Acadia Yurts offers visitors the most unique way to stay on Mount Desert Island. Seven fun, eco-friendly Yurts and two Tiny Houses will bring you as close to nature as camping, with all the amenities of home. Located on 5 acres of lovely wooded land, surrounded by Acadia National Park property, Acadia Yurts offer a peaceful retreat for your group (up to 4 guests per 24' Yurt, 6 guests for the 30' Yurt or 2 guests per Tiny House). Acadia Yurts is also ideal for large groups traveling with accommodations for up to 34 people on 1 site.

In addition to yurt or tiny house living, the Wellness Center at Acadia Yurts offers on-site yoga, an infrared sauna and a flotation tank, all available for extra charge. Prices available upon request.

A yurt is a tent-like circular fabric structure with a wood lattice frame that originated among the nomadic tribes in Asia. These permanent, colorful structures have thick canvas exterior walls that include reflective insulation and a high efficiency heat pump/AC unit so you can be comfortable during any season. Yurts are quickly becoming a new vacation experience that vacationers are enjoying throughout the US from cliff side views in California to ski lodges in Colorado. This is a memorable place to stay while enjoying the beauty of Acadia!

Acadia Yurts

Quiet & peaceful- just what we needed after a busy day in and around Acadia Nat’l park. Enjoyed “all the comforts of home” in a yurt nestled in the woods. This was our second time staying here and it was as special as the first time.

I stayed with my two young daughters. The yurt was clean and stocked with everything we needed for us to enjoy our time at Acadia. The owners are wonderful! They were kind and very helpful. We appreciated their recommendations and help making our stay comfortable. It was a great experience. We would definitely stay again.

Absolutely Amazing Place!

Acadia Yurts was cozy, clean, quaint and provided a spacious Yurt for 2 adults and 2 dogs! The grounds are a perfect place for anyone looking to get away and stay in touch with nature. Karen and Aaron’s hospitality made our stay that much more enjoyable.

Nice Facilities and Relaxing Week

My 8-yr-old son and I had a relaxing week at Acadia Yurts. Great location on other side of island. Facilities were nice, comfortable and quiet. Would recommend.

Acadia trip

Our first time staying at a yurt with our golden retriever. The place was clean and very comfortable. It has all the essentials and it’s very spacious. Also great location. We cant wait to go back.

MDW Trip to Maine

Our stay at Acadia Yurts was top of the line. Four of us ventured to Maine/ Acadia for the first time and it was also our first time staying in a Yurt! Karen has done an incredible job at fusing the camping life and the regular BNB life in to one to create a true glamping experience. I met Karen on the property as she was passing by and she was so helpful in giving suggestions on where to eat that night. 10 out of 10 stay - cant wait to come back again!

Possibly my best vacation

We came for my 60th birthday and had a great time. The yurt was clean and had everything we needed. It was so quiet, so wonderfully quiet. We were lucky enough to be there for a couple of rainy nights and one very starry night--can you see stars from your bed? Every day we could walk our little dogs down the road and very quickly be inside Acadia. Do yourself a favor and book your own stay. You deserve the same peaceful experience we enjoyed.

Amazing ACADIA YURT Experience

Family fun Yurt time. Excellent accommodations for family of four! Near SouthWest Harbor - and Acadia National Park- easy drive to all park and island attractions then quiet nights in the woods. Karen and Aaron have quite the set up! Thank you!

Comfy oasis in the woods

Great way to experience MDI/Acadia without the hassle of camping. The yurts are beautifully furnished with great amenities in a peaceful quiet setting. Walkable/bikeable to Southwest Harbor and about ~30 minutes from Bar Harbor, but the drive is beautiful. Bring lots of bug spray however as the island has terrible mosquitos.

You can’t go wrong with Acadia Yurts!

My husband and I chose Acadia Yurts for our honeymoon and are so happy we did! The location is perfect - close enough to the bustle of Bar Harbor but far enough that you have some privacy - and the yurt was such a cool way to vacation. It was much nicer than the majority of hotels we’ve stayed at! Karen and Aaron were always available if needed. If you’re looking for a quiet, semi-secluded oasis, this is it. Acadia Yurts is a special gem.

The place is just magical. Grounds are lovely- perfectly located! All the comforts of home-but still a camping feel. The hosts are super nice and helpful. While Acadia was beautiful- The Yurt was my favorite thing! Will definitely be back. Do yourself a favor and book this yurt! Also treat yourself to a service at the wellness center. The sauna was great after hiking!

Beautiful Homebase for Acadia

We had an absolutely lovely and serene stay at Acadia Yurts as our homebase for exploring Acadia! The yurt itself was the perfect size for me, my husband, and 5-year old. It was clean and had any amenities we needed in the yurt or in the shared barn (which we never utilized but it was nice to know things were there!). So nice to take a hot shower after a day of hiking! The grounds were quiet and beautiful. I enjoyed my walks in the morning to our car to go down the road to grab coffee from the Milagro cafe! Thanks for a wonderful stay!

Cute and cozy Yurts in Southwest Harbor!

These Yurts are located in Southwest Harbor Maine. Great experience. They have all the amenities to make your stay enjoyable. Be sure to bring your laptop-they have movies to borrow--otherwise you will be totally off the grid! They do have WiFi. Near Acadia--plenty of trails to hike nearby. Dog friendly which was a plus for us. Karen and Aaron were there if we needed anything.

Relaxing stay in yurts in Acadia

Acadia yurts were an awesome place to stay that would appeal to many people. The yurts were comfortable, clean, and have everything that you could possibly need for a getaway! They are situated on the 'quiet' side of acadia, but are close to many sights such as echo lake, bass harbor, and lots of great hiking! The yurts offer an outdoorsy feel - similar to as if you are camping, because you are surrounded by quiet woods, but offer the comfort of a stay with showers, cooking, and beds! The owners have covered all of the details of your stay and are extremely welcoming and accommodating! We look forward to staying in the future!

Exceeded expectations

The yurt was described perfectly. Roomier then expected. Super clean. Supplied with everything you will need. Very quiet. If you do forget something you will most likely find it in the red barn. Owners are very accommodating. If we ever visit Maine again this will be our go to place. I would recommend to anyone.

Perfect home base for exploring Mount Desert Island Maine

We wanted to stay on the "Quietside" of MDI because we prefer things being quiet and peaceful. This was a perfect choice for this. Accurate description of the yurt and the amenities it has on the property. The yurt with its concrete floor was very large and roomy for a family of 4. With the kitchen, we had the option of eating in as well as trying some of the islands many restaurants. One of the fire roads starts very close to property, the fire roads are a less congested alternative to bike than the carriage roads. When we wanted to get over to Bar Harbor, it was an easy, scenic drive. There are plenty of hiking trails on the Quietside to take advantage of as well. If we make it back up to this part of Maine, we will stay here again.

Fun, Cool experience

I was skeptical but the yurt was really spacious, clean and had everything one could need. It was awesome to spend a gorgeous day hiking and fall asleep in the yurt to the sound of evening rain. I appreciated the AC and hot showers. We spent a week there in August (with 2 kids age 12 and 8). They loved every second of it. It was beautifully quiet. You are on the quiet side of the island but the southwest harbor town center does have some shops, ice cream, market etc. The yurts are tucked away in the woods and the mosquitos were torturous for me but once in the yurt I was pretty protected. It was a fun affordable way to be on the island during hi season. Definitely a memorable trip for the kids and everyone wants to go back!

Acerca del anfitrión

Anfitrión: Karen Roper

Aaron is an Maine native. He was born and raised across the bridge in Trenton and grew up attending local Bar Harbor schools. He has worked in the restaurant industry for the past 15+ years beginning as a prep cook in high school then moving toward general manager. Aaron's favorite extracurricular activity is learning all he can about Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. As often as he can, he trains locally and loves sharing this passion with others.

Karen is a transplant. Originally from Chicago she made her way to Maine in 2009 and fell in love immediately. In Acadia she enjoys hiking, trail running, yoga, and long walks on the carriage roads. Karen has been teaching yoga locally for over 6 years and now brings her practice to the Wellness Center (located on site at Acadia Yurts). Karen is also a licensed massage therapist and offers services onsite.

As a couple we have done quite a bit of traveling and through that we have narrowed down the particular way we like to travel. The biggest factor for us is having a furnished kitchen in order to prepare health minded foods to nourish our bodies and support all our outdoor activities. The idea for Acadia Yurts has been brewing for quite some time. Friends of ours live off the grid in a yurt and we greatly appreciate the rustic, romantic feel of the yurt but wanted some of the comforts of home- running water, heat, electricity. From there Acadia Yurts was born. We deeply hope you enjoy our home as much as we do!!
