The cottage was exactly how it was described/depicted; it is thoughtfully and beautifully appointed. The bed is very comfortable. The cottage is separated from the main house, so very private. Perfect for a couple's get-away. Barbara's communications were prompt and friendly.

Wonderful week in MV! The cottage had everything we needed and was a great location to bike into town or to the beach. Would love to come back and stay again!

Great Stay

We had a fantastic stay at the idle house. Great communication with owners, clean home and easy access to the entire island! Looking forward to next year’s visit.

Home away from home

Our stay was very relaxing, peaceful, felt like an extension of being home.The host was most gracious and very responsive!

This was my second stay at the IDLE HOUR Cottage, and it could not have been more perfect. Barbara is an excellent host, and we have enjoyed may upgrades to the property from last season. They thought everything, from the picnic basket and beach towels, to the beautiful barware and art. We are already looking forward to coming back!

Our stay was wonderful.

The cottage was close enough to Edgartown to walk each morning into town for coffee/breakfast but out far enough to relax and enjoy the quiet and beauty of Edgartown. We highly recommend this darling cottage for your next stay in Martha’s Vineyard. Barbara was wonderful to work with!

Incredible cottage with every amenity you could possibly need. Barbara was a fast communicator (and so lovely!). The cottage is walking distance to town and a leisurely walk to the beach. HIGHLY recommend this stay!

First time at the Vineyard

The property is a described and show in the picture. Perfect for a long weekend. My wife and I loved how it was set in the back of the property and private. It had everything we needed. Would stay here again for sure.

Nothing short of perfect

The accommodations were in the perfect spot in town and on property - even more lovely in person than depicted online. Our hostess was exceptionally welcoming and kind, which made it all that much better. We will be back!

Wonderful Summer Days at Idle Hour!

Our time at Idle Hour Cottage was delightful! Barbara's warm and caring personality made us feel welcomed. From condiments to decor she thought of every detail to make our stay relaxed and comfortable. We loved Idle Hour Cottage and know you will too!

Perfect cottage to spend our Anniversary!!

This cottage has it all! Private setting, beautifully decorated, and the location can’t be beat! Bring your bikes and the beach and town are a short bike ride on the bike bath! Barbara was the perfect host. Gave us great recommendations for our stay! Beautiful rental and we are looking forward to returning next year!

Wonderful

I thoroughly enjoyed my stay at this quaint cottage. The photos are accurate. Communication with the owner was great from booking through departure and even after when I was contacted about an item accidentally left behind. Wonderful overall experience!

The cottage was lovely and as pictured in the VRBO listing. It is perfectly located between town and the beach. You can walk either direction out of the cottage and catch a free bus into town or to South Beach, on Katama or Herring Creek. The bus can be tracked on the QR code on the VTA map. All is also walking or biking distance if you wish. We would love to stay here again next year.

Every Comfort Considered

This very well-appointed 1-bedroom cottage is the perfect setting for a Martha’s Vineyard stay. The location provides easy access (with a car) to Oak Bluffs and Vineyard Haven. Edgartown is easily bikeable. The cottage is clean and super-comfortable so it’s a pleasure to stay in and enjoy the small deck, patio and lounge chairs too.

A Magical Island Vacation

Our stay at the Edgartown Cottage was just perfect. Barbara was a communicative and attentive host. The cottage was beautiful decorated and had everything we needed - freshly pressed robes, soft towels and a beach picnic basket. The cottage was located within walking distance to town and the beach. We so enjoyed exploring during the day and coming back to a beautiful home at night. We cannot wait to return next season.

A relaxing haven close to South Beach and Edgartown

From our initial contact Barbara was an extremely responsive, warm and wonderful hostess even helping us secure ferry tickets. The light filled cottage is ideally situated an equidistant 5 minute drive between magnificent South Beach and charming Edgartown. We enjoyed exploring the island by day and returning to the serene and relaxing cottage by night.The kitchen is well stocked with pots, pans etc as is the bathroom.

Perfection

I only write reviews if my expectations, which are high, are exceeded. My time at the cottage was nothing short of glorious. Having rented for over 30 years, this cottage is one of the best. It has location, comfort, amenities and those little touches that make you feel as if you are home. Barbara, the host, is wonderful, generous, is there when you need her but never, ever intrusive. The entire experience was wonderful. I highly recommend.

Quiet, Clean, Great owner

First the owner is a gem, she cared about our stay and paid particular attention to us. The cottage is isolated in the bag of the property and it is quiet around. There are a bunch of extras there that you might not get at another property. You just need to bring yourself, clothes and a toothbrush. It is conveniently located, away from Edgartown. About a mile out of town. If you rent a bike you can get in easily but we just drove around and there was plenty of parking. Don't be concerned there are not a lot of reviews. She just put this on VRBO last year and hasn't had a lot of renters. You can't find a better owner.

Perfect Cottage for Two

This is a lovely cottage in a convenient location. Charming decor, quiet, and in perfect condition. Along with the inside of the cottage, the outside deck was comfortably furnished. Barbara, the owner, was very helpful.

Katama

Is a very beautiful property. It is private and functional. It is close to town ,beaches, and all the restaurants. The owner has been very helpful the two times that we have stayed there. We do plan to come again.

Perfect charming cottage

We loved our stay at this beautifully designed, completely charming and overall sweet cottage. From the dishes to the shampoo, to the martini bar to the lux lounges - everything was lovely.

Simply fabulous!!

There are SO MANY positives about Barbara's cottage in Katama/Edgartown that it will be effortless to summarize. Newly refurbished, the cottage is a gem that is ideally situated between South Beach (5 min. drive) and Edgartown (5 min. drive/25 in. walk). Everything is high-end and well-thought-out from the privacy of its location from the main house to its private deck patio to all of the fabulous amenities (beautiful outdoor furniture, dishes, pots/pans, a fully stocked bar, shampoo/conditioner, bath robes, NetFlix, etc.). Honestly, it has everything a hotel offers and so much more. BUT, the very best amenity is the OWNER herself. Barbara is a pleasure to have as a host, guide, concierge, etc. Her communication before and during our stay was so appreciated. As a veteran of private rentals, THIS location is in my very top tier and I would highly recommend it for a two-person stay. Simply fabulous.
