This house is an absolute gem! Do not let the affordable price of John's Crab Shack fool you! Nestled on a wooded corner lot, this four-bedroom home is just a quick five-minute scenic walk (paved sidewalk) to the beach. Guests do not have to cross over the the busy street of Oak Island Drive to get to the beach like similar homes in this price range. With two living rooms both equipped with TVs, separate dining room and fenced in backyard, John's Crab Shack's owners have lovingly decorated with your perfect family vacation in mind!

John's Crab Shack is waiting to help you create a relaxing vacation full of cherished memories. Enjoy yourself under the shady oaks of the fenced-in backyard. Load up the beach cart and stroll over the tidal creek to the beautiful beach or try your hand at surf fishing. Relax on the beach under our shibumi shade. No need to buy, rent, or bring your own as we provide one for you. Wash the sand from your feet in the private hot and cold outdoor shower. Put an umbrella in your drink and grab a book as you relax on the backyard deck. Whip up a gourmet meal in the well-stocked kitchen or grill out on the back-yard deck. For a rainy day, John's Crab Shack comes equipped with plenty of games, puzzles, and books to keep the whole family entertained. If that is not enough, then take a short drive to historic Southport to visit museums, art galleries, historic homes and then dine in one of Southport's many excellent restaurant . For day trips, historic downtown Wilmington is only 40 minutes, Myrtle Beach is an easy 1 hour drive or take a scenic ferry ride to exclusive Bald Head Island. There is also a convenience store just one block away on the way to the beach. A public floating dock 5 streets away and a public fishing dock 6 streets away.

A great place to stay!

We had a great time with family and friends. The two living rooms and the fenced in back yard was perfect. House had everything we needed and the hosts were great.

Disappointed

I feel like the pictures on VRBO were deceiving from at least 10 years ago! The house needs a really good cleaning. The owner needs to get a new linen service. The linens were terrible. The beds and furniture were comfortable, but the deck and backyard need a really good cleaning. Should not list a working grill overall I was really disappointed

Perfect family location

This house worked out perfectly for our group of 2 families. The house had enough space for everyone and plenty of household amenities, beach gear and things to do for all of the kids - ranging 4 to 9. I loved that our dogs were welcome and the yard set-up was great for them. The location was an easy location for walking to the beach and jumping on the main road. The house is a little older, but thats's what made it kid and dog friendly - we werent stressing every little thing they did like we might in other places. Overall it was clean - but could use a deep clean to get built up dog fur from under furniture, etc. We thoroughly vacuumed a few times and picked up hair that definitely wasn't all from us and our dogs. Overall a great stay - would stay again if we are back in the area. Just run the vacuum through when you arrive and be aware its a dog friendly house.

Time to slow down

Walk to the beach was enjoyable and easy. The beach access was only golf carts so the visitors at this location were fewer than the other public beach access. House accommodations and setup were very comfortable and allowed everyone to have their own space and also areas to come together. The ping pong table, foosball, and all the bikes, kayaks, etc were such fun. Outdoor shower and fenced in backyard were invaluable. Owner is great to work with. Thanks for a great and chill stay at the beautiful Oak Island :)

Nice relaxing getaway

Nice place on a quiet street, walking distance to the beach. The house had everything we needed. We appreciated the fenced in back yard for the dogs. The host was very responsive and kind. I would recommend!

Hope to come back

This was a terrific place. Easy to get to the beach, but not in the traffic crunch area. We enjoyed the home and all the space, it worked very well for us. Because it wasn't too fancy, we were able to relax and enjoy. The yard was nice too.

Great Stay!

This place was perfect for us. It was a short walk or quick bike ride to the beach and plenty of room for everyone to have their own space. The dogs loved lounging in the morning sun in the back yard. This is an older house with lots of character and charm. We thoroughly enjoyed our time here

Reminds me of...

This house reminds me of the place I spent summers as a kid on Long Beach Island before it was decimated by wealthy developers. So good to know there are still comfy lived-in places to stay, rather than the sterile McMansions with no beach cottage feel. My dogs loved hanging out on the back deck, and we all loved hanging out on the beach! Bicycles and kayaks are available to use, along with other beach gear! I was a solo traveler, but this house would be great for families and kids!

John's Crab House

We had a wonderful time in this wonderful " happy" home! You can't help but feel good with all the fun and very unique features of this home! Walk to beach is 0.2 miles, an easy walk for the younger ones in our family. The beach is nice, and luckily, free parking during the winter months. There were 6 in our party, but this house is certainly big enough for more! All in all, this long weekend was a wonderful break for us! Hoping to stay here again!

Okay property

overall good. The property needs some updating.. There is a major dripping in the tub in the master bathroom. There is too much "stuff" all around in the closets and in the kitchen.

Great location!

The house, though older, was just right for our needs. The owners must be artistic as the interior walls are painted with multiple happy colors. The walls throughout are also adorned with brightly colored artwork. The location is excellent, very close to the water, quiet neighborhood with lovely areas to walk about in. Bicycles, kayaks, scooters, etc. available just as described. A nice large deck leads to a fenced in back yard. The nextdoor neighbor loaned us some rakes as the yard was covered in acorns and small limbs that would have been perfect for the backyard firepit. Unfortunately, we didn't do much raking or build a fire. The bike I chose had a flat tire and the airpump nozzle didn't fit the tire so I took a few good walkabouts instead. Ample sleeping, dining, and lounging areas throughout. My friends and I were very comfortable and our dogs had a great time exploring the back yard. Other than a stove that neither of us could figure out to use (nice and new) plus a more detailed cleanup list (prior to leaving) than I expected, our stay was most enjoyable. We also had great weather. Oak Island and nearby Southport offered multiple restaurants, antique and thrift shops and the traffic wasn't bad at all. I'd love to come back with my grands to take advantage of all the sports equipment provided by the hosts.

We loved the house! Had more room than we expected which was great and super cute! We left some water stuff in the garage for the next kids as we didnt need them (: Our only dislike was the amount of dog hair that came out from under the furniture.

Surrounded by a green canopy of trees, it's hard to believe our house is just steps from the sand and water. Unlike other homes closer to the beach, our house has a user friendly fenced in yard instead of just sand and concrete. :)
