When I say this is the worst guest I have ever had in more than a decade of hosting, I am not exaggerating. I have seen photos of roaches before and they are never that clear - I am still convinced that it was the same dead roach repositioned throughout the kitchen for photos which is why I asked. I immediately offered her either a partial refund or a full refund if she wanted to cancel and move to a different location because I had indeed had a prior guest refuse the preventative pest treatment. She refused. She just wanted a full refund and a free vacation. Labor Day is hurricane season in St. A and there is plenty of availability so that’s not a valid reason to not take my offer. Her husband then proceeded to charge up over $100 in pay per view movies (my bad for not password protecting that I suppose but I generally assume basic decorum in guests). Even though I had already refunded about 70% of her stay and not cancelled their reservation, she refused to pay for the movies. So this guest almost actually cost me money to host her and also left a one star review. Fortunately most of my guests are delightful which keeps me renting out our vacation home while we’re not using it, but it’s guests like these that make me reconsider that.
