The Sea Palm, A Coastal Cottage Steps From The Beach!!!

This seaside retreat is owned by The Purgason family since 1972, when first built. The home offers a large front porch accessed by sliders from the living area and both front bedrooms. The back porch is a shady morning spot perfect for coffee. To top it off, the "Widows Walk" (rooftop deck) offers surround views of the ocean, marsh and island community with seating for all to enjoy. Perfect spot to catch spectacular sunsets the island is named for. Porches include swings, rockers and comfortable seating. Exterior is landscaped with palm trees and white sand. Ample parking! There are two exterior sand showers, one private and one to knock off sand and beach equipment from a long day at the beach. A large rear grilling deck with oversized casual dining table and plenty of seats—a fun spot for eating watermelons. Two grills are available, take your pick of gas or charcoal. Napping hammock in a shady spot that captures the perfect ocean breeze. Back yard with sodded grass, perfect play area for kids. Rare concrete driveway perfect for basketball, chalk drawing, jumping rope, skating.....The family's collection of sea shells has been used in the interior staging and exterior landscaping. The special shells have been collected by grandchildren and family members over the years.

Interiors offer refinement without sacrificing the relaxing beach-comber style of living. The family's collection of shells displayed throughout the cottage are treasures discovered by the oldest and youngest family members. Flat TV screens are in each bedroom as well as in the open concept Great Room. The Kitchen is well stocked for waffles with strawberries in the morning and daiquiris in the afternoon! Bar seating and a butterfly leaf expandable dining table add to the ease of sharing meal Prepping. Shutters are in all bedrooms and provide stylish privacy.

The Sea Palm is a colorful cottage with plenty of beach chairs, beach games, umbrella and coolers. We provide the beach equipment - You tote there, you tote back!!!

The SeaPalm is an easy stroll to and from the beach, pier and island market. Y'all come!

Absolutely LOVE the Sea Palm, and have already booked for next year. You will relax as soon as you arrive, the coastal vibe and comfortable decor is exactly what we love for our vacation on Sunset Beach! And short walk across the street to the beach access, plenty of parking. Roger is accessible and responsive, always communicates ahead of time everything we need to know. Arrival access is simple and easy, all I will say is book now!!

Ideal beach house for a relaxing trip!

The location was ideal for a fun and relaxing trip for a family. It was maybe a 3-4 minute walk to the beach, even with a toddler. That made it possible to go back and forth to the house easily for food/restroom breaks! There were so many games and toys to entertain us while we were taking a break from the beach. The fully stocked kitchen and grills made it convenient to have family meals at the house if our little ones were too rambunctious for a restaurant. There were multiple outdoor shower stations to rinse off after being at the beach, which helped limit the amount of sand that we brought home with us. This home made all the difference when it came to having a great trip to sunset beach, we can’t wait until next summer!

Only Regret is Not Staying Longer

Super close to the beach!

Loved our stay, house was clean and as described. We have a toddler and the patios were all gated which saved us many temper tantrums. Beach access is EXTREMELY close, and the provided beach equipment made everything more convenient. Highly recommend!

We really appreciate the personal communication, notification by phone when the space was ready for us, and a check in from the person cleaning the place at the end of our stay to make sure our stay had gone well. We really love how equipped this home is for our beach stay.

Exactly what we were looking for

We loved everything about our stay at the Sea Palm and we could not have had a better week. The beach is very close and everyone we interacted with showcased southern hospitality. The amenities that we enjoyed are too numerous to list, but first to mind are the widow's watch and hammock. Beautiful home

The house was beautiful the beach was just a small walk away and a easy walk to the small shops in town. Only problem we had was the neighbors filled our trash cans up so full we had to take a bag with us to throw away but that was on the neighbors no one else. Hope to get to come back again next year!!!

We’ll be back!

Roger was very communicative and helpful from booking through the end of the stay. The Sea Palm had everything our family needed for a week at the beach - a well stocked kitchen with appliances that were in great functioning condition was very important for eating in. The organized outdoor space and showers made coming and going to and from the beach a breeze with 3 small children in tow. They really loved the ‘foot shower’. We loved the porch swings on every porch for morning coffee and an evening glass of wine and having an outdoor table for lunch between morning and afternoon beach sessions. We’ve booked again for next year!

Great beach house

We have vacationed at Sunset Beach for over 25 years and love this island. We have stayed in several houses over the years. This is a great vacation home. Pros: Quick walk to the beach. Great outdoor spaces with lots of seating. Front deck, back deck, under the house, and top deck! 3 porch swings, a hammock, rocking chairs. My daughter and I spent several afternoons reading in the hammock. Grassy area out back with new string lights. Great place to play corn hole! Plenty of NICE beach chairs. Plenty of beach games, umbrellas, small coolers to tote to the beach, surfboards, skim board. Small deck with picnic table and grill. Outdoor shower with room for changing. LOVE an outdoor shower! Comfortable beds. Updated bathrooms. Plenty of flatware dishes, and kitchen appliances. (could use another small skillet) Cons: Living room furniture is not great. Vinyl couch that is not very comfortable and sticks to bare skin when wearing shorts - though I imagine it is easier to clean than fabric! Bathrooms and kitchen were clean, but noticed glass ring on an end table and some dishes had some residue. Not deal breakers by any means, just noted. Previous renters had broken the stovetop. Not the owners fault at all - accidents happen and we were well-informed prior to our arrival. We were still able to use stovetop - just not the largest burner. Icemaker in door doesn't work and icemaker in freezer didn't appear to be making ice, so we had to buy a bag of ice. Overall really enjoyed our stay and look forward to going back. Owner is very responsive to questions/needs and obviously has put a lot of thought into trying to make your stay at the beach a fun one!

Great beach house

Loved our week at Sunset in this cute beach house. We have vacationed at Sunset for over 25 years and stayed in a few houses nearby, but our 1st stay in Sea Palm. Owner is very responsive with questions and has thought of so many amenities that made our stay enjoyable. We love an outdoor shower and this house has 2. One enclosed, and one open for just rinsing off. My daughter loved the open one for rinsing off before coming in for lunch. Many of us never showered in the house - only used the enclosed outdoor shower- which also has space for changing. Several of us enjoyed lounging in the hammock under the house. It is in the shade all day and was so relaxing swinging in the beach breezes. May or may not have inspired a little napping. ;) There are so many wonderful outdoor spaces for sitting - top deck that has great views of the island, sunsets, and a peek at the ocean; front and back deck with comfortable seating and porch swings to enjoy. We were grateful for really nice, numerous beach chairs as 3 people in our party had forgotten theirs! Also grateful there was a working beach umbrella to use as we lost our canopy to high winds on day 2 of our stay! There were 2 other umbrellas, but one didn't have a base and the other wouldn't stay in the sand and we couldn't get it to click open - I think it was too heavy or too windy. ?? There were also sand toys, a skim-board, surf boards and boogie boards. The kitchen is very well stocked with plenty of dishes and cooking utensils, pots/pans. We did have to buy a bag of ice as the icemaker wasn't keeping up with us. The beds were very comfortable and provided for great sleep after long days of walking, biking, and riding waves. Only cons: the living room couch and chairs and the dining chairs were not that comfortable. We really enjoyed our week and look forward to returning!

Anfitrión: Roger Purgason

The Purgason family built this home in 1972 when there were very few houses on the island, all the roads were sand, and the only access was by a one lane swing bridge!
WR and Paulette had one son, Roger, who spent many hours playing in the sand dunes on either side, where newer homes now sit. He and his wife, Joanna, and their three children, Cade, Taylor and Kaylie, now enjoy making memories with family and friends at the Sea Palm, and look forward to each visit!

Por qué eligió esta propiedad

Sunset Beach has definitely grown since this home was built, there are now very few empty lots, and we have easy access to the island via a large span bridge, but it has kept its slow, quiet pace. Sunset is a very family friendly island. The beach is nice and wide, without drop-offs in the sand while swimming. At low tide, many days there are great tide pools, and even at high tide there is plenty of beach to share. The sand dunes seem to grow every year, and the boardwalks at each beach access are well maintained to make it easy to get there. Be prepared for some steps at the access at 35th street to cross the dunes, but there are ramps for beach access at the pier and at 40th street to make access easier for bikes and strollers.

The West end of Sunset beach is a great spot to catch sunsets in the evening. At the end of 40th street, the view stretches out over the marsh and is simply stunning.
While walking the beach past 40th street, it runs into Bird Island, a sanctuary for birds and turtles alike. Many mornings, you will find new turtle nests being staked, and a lucky few have caught the babies spilling out.
Sunset Beach is famous for its Kindred Spirit Mailbox, its a good ways onto Bird Island, tucked in the dunes. Plan to spend some time on one of the benches reading and recording your own thoughts.
Sunday morning church services are offered all summer at the pier. Its one of our family's favorite traditions, to worship on the sand at Easter.
We could go on and on about the reasons to love this island, we hope you will find a few of your own and tell us about them!
