Cul-de-Shack 3BR House@1BlkBeach. Great for families or a few couples who want to be close to beach & easy walk to downtown Folly but far enough away so you don’t hear the bars and bands. Located @ end of cul-de-sac quiet neighborhood adjacent to a kiddie playground. Back yard easy access to playground or 1 block to beach. Open floor plan inside vaulted ceilings spacious 3BR feels bigger than it is. 2 Decks outdoor space 1 is screened. Very private back yard & outdoor shower. New HVAC.

Welcome to Cul-de –Shack, our newest beachside rental here on Folly Beach. You’ll love this open floor plan 3BR / 2ba home. From here you are a quick 2 minute walk to the beach and you can hear the ocean waves off the back porch decks. Center Street-- where all the Folly Beach restaurants and shops are-- is just 5 blocks away. So you are close enough to walk, but far enough away to NOT HEAR the bars and the bands. The house is Located on a cul de sac at the end of a quiet residential street , and like many island homes is up on stilts with mature oak trees and palm trees all around so you can channel your tree fort days as a kid.
West Beach Court is a dead end street, and -not a through street like many on Folly so there is very little traffic. Although the neighborhood is not private it feels that way….And huge bonus…. the entire street was paved in Spring 2023 so it’s a smooth ride in your car or your bikes. The new paving also makes for better dribbling at the neighborhood basketball hoop at the end of your driveway If you bring the kids they will thank you as the fully fenced back yard abuts a real live PLAYGROUND. Yep, it’s one of two kiddie playgrounds on Folly Beach. And the vacation mayhem is right beyond your fence providing another theater of operations outside of the beach for your little monsters to run wild. If you don’t bring the kids then know that its super quiet at night since there is nobody in the playground. Either way, everybody will sleep great in this quiet little slice of Folly.
The huge driveway and undercarriage can hold 4 cars easily and the neighborhood is one of the few sections of Folly outside of Center Street that has City of Folly Beach sewer service…. Why is this not-so-pleasant factoid important you ask? Well, many of the rental properties on Folly have delicate septic systems. So combine the big pipes of City Sewer with the brand new Tankless hot water system, and new washer / dryer in house and you have unlimited capacity for poop and laundry!!

Inside, the house plays bigger than its 1800 sq ft with an open floor plan, vaulted ceilings and counter seating in the kitchen. The décor is light and bright with the blond hardwood floors adding durability to your stay. Plantation shutters brings a Southern Charm, and you’ll love the fully loaded kitchen and dine up bar for entertaining. Newer stainless appliances and a brand new ice maker sets you up for the many chill drinks you will be making to beat the Carolina heat. The dining room is the pivot point of the house with a huge 400lb handcrafted rustic dining table made of decades-old reclaimed solid wood that took 4 dudes to carry up the stairs. It puts the heavy in your duty here at Cul de Shack!. And to lighten things up right next to it within easy reach is a dedicated wine fridge. Living room has 60” TV and is hung over the gas log fireplace which you can fire up for ambiance at any time. And, just off your main living space are TWO outside entertaining options – a fully screened porch if you prefer that but also an open air outdoor deck with gas grill for your locally caught shrimp on the Barbie. And from both you can hear the ocean waves in the distance.

Your bedroom lineup is pretty versatile. Main floor off of the Living Room you have a full bed with ensuite full bath, and upstairs the master suite kicks ass with a king bed, walk in closet, and Mini deck with French doors looking into the trees and houses beyond. And maybe if the leaves and wind are right you'll get a peek -a-boo view of the Atlantic between the 2 roofs in the distance. Though rest assured you can hear it even if you can’t see it—making for some serious slumber. An oversized bathroom is ensuite but is shared with the bunk room that sports a Full size mattress bunk set up and 2 twin beds in a trundle style. With this room you can have plenty of room as a romantic couple, or pack the kids all in one “situation room.” Just outside the bedrooms at the top of the stairs is a balcony work desk space with full Wifi and Ethernet hook up.

Other house amenities include new dual zone HVAC system installed April 2023 so you can reliably crank the AC on the hottest of humid days we get down south in July and August. Under the house there is a hot and cold outdoor shower to wash away the sea and salt of the day. And a Bowflex home gym with dumbbells in case you want to get pumped up before tossing the corn hole bags in the custom set provided. We got you fully covered for beach action with beach chairs, a beach wagon, and beach towels too. The back yard is spacious and instead of grass you have the cushiony wood chips making for resilient play surface for the kids, or a soft landing if you get too wasted and can’t make it to the house. Since it gets sun and shade all day you can find some comfort for all of the different folks in your tribe… And as mentioned above, right through a gate in your private yard is the entrance to Wave Watch Playground and a path to the beach access.

It’s only fitting as this is our FIRST Folly Beach property to be on the coveted City sewer system that we celebrate a bunch of other FIRSTS. For you see the owner, Mark is my oldest friend from growing up in Boston--all the way back to 4th grade little league--and we shared a lot of FIRSTS together in our teenage years. I like to think he and his wife Missy came to live on Folly because of me but it was their daughter going to College of Charleston that brought them to the area. They stayed at many of our Shacks over the years before finally buying down here, and we are grateful they asked us to manage their place. In fact one of their daughters is featured in many of our RatherShacks promo videos. So here we are-- after 40 years--- me and my oldest Homie living again within a bike ride distance of each other, just like when we were kids. And with the scorecard of “firsts” we logged together the last time we lived in such close proximity reading like a Juvi wrap sheet we made a pact with our wives to BEHAVE down here on Folly.
So…what exactly were the “firsts” that Mark and I assembled together during our teenage years? Stories for another day when the cooler is full, but here are the highlights: First time drunk, check. First time stoned, check. First time ever seeing real live female breasts outside of a magazine, check. And the topper… First time getting arrested, CHECK. YEP, he was right there with me for all of ‘em. And the actual arrest charges ? Nothing violent I assure you, just a couple of 16 year olds skipping school and getting drunk and disorderly in a mall parking lot at 9am right across the street from a donut shop where all the town cops hang out. At some point in your life you have to make your “worst decision ever,” and Mark and I nailed it together in our sophomore year of high school. As we like to say we’ve been to war together and back, and in a way we have. With such history it’s no wonder I take the care and feeding of his house personally, and hope that you will enjoy and respect it as well.
Come create your own “firsts “ here on Folly by booking a stay at Cul-de-Shack…just please make sure they’re not the kind that end up with blue flashing lights and handcuffs.

And now for the legal –type stuff: The home is located in a quiet residential section of Folly Beach and we do not allow parties or events. Folly has strict noise ordinance rules and is really cracking down with fines. So you if you want a house party don’t book here. Residential District QUIET HOURS are from 10pm-9am with no loud voices or amplified music inside or out. Cul-de-Shack is strictly NON SMOKING and allows a maximum of 8 guests with 4 off-street parking spaces. Pets are NOT ALLOWED. We require all guests to sign our standard 2-Page South Carolina Short Term Rental Agreement which includes all the house and Folly Beach rules. We strongly recommend guests purchase TRIP INSURANCE which can protect you from last minute travel changes due to health, family, weather, or employment issues..…Hope to see you here soon!
