouse droppings in an open container on a shelf. There were scores of dead insects stuck to the grease on the stove hood, only two of the four burners were functional and the stovetop was marked with grease stains . The oven was not clean and unuseable. The coffee maker and pot were black with coffee oils and stains and the advertised Keurig did not function. All this made taking care of our guests very difficult. Compared to our previous VRBO stays, the state of this kitchen was despicable.
The advertised cell service and internet connection was intermediate and weak. The upholstery and 2 area rugs on a concrete poured floor clearly hadn’t been cleaned in a long time. The entire place was dark. Many lights failed to work throughout the house. The bedroom door was damaged, needed painting, and failed to close properly. There were no closets or dressers in which to store clothes, just an organizer bag hanging from a rod along with a few hangers.
We understand a funky aesthetic and can appreciate it when done well. But this was insulting. It wasn’t sanitary or comfortable. We may have to rethink our choice of VRBO fo

It took this renter three hours to find a house that is at the juncture Of 2 highways And they left the house a mess
HIDDEN GEM IN THE WOODS OVERLOOKING THE HOUSATONIC. AWESOME RADIANT HEATING SYSTEM MADE WINTER CHILL DISAPPEAR. LOVELY OPEN LAYOUT MADE ENTERTAINING SO MUCH FUN.
Ruth's scenic home provided a wonderful Thanksgiving experience for my family and I. Waking up to the Housatonic river made for a peaceful stay. All of the included amenities made our stay very comfortable having everything needed at hand. I would highly recommend Ruth's place for a fun comfortable getaway.
Pros:
- exceptionally beautiful property with privacy and wonderful views
- saltwater pool was perfect and such a treat
- lots of room for families to spread out
- great amenities for kids/families
- location is great; secluded but still close to civilization
Cons:
- could have been a lot cleaner (dust/cobwebs, showers, etc.), especially considering the cleaning fee. Ants were present in kitchen when we arrived.
- food scattered on front deck and trash stuck behind grill on back deck when we arrived. Had to do a fair bit of sweeping up.
- A/C was not working for first half of our stay. Luckily, the weather cooled off significantly for the second half
- very difficult to find, especially in the dark. Signage could be much improved.
- short on some of the supplies you come to expect from rental homes (hand soap in every bathroom, plenty of toilet paper, etc.)
