This apartment is even nicer than the listing shows. You will have all the charm of staying in a real home, not just a gite. The apartment itself has lovely views, with most rooms overlooking the fountain at the nearby roundabout and others looking out to the terrace, from which the church spires can be seen. The location is superb, with virtually everything from the outdoor and covered markets to restaurants and shopping within a few blocks. And, secure parking makes it simple to use Bergerac as a home base for visiting other places in the Dordogne valley.There are a few tradeoffs. The central location means that you will hear some traffic noise and conversations from passersby in the late evening, which could disturb light sleepers. Also, although there is an elevator, there are some steps (not too steep, with a solid railing) to access the building itself, plus additional steps indoors from the main living area up to the terrace. That may be a problem for those with severe mobility impairments.In every other way, you are sure to have a delightful experience. We dined royally at La Tour des Vents in the Monbazillac area, but had an equally wonderful lunch in its own way at Empreinte, an easy walk away near the covered market. The markets were fun to explore, and we made some delicious home-cooked meals with the superb produce we bought. We also enjoyed visiting nearby towns in the Dordogne valley. You won't be disappointed!
