The Stonehouse Loft is a brand new building, built from the ground up in 2015. Designed by your host, with plans drawn by Jess Wilton, a great local Durango architect, it was built by people (your host again!) and for people who love modern design. The Loft features radiant heated concrete floors throughout, and a modern, bright, but cozy vibe. Located a half block off of Main Avenue in downtown Durango, you can walk to all the shops, restaurants, galleries and bars in minutes from this centrally located apartment. A king size bed, lovely shower and bathroom, and well equipped kitchen provide you with the comforts and conveniences of home. Close to mountain biking, hiking, the river and the Durango Silverton Narrow gauge railway. This property puts you close to everything Durango has to offer. This is a wonderful place to stay. You can walk to the restaurants and shops. There are concerts in the park that is right across the street or listen from the porch. .

Could not have asked for a better home base for a solo week in Durango! This place is clean, beautifully furnished, and in the most convenient location possible to explore all that downtown has to offer. I walked to cafes every morning (Durango Coffee, Blue Wing, Cafe Hermosa, Bread) and dinner most evenings - I especially enjoyed 11th Street Station, Carver Brewing, and Taco Libre. You can hear and see the Durango & Silvertrain train go by a couple blocks away, and you can walk through quiet neighborhoods to hike up the Sky Steps and around Fort Lewis College. The outdoor courtyard shared with the other unit is a lovely little retreat. Note there is no TV (which I didn't need) and no microwave (which was a bit of a surprise, as I sometimes like to reheat things especially when cooking for one). And yes the parking space is small! 100% will be back!

We felt like we were living like rock stars during our four nights at George's place in Durango! We were first welcomed with a lovely bottle of wine for our vacation celebration.Splendid and spotless accommodations with absolutely gorgeous furniture and amenities! It was also within walking distance to cool restaurants and shops, in addition to being close to all the towns we explored during our trip!A truly amazing experience that we would highly recommend!

I selfishly wanted to write a bad review to discourage others from finding out about this rental, but cannot lie, our stay exceeded all expectations. George's place is a modern, architecturally-appealing loft, spacious, exceptionally clean, private, and very centrally located just a block off Main, on a quiet street directly across from Buckley Park. Pride of ownership is evident. Walkable to all of downtown Durango & the river path, and as an added bonus we were able to watch 4th of July weekend festivities & concerts in the park from the elevated backyard deck. We thoroughly enjoyed our vacation in Durango, and just hope this house doesn't get too 'discovered'/will be available to book on our next visit. Thank you George for your gracious hospitality!

I moved to Durango right out of high school in 1991. I waited tables at a restaurant for three months before deciding I needed to do more. I went to college, and then lived and worked in NYC for twenty years before finally making it back to Durango in 2010.
I'm an Artist, and a builder, and the Stonehouse Loft gave me the opportunity to bring these two skills together. The Loft is a completely new building which I built from the ground up to be a modern, comfortable and convenient downtown hideaway. I love mountain biking on the trails around town, hiking, backpacking, rafting, and exploring the deserts and mountains with my partner Amber Johnson, a Durango Native (that rare breed!) that i'm lucky enough to share my adventures with.

The Stonehouse Loft is a unique downtown property that is super close to Main Street, but provides a remarkable feeling of seclusion, even in the heart of busy downtown Durango. The Stonehouse Loft is a brand new, energy efficient and modern building with radiant heat, on demand hot water, huge windows with abundant natural light, and an open airy feel. There is a large private patio and garden, which is tucked away behind a fence and deck, but that offers views of the large trees in Buckley Park, right across the street. From the Stonehouse Studio you can walk anywhere you might want to go in downtown Durango. All the best restaurants and shops, galleries, bars and grocery stores are just minutes away on foot. All of the Mountain Biking Trailheads are easily accessed from downtown, and are there are literally hundreds of miles of trails you can access directly from the driveway in just a few minutes ride.
