Great clean cottage close to the beach!

Loved this cottage! It was exactly as described, close to the beach and walking distance to shopping and restaurants. We rented bikes at Newport Pier, about 4 blocks from the house. They do have a small garage but we parked on the street. My husband and I stayed with our 2 teenage kids.

Perfect Location & Great Value

After we booked this property, Kristin contacted us directly to give us all the info we needed. We scheduled our arrival and were allowed to come a little early which was nice. The Location Is Great. A short walk to everything. House was clean, and we will definitely come back in the future.

Great location, workable but not ideal accommodations.

If it had been cleaned well--including sweeping the dust and sand and grime and grossness from pretty much every corner of the place, I'd bump the overall rating up from 2 stars to three 3 stars compared to the 10-15 other beach houses between 25th and 32nd street in which we've stayed over the past 40 years. The layout is just really awkward, with a single bathroom at the center of the house (with no windows or fans or ventilation). Master bedroom needs a smaller bed...just too narrow for the king. Light bulbs all need replacing to calming tones and dimmable switches, instead of surgical grade bright white. One socket was actually sparking when jostled so we had to unplug everything from that and move the TV at the owner's suggestion (no electrician ever showed up however). Garage is so so so small and narrow. I mean, it's a parking spot, but don't plan on getting bikes in and out if you have a car there. The access to the back alley/garage/garbages is very poor. You can access it through a narrow and spider-webby accessway or you can walk around the corner and access it from Balboa Blvd. Toaster is broken....stuck on bagel setting, so your toast will be bad. Kitchen doesn't have nearly enough dinnerware, other than cups...it has a ton of cups. Kitchen is also so narrow as to make it almost impossible to use. All that said: Pros are the location. Can't beat the location in terms of access to the beach, grocery store, some restaurants, etc. Internet worked good.

Great Time

We really enjoyed our stay. Everything was perfect. Very nice n cozy cottage just a few steps to the sand n waved. Very clean well stocked. Kristen was very nice and quickly answered any questions.. will definitely plan another stay-cation using this cottage. Super easy check in and check out. No problems at all

Perfect for us

Small home steps from the beach, grocery store, shops, restaurants and bars. Didn’t have to drive from the moment we parked the car. Adequate kitchen for our needs, we cooked most meals there. All the normal pantry supplies, utensils, cookware. Direct communication via text with the owners who responded nearly immediately.

Great Location

The hosts were great and quick to respond. The location was fantastic, several houses down from the sand, close to shops and restaurants. I initially booked this property because I planned on bringing my dog. That plan got canceled and I’m glad. The house smelled of dog pee and the tub had throw up in it from someone previously staying there, that we had to clean. I notified the owner and they said they would speak to their cleaning people. The other issue I had, were there were spots in the floor where if you walked over them it felt as if you were going to fall threw. Especially near the main bedroom where the floor was loose and I stubbed my foot several times. The overall house was nice.

Great little getaway

My mom and I brought my three kids here for a quick little getaway. The cottage is in a great location; we could easily walk to the beach, grocery store, shops and restaurants. My suv was too big for the garage, but there was plenty of street parking around. The only thing I would suggest would be some extra blankets. We enjoyed the patio, but it gets chilly in the early morning and evening.

Perfect location!

This beach cottage was exactly what we were looking for during our visit to Newport Beach. Not on the beach boardwalk (not what we wanted) but only off the beach by a minute or two walk - perfect. Because parking can be a challenge the added bonus of having a garage was great. The cottage itself has to be one of the cutest properties in Newport Beach. We would absolutely choose this location if we are fortunate to get out to this area again. Loved it!

Fantastic week

Kristin communicated well with us from the get-go and responded quickly to any questions we had. The garage parking was perfect for our Ford Escape. The house was just right for us and our 2 grandchildren, ages 13 and 11. The kitchen was well equipped with a microwave, drip coffee maker and toaster. There was even a blender. And, ample cabinet and counter space. The Direct TV was appreciated by the kids! There were games stored in the coffee table which we enjoyed. The house is old and the outlet situation was a bit challenging but power strips were available in the main bedroom and living room. There was also a USB wall charger in an outlet in the dining area. So important with all our rechargeable technology! There was sufficient bath towels and hand soap and enough cabinet space to store our daily hygiene supplies. The dressers in both bedrooms provided more than enough space for clothing for 2 adults and 2 kids. The beds were so comfy. Fans were also provided as the house has no AC., in addition to a ceiling fan in the main bedroom. The main bedroom windows open, which was helpful as it was unusually warm for several days. The 2nd bedroom is more difficult to ventilate. We would leave the back door open, which is in that room. The entryway area of the small home was a perfect catch all area for items we didn’t want to leave outside, yet kept them out of the way. We were happy to be able to park our 4 bicycles just outside the back door. The walk to the beach was so convenient that we could use the our own bathroom and trot back to make sandwiches or grab anything we might have forgot. We used the chairs , the umbrellas, and a boogie board that are stored at the house. The front porch was a lovely location to relax. The street was peaceful, even though it’s busy as cars come and go frequently. We felt extremely safe, as well. The Pavilion grocery store is only a block away and the laundromat just down the street. There are many restaurants nearby. Very walkable!! We stayed a week. This was our first beach rental experience and it did not disappoint!

Perfect location! Darling cottage!

My husband, myself, and our four daughters stayed 3 nights and wish we could’ve stayed longer! We stocked up at the grocery store across the street and then either walked or biked to everywhere we wanted to go. Walked to the beach, dinner, shops, and rented bikes to ride along the boardwalk. Had plenty of space in the cottage and the host was so wonderful and made everything easy and smooth. Will return for sure!

Excellent location, see the waves from the front patio

Location was great, simple walk to the beach. Unfortunately a large SUV does not fit in the garage, but we got lucky with street parking so not a big deal, otherwise parking is very competitive. Home is older and smaller, with unique traits and quirks. The single biggest issue is with the cleanliness of the home; including a distinct smell. The furniture (couch and beds) should be replaced, very old and not sure a cleaning would help. The bunk beds are a nice accommodation, but difficult to access as there is no ladder. The owners are very responsive and we were alerted when the home was ready, earlier than expected. Owner kept constant communication with me and answered all my questions about the area. Overall, the home is okay. The location is great. If you are wanting a trip to the beach with the family, this rental is a good option.

Perfect location

Location is very close to restaurants, grocery store, banks, beach, etc. Master bed was very comfortable. Kitchen fully equipped and refrigerator big. Only small disappointment was the upper bunk was hard to get in and one photo stated beach was straight in front of house (which is why we stayed there) but it’s actually a very short walk. Very tiny garage. Owner was terrific and we’d certainly stay again.

Spring break stay

We had a great time at Newport Beach thanks to this amazing house! Walking distance to beach, groceries, good food. The kids loved access to the beach equipment. We rented bikes at a nearby shop for 2 days. Overall great southern Cali experience!

Our stay here was terrific. Great communication from the owner. The location of this home is absolutely perfect steps to the ocean. Short walk to anything you need retail or food. Can not wait to stay again!

Great house, even better hosts!

We live local and had to move out of our house for the weekend. Found this cute little beach cottage and couldn’t have been happier. The location is fantastic - you can see the beach from the patio. Convenient location you can walk everywhere! Dog friendly - the mailman gives dogs cookies too while on his route. We were able to park in the garage - score! House was really cute and nicely setup. But truly the highlight of the experience was dealing with the host - she was beyond kind, accommodating and highly communicative. Absolutely great experience- thank you!!

Excellent location, wonderful hosts!

The hosts we’re great and extremely communicative. The house is cozy and had everything our family needed for our stay. This is within walking distance to many great coffee shops, restaurants, entertainment, and THE BEACH! There is access to a parking spot, albeit in a small garage, which was extremely beneficial given the high demand for street parking in the area.
