This was a great spot for our family vacation. We are from the US and initially thought we wanted to do a coastal hiking itinerary where we walk and/or take a ferry to different accommodations every night. Lucky for us the tours offering this sort of itinerary were already booked for our timeframe! While we did some hiking and rode the ferry to Grinda one day, it turns out that some in our party would not have appreciated full day hikes for multiple days, and having a beautiful home base was a much better plan! That way our teenagers could opt in/out of or plans as they wished. The house has everything you need and we cooked there most nights. The pool is amazing, and there are lots of spots to swim in the Baltic within walking distance of the house. We found the ferry schedule confusing, despite downloading the SL app and looking at the two other ferry lines schedules as well. But it is worth noting that, while there is a ferry dock in Ytterby which is a 400m walk from the house, the ferry only stops there once or twice a day. We had initially thought we could take the ferry from Stockholm to Ytterby and then head to the other islands from that port, but it’s not really an option. I mention all of this so others know you really do need a car to get around. Our stay coincided with a European heat wave and the house did get warm. But we didn’t try to use the AC, which in retrospect we probably should have, just to cool down the loft area in late afternoon. A special spot!
