Mell Fell View Cottage is situated within the Lake District National Park, on the outskirts of the pretty village of Penruddock.
This immaculate, cosy 18th Century 2 bedroom cottage is in an elevated position at the end of a private lane. It has been lovingly renovated to a high standard of comfort. With stunning wrap-around garden views of Blencathra, Helvellyn, Ullswater Fells and the Pennines. Ideal for families and couples who appreciate character with modern facilities.
Large modern fully equipped fitted kitchen with dishwasher with table and 2 benches seating 4 , enjoying stunning countryside views to front and rear.
Separate utility room/boot room with WC, washing machine, tumble dryer and sink unit leading to rear garden.
Spacious, bright cosy living room, again with stunning views to front and rear. Comfy sofas and living flame gas fire, tastefully furnished in keeping with the character of the property. Smart TV, WiFi. New for OCTOBER 2023 gas central heating installed for cosy winter stays. New for 2024 - air fryer.

Upstairs there are 2 comfortable bedrooms, 1 double and 1 twin.
Jack and Jill bathroom with bath and overhead shower.
Outside there is a large wrap around garden with secluded dry stone walled terrace.
Large lawn at rear and smaller lawn to front.
Off road parking for 2 cars.

Unsuitable for children under 4 years of age due to outside elevated terrace. No stairgate, travel cot or highchair available.

Cottage ideally situated in a peaceful location but close enough to tour the Scottish Borders. There is a pub/restaurant in village 5mins walk from the cottage.

Tina was speedy with communication and provided good support to any queries before our trip.The cottage was very homely and it was a real pleasure to stay there, with lots of kitchen and entertainment kit available.And the area is simply outstanding, and so easy to get to, albeit a lengthy drive from Oxfordshire … sufficed to say that my wife commented “we will stay here again”

Stunning holiday stay exactly as described. Super responsive host. All the necessary amenities, plenty of room, wonderful outdoor spaces with incredible views. Several wonderful walks straight out the door and close to all things Lake District. Loved our stay. Especially the fireplace- at the end of a rainy day, there is nothing better than tea in front of the fire.

Lovely cottage in peaceful surroundings

The village is tiny and very peaceful but just off the A66 and very handy for Ullswater and Helvellyn. The cottage itself is well equipped and maintained to a high standard.

A home from home in the Lakes

This is a really lovely and immaculately maintained property, and one that provides and excellent base for exploring the Lake District. It is very well equipped and comfortable, and also nice and quiet - just the tonic if on a break. We enjoyed cooking and relaxing and also exploring the local area, which was new to us. We hope to stay again!

Amazing view

This is a lovely dog friendly cottage with an amazing view which we were able to enjoy to the full as we had 5 days of hot sunny weather and balmy evenings. Easy access to walks in the Lakes. It had everything we needed and the owners were very helpful.

Great Lake District cottage

We spent a fantastic week at this beautiful cottage. The large enclosed garden was well-maintained and presented and was great for both the children and the dog to play in. The cottage itself was nicely furnished and decorated and well stocked with everything necessary, including fast wifi.

Peaceful cosy cottage

Had a lovely few days at the cottage which is in a peaceful village. Communication with the owner was great and we had no problems accessing the property. We ventured into the village pub for dinner one night and used the local farm shop several times. The cottage was well appointed, spacious and had everything we needed for a relaxing break. Would recommend this property to those wanting to get away from the hustle and bustle of life.

Homely cottage in a great location for exploring the lakes

As a couple with a dog this was a great property for us. Perfect location with easy access to many great places in The Lakes. We found the cottage had everything we needed and the large kitchen allowed good home cooked meals. The property was a little cold (even in Sep) without the gas or central heating but after a while the portable heaters and a fan heater made it cosy. The views from the property were a pleasure to see each day and the good sized garden provided a great lunch or afternoon tea spot. Overall a fantastic stay and very much recommended.

The perfect rural getaway

We had a wonderful 5-night stay at the cottage over New Year. It is small and cosy and set in a small village overlooking fields and hills. The sunrise in the morning is beautiful. The kitchen has everything you could need to cook meals and there is a large Sainsbury's about 10 minutes drive away to stock up on provisions. The Herdwick Inn is a great local pub about 10 minutes walk away (take a torch if dark!) and 5 minutes drive away is a llama cafe and farm shop, Basecamp. The main hiking spots are within easy driving distance too (approx 10–40mins). We will certainly be back.

Good value, gorgeous views

The cottage is in a lovely quiet rural location with beautiful views. As a family of four the two bedrooms with a jack and jill bathroom worked well for us. The lounge is comfortable and spacious and the kitchen a lovely size too, with a table to eat at. We also appreciated the porch and utility room which was helpful when coming in with wet coats and boots. The garden is a really good size and with the enclosed wall was perfect for our dog. Overall the cottage is clean, comfortable and well-equipped. We also visited the village pub for dinner one night which is about a 10-15 minute walk.

BEWARE will charge extra fees for cleaning

Whilst this property is lovely and in a beautiful setting we found the host to be extremely impolite and have unrealistic expectations upon her guests regarding pets and cleaning. Despite paying the extra pet fee for our dog to stay the host later complained about dog hair (some of which I’m not convinced was even from our own dog) and rearranged sofa cushions (the result of our 4 year old autistic daughter). This resulted in an unreasonable extra charge being taken from us after our holiday. PLEASE BEWARE if staying with pets at this property. Or ensure you do a thorough deep clean before leaving. Otherwise you may be charged.

Nice cottage near the Northern Lakes

The MellFellView Cottage in Penruddock is a great place to stay for visiting the Northern Lake District, Ullswater is just a 20 min. drive with the car, we walked there around Glenridding and took the Steamer up to Howton. A wonderful voyage. Penrith is nice for a visit, too, some shopping in the little shops around the old town, nice cafes and charity shops. Don't miss the wonderful Hedgehog-bookshop! The cottage itself was clean and well equipped, we missed a proper coffee-machine, but a Boddum did the job. Just a minor complaint, nothing to worry about. The cottage is great for two couples or a family of four, enough space for everybody, even in the sitting room. Great garden with some rabbits, fun for our dog ;-) - we had fantastic weather, so we sat there a lot of times, for breakfast, just reading and relaxing. Wifi is a bit weak, just tolerable on the ground floor, no signal upstairs, whatever. More books to read! All in all: A great location to live and spend some quiet time in the otherwise busy Lake District. Hopefully the local pub will open again soon, a pint or two in the evening would have been the icing on the cake. Thanks!

Thank you Daniela for your honest review and feedback. It is most appreciated. Will definitely look into coffee machine. We actually took books and games out because of covid but will replace them again. As for the wifi it is super fibre. Maybe the thickness of the stone walls may have affected it after all the cottage is 200+ years old.

Be careful - might get charged for damage you have not caused to property

Please be careful when booking this property, as you might be charged for damage that you haven't caused to the property. We enjoyed the stay at the property itself as it is a clean and comfortable cottage in a beautiful rural setting, but after returning home we got a message from the owner accusing us of spilling red liquid on the bathroom floor and charging us £100 for something that we have not done. The red stains (which are negligible and look like they've been there for quite a while) were on the bathroom floor when we arrived, so whoever caused the damage, it was definitely NOT us. Our dog died just before our holiday and we let the owner know as we wouldn't be bringing him along with us as planned, but we were never offered a refund for the additional pet fee and did not care to ask for one as monetary things do not matter during times of grief. And now, to top it all off, we have been accused and charged for something we haven't done, making us the scapegoats for someone else's damage. That is uncalled for, extortionate and unfair. We always pride ourselves on taking good care of all holiday homes we stay in and we've never been treated like this before. So if you book this property and if there is anything amiss at the property when you arrive, make sure to document it as you might be falsely accused and charged for something you haven't done.

This lady stayed at our cottage a day after I had stayed there. There was absolutely no damage to the bathroom cushion floor when I had left. I replaced the cushion floor and let the lady know the full cost but in fact only charged her a small proportion of £20 plus a refund for her deceased dog. I asked her for her bank details so I could refund the balance of the damages fee. She was very abusive in her emails to me and threatening. She has never come back to me with her details for refund. As regards her dog she should have contacted VRBO for the refund. This lady even left a thank you card and £30 for the cleaner! I would definitely not rent to this lady again and past reviews speak volumes.

A haven of comfort and peace with stunning views

This is a gorgeous property, beautifully furnished, spacious and very comfortable. It is set in a quiet and unspoiled area, with views across the fells and to Blencathra, and surrounded by fields which - when we stayed - were full of sheep and lambs. There is a large garden which is securely fenced so the kids and dog could run around happily without us having to supervise too closely! The kitchen is modern and had everything we needed for family meals, and we were very happy taking a sofa each and settling down in the living room in front of the fire every evening. The bedrooms were charming, and ours had a brand new bed - bliss! Mellfell View Cottage was perfect for the family to relax and unwind after our active days out.

Fantastic inside and out

The property is clean, comfortable and really well equipped. The views from the peaceful garden were wonderful and the location was quiet but with easy access to the surrounding area. All in all a great place to spend a relaxing week.

The cottage is situated at the end of a pedestrian only lane which makes it very private and peaceful with stunning views towards Ullswater fells Hellvelyn and Blencathra🤩

Our cottage is well equipped with everything you need for a peaceful quiet stay. Furnishings are of the highest quality and comfort. We are situated with walking trails on our doorstep and between Penrith and Keswick for all your shopping needs. There is also an excellent bus service which runs through the village .
