We stayed at Hawthorne Lodge with our grandchildren aged 10 and 12. We all absolutely loved everything about our visit.Communication, location, the property etc just perfect. The hot tub and sauna such a bonus.Hosts Julia and Joe are lovely people.

The accommodations were great for grandparents with 2 grandsons. If it wasn’t for the narrow country roads, the location would be perfect for USA drivers!

There are 4 different countryside routes that can be taken by guests to get to us. 3 out of 4 of these routes have stretches of single track lanes with passing bays which can prove challenging for those unfamiliar with the area. As we do our best to make our guests’ stays as stress free as possible, 2 days prior to their arrival we send them step-by- step directions which will take them through wider ‘2 car’ lanes - past Llandegfedd Lake - which do not require passing bays and are much more suitable for larger vehicles.

Lovely little place, in a secluded area so total privacy all around. The place was spotless, with all necessary amenities. The hot tub and sauna was well maintained throughout our stay and the added animals was an added bonus. Just what you need for a relaxing break away from busy life. Owners were lovely too, will definitely be booking again

Myself and my sister stayed for a long weekend and the best part of this was the location of the property. It is so peaceful, quiet and relaxing. Also loved having the hot tub and sauna to use for just us. Any questions were answered very quickly and it was nice to meet our hosts in the way out one day. Very spacious and has everything you needWill be back!

We had a delightful stay at hawthorne lodge. The bungalow was beautiful, well designed and felt like a home away from home. The hottub and sauna are an extra treat. Julia and Joe are lovely hosts and very thoughtful. We will defirnately be looking ata staying again.

Relaxing

This is our second visit. Lovely accomodation, perfect location, everything you need and owners easily available if you need anything. Added bonus of sauna and jacuzzi in garden.

Relaxing Break

What a fantastic place to stay. Lovely location, with a excellent local pub/restaurant. A short walk to the reservoir which has a good cafe and equipment hire. The accommodation is extremely well equipped. We were greeted on our arrival and the log burner was already lit for us. The Jacuzzi was excellent and secluded. We are hoping to return again this year.

The house was clean and comfortable, the stove kept the house toasty warm and our hosts made sure every day that we had all that we needed. It was a very very quiet and peaceful spot, you couldn’t hear a car or any person at all- just the peaceful chatter of the chickens, geese, next door sheep and ravens croaking in the field. Beautiful clear starry sky at night.WiFi a little patchy at times. Sauna and hot tub were lovely. Thank you to our kind hosts.

comfortable property and lovely location

We really loved the property and location. The jacuzzi was a lovely treat and the bungalow was comfortable and clean. Outdoors there is a well equipped children's play area. The log burner / stove was easy to operate and made the place very cosy. As this operated the central heating it did tend to be cold when we got up in the morning and it took a while to get the fire going and the radiators to warm up. We enjoyed our stay very much and hope to be back.

So glad that you enjoyed your stay at Hawthorn Lodge. Hard to believe that last April we were in the middle of a heat wave and this year it was one of the coldest ever. Rural temperatures do tend to be lower than those within towns and cities however it is possible to bank the fire up with anthracite before you go to sleep and turn the dial down to 2.5 so that it continues to heat the bungalow well into the night. As the bungalow is well insulated it does tend to hold the heat. Had we known that you were feeling the cold we could have told you how to do it and we could have given you our electric convector heater to use until the central heating kicks in. It heats the room very quickly and is available on request. When you come back remind me and I'll make sure that it's there for you to use. Hope to see you all again soon.

A little gem in South Wales

We really enjoyed staying here. the hose was clean, comfortable and well equipped; outside the animals were a diversion for our son, and the hot-tub a real bonus in a house this size. The property is conveniently located for the major sites, with glorious countryside and venues within 30 minutes drive. The village pub is also excellent. The owners drop by the care for their livestock and (usefully) keep an eye on the hot-tub, so are readily on hand to answer any questions. All in all, highly recommended!

We had one of the best weeks, it was literally home from home, everything you could think of was there, even an air fryer which I loved there was a linen line usually places have a washing machine but no line !!. The hot tub and sauna was used every day. We loved the geese, chickens and ducks and Julia and John were lovely people they always made sure everything was ok. Thank you for a wonderful stay.

Super stay. Unique setting

We had a wonderful stay at this charming little house, complete with a relaxing Jacuzzi and sauna. Right outside is a large communal play area, offering a fantastic variety of sports equipment and toys for all ages.Inside, the house was spotless and thoughtfully laid out. The kitchen was fully equipped with everything we needed, and the lounge was cosy and comfortable — perfect for relaxing after a day out.The bedrooms were clean and inviting, ensuring a great night’s sleep. The bathroom was spacious, with a powerful shower that was a real treat.The location was excellent — just a few minutes from the nearest town, and within walking distance of the lake and watersports centre.

Great for a relaxing break

We had a really enjoyable stay at Hawthorn Lodge. The hot tub and sauna are fantastic additions. The location is walking distance to a local pub - booking advised - and a reservoir with full range of water sports. We booked some kayaking which the kids loved. Good lunches and breakfast also available. The property’s kitchen is well stocked with fridge freezer and washing machine and the property is heated via a cosy log burner. The owners were fantastic before arrival, helped with check in showing us where everything was and were available throughout for any questions - and additional logs! Thanks Julia and Joe for a lovely stay. Highly recommended.

Wonderful stay at Blackthorn meadow. Lovely peaceful location with great access to the lake and nearby Cwmbran. Thoughtfully appointed with lots for the kids to do indoors and out. Private spa area and access to open fields for kite flying, stargazing and sunset walks. Comfortable beds with great linens and towels. Hosts were super communicative and responsive. Highly recommend and can’t wait to return. Thank you.

Relaxing

set in wonderful spacious grounds, with chickens and geese and wild ducks. The jacuzzi and sauna were a fabulous addition to rest and get ready for my race at the end of our stay. My children loved it.

Lovely few days

Everything you could need for a relaxing few days away. The owners couldn't be more helpful and the property was lovely and clean. Everything provided including milk on arrival, tea and coffee. My son loved the football goals!

And Eunice came too….

We spent a wonderful 3 nights in Hawthorne Lodge just as Storm Eunice was on her way! We are a family of 4 and it had everything we needed for a comfortable stay. The TVs in the bedroom and living room allow you to login to Netflix etc which was great for a pre-bedtime family film, plenty of games in the drawer too if that’s more your thing! My husband had no issue at all with the log burner and we followed the instructions and even though it was cold while we were there we stayed warm and toasty inside even through the night in to the morning and there was plenty of hot water for washing up etc. we would definitely stay again when visiting our family in South Wales, Thank you Julia & Joe

Fantastic place

When we arrived Julia and Joe were there ready to meet, greet, and fill us with information - I think we’d of really struggled without them telling us beforehand.. so that was good! The fire place is pretty cool!! It’s old fashioned but very cool, when you have the fire on it powers the central heating and heats the rest of the house.. I loved building a fire every morning! The kitchen is surprisingly very well equipped.. sometimes when you go self catering you never know what to expect.. but it was brilliant! The Hot tub was LUSH!! It’s maintained daily by Julia and Joe, which is a relief because I’d have no idea how to maintain a hottub 🙈😂 It was great for looking up at the stars! Because you’re far enough away from light pollution, we saw a few shooting stars etc.. The bathroom is great, and the shower is a wet room style.. my only gripe would be the water pressure wasn’t great.. but it’s enough to get by with.. it’s was SUPER clean when we arrived.. Overall this place is phenomenal value for money! And we’d Love to stay again!! Maybe in the summer though 😅

Hi Nathan, glad that you enjoyed your stay. The multifuel stove/fire has what is considered a contemporary design and our system which includes the Charnwood Cove 2 multifuel fire is less than 6 years old. The water pressure on the shower is not as powerful as a power shower. It's electric so has to heat up the water just before it is released as the water is not stored in a hot water tank. It wastes less water it is considered to be more environmentally friendly which is more than can be said of our beautiful Jacuzzi Spa Hot tub which on arrival holds 1100 gallons of fresh warm/hot water for our new guests to use. We hope to see you and your friends again however one word of advice. You will need to book as early as you can; we are already receiving advance bookings for up until mid-October 2022. Julia

Blackthorn Cottage

We had a wonderful stay.We will definitely be back.The place was fantastic and spotlessly clean . It had everything we needed for our stay. The girls made full use of the play area and loved feeing the Geese every morning.I would highly recommend it to anyone.

Great location and value

It was exactly what we needed. A very comfortable, homely experience with a very welcome hot tub and plenty of space around the property for the family. The owners were friendly and did everything to make sure we felt welcome and safe. Lots to do in the area and a very useful welcome pack outlining these in detail.

Excellent communication, and friendly and welcoming owners; fantastic play equipment, easy-to-use jacuzzi, great space for children to run around; beautiful, well-maintained and comfortable house with well-equipped kitchen; peaceful location within walking distance of a great pub and the reservoir.
