We came to see the colcano and it was right in time. Very conveniently located . Loved having the kitchen. I personally would have loved a kerig but hey i cant have everything. House was very quiet and relaxing. Believe we will come back and will definately re rent this place.I may buy a kerig and leave it...

Cozy Cottage in the Jungle

Felt like we were in the middle of the jungle, loved listening to the wildlife while enjoying our more coffee out back. Close to Volcano National Park, which is why we were there.

Cozy house surrounded by gorgeous rainforest

The location of the house was spectacular. Lush rainforest on all sides. The house was very cozy with soft lighting, warm textiles, carpeted bedrooms and natural wood everywhere. The lanai had a rain cover which was great.

It's like your in the jungle of Hawaii close to the National Park. Everything was great although it was rainy and can get cold at night up at that elevation.

Jungle Volcano House

Perfect place for a family visiting the Big Island - especially if you plan to spend time at the National Park. This house was comfortable for a family of 6 and is super close to the park. We enjoyed being in the jungle and spending time on the lanai. The hydrangeas and other plants in the front area are beautiful, as well.

One of the 2 showers didn't work, NO water at all. Called management co. Casago Kona, spoke with a man who told me "It works, there's just a knob or something." I told him it was the same as the other shower, but the water wouldn't turn on. He said he would have the "On site manager call you and talk you through it." No one called. Cleanliness was poor, dirty silverware, pots and pans; sign in kitchen saying "must wash your dishes or will lose security deposit. Housekeeping not your maid. They are here to do quick turnovers." So the cleanliness of your dishes is dependent on who was there before you! Thick cob webs on windows and ceilings, dirty carpets. No kindling to start fire in wood burning stove which is only source of heat. Confusing structure of who to contact for questions/problems, different phone numbers in 3 different places. Address given in booking different than in email.

We reserved this for 5 nights but when we walked in the mildew was so bad that after the first night we got our money back and moved. There was one review that talked about mildew but all others seemed to say it was ok. The dehumidifier had a drain through the floor but that must have been clogged because the bucket filled up and with no one to empty it the unit would stop working. Vrbo treated us well and refunded our money for the other nights.

Family stay

The location was nice and tranquil, beautiful mornings with nature at the back porch. The house needed to be aired out to get rid of the closed house smell. One of the showers did not work. Other than that we loved the place.

Beautiful property, comfortable home, clean and cozy!

We were in Hawai'i for the Merrie Monarch Festival in Hilo, but love to stay in Volcano, because it's so quiet and cool. This home is quiet and cozy and well equipped. 3 bedrooms allow for plenty of space for 3 or even 6 people. Would have loved to spend even more time in the home, but "Merrie Monarch, das why"! :)

Fantastic location and more than what we expected!

This property was great - set in the temperate rainforest area just 2 miles from the Volcano National Park. We walked around the neighborhood and enjoyed the meyer lemons from the property. The place was comfortable and had just about everything you need. We brought in some food to cook and the place had all the cooking ware you needed, etc. The fireplace was a dream as it does get cold at night. Loved the proximity to the park and we loved a visit to the golf course up the road from there and the Black sand beach about 45 mins beyond that. Great stay and we will be back for sure!

Quiet and Close to Volcano Park

Charming, clean house tucked away in the forest, less than ten minutes from Volcano National Park and 45 minutes from Hilo. Not much daylight, and no central heat, but there's a wood stove (we didn't try though) and electric blankets on all the beds. The kitchen is well equipped, but we couldn't get the washing machine to work, and minimal consumables are provided, so guests are advised to bring shampoo and detergent if possible. The listing says it's wheelchair-accessible, but we caution that the front door is at the top of a staircase. We enjoyed our stay and would recommend this place to others.

Great proximity to Volcano National park

Very close to Volcano National Park. We only stayed for 2 nights & spent most of our time out and about, but the living room was spacious enough for us to relax and watch a movie as a family. Home had all the supplies we needed. It was more “rustic” than I had mentally realized. I didn’t realize there is not just no heat but also no AC - but we were fine with the beds’ warm blankets and the weather was not humid. There were some bugs inside but the location is like a rainforest area so I’m not sure that is avoidable (plus with only being there 2 nights it wasn’t the end of the world).

Nice enough

Cosy and comfortable. Could have been cleaner. Some simple and small details like salt, pepper and shampoo would have been appreciated as well as a clean out of all the crap that other guests have left. This property is managed by a company rather than a person and it shows. it's normal that in this area the houses use rain water and most places have a filtration system. We were not made aware that this place did not have a functioning filtration system until after we arrived which I felt was poor communication.

Quiet remote jungle getaway in Volcano neighborhood

Kids loved the place and having their own cozy rooms with electric blankets. Was a nice change to go to cool/chilly Volcano after a week in the sun in Kona area. Fun to listen to the birds, watch the grouse. Volcano NP, lava tubes so close by. So fun to sightsee along saddle road when transiting across island. Clean, quiet. No ac or heat. Loud, always running dehumidifier. Complicated light switches. Limited overhead lighting brightness. Didn’t use the wood stove/heater, but was on the cusp of wanting it. Very hard to navigate rental car in and out of driveway.

Disappointed in this property. There is an overwhelming, unpleasant smell when you walk in. It is the dirtiest property I have ever stayed in. There are spider webs inside, even on the furniture. The shower in the 2nd bathroom does not work.

Great location for visiting volcanoes national park. There was a mistake about the cleaning. We arrived late in evening and property was not cleaned from prior guests. Contacted property manager and cleaning lady came at 10pm and made it right. So that part was excellent.

Awful place to stay, save your money

I am copying the message I sent to a very uncooperative property manager, we were on our honeymoon and never expected this type of experience!!!!This is ridiculous!!!! We did nothing wrong at your rental facility and the place was WAY below standards and not in any way ready to be occupied. As I stated to you on the phone the temp. outside was warmer than the inside. When we arrived there were NO starter logs, damp insufficient wood and damp newspaper, so we could not start a fire. The place smelled VERY musty and when I went over to the dehumidifier it was overflowing with water because no one emptied it! We were on our honeymoon and didn't arrive till late the first night so we just had to deal with it, not something you want on your honeymoon. We called the maintenance man the next day as instructed and he couldn't fix the dehumidifier and brought us over some damp starter logs which weren't lighting either. Then we got home later that day and the dehumidifier was supposed to be fixed, but, it wasn't done correctly and there was still a leak, which again we reported. The water damage was present on the 1st day. We in NO WAY did anything to make this happen it was already broken!! So we had to be inconvenienced again by the maintenance man. We had to do laundry and use the dryer, however, again the cleaning lady didn't do her job and we had to empty linens that were in the dryer. We placed them on the clean floor as it wasn't our responsibility to put away linens. During our phone conversation you specifically stated we would be getting a 50% refund and refund of cleaning fee and now you are backing out, all this information will be sent to VRBO and your property will be given an awful rating. You certainly are no property manager we would ever want to be involved with!! We will do our best to get money refunded through VRBO! Show original message

She called the cleaner the day after arriving complaining about the rain and her inability to make a fire. When the cleaner arrived with more fire starters and other items to aid she was yelled at non-stop as she made a fire, guest had no interest in learning how to make a fire. Noticing that the dehumidifier was not working our cleaner called the handyman to fix it and asked him to cut smaller pieces of wood for the guests. Our handyman promptly came over and was yelled at and treated with an amazing amount disrespect. He cut wood, tried to show them how to make a fire, but alas when you are yelling you are not hearing. The next day this guest called the handyman again yelling that his fix to the dehumidifier was not working, it is hard to fix things when someone is standing over you yelling. He fixed it this time, again tried to show her how to make a fire and again she made him feel horrible. On day 3 the guest finally called the property manager to complain. I timed her yelling at me before I could even say a word.. 10 minutes. The type of yelling reminded me of a young child having a temper tantrum. She told me she hated it there and could not spend another night. I told her to please leave; and that if she left by end of day that I would refund her half of her stay. After telling me she DID NOT WANT TO SPEND ANOTHER NIGHT in the house she then told me that I was a bad property manager and that was not a solution SHE DID NOT WANT TO LEAVE. After more yelling and screaming by her I asked her what she wanted me to do. Her answer was to install heat to the house. This is impossible as we do not have heat in Hawaii. I offered to find her other accommodation and asked her again to leave, she refused. I shared that unless she left our "deal" was off. I called VRBO to complain about her and they told me to call the police and evict her. I wish I had but we practice aloha here. Regarding laundry: The house had a check out the day this guest checked in and some sheets were still drying in the dryer when the cleaner had to leave for this guests check in time. A note was left explaining about the clean sheets in the dryer. The guest THREW THEM OUTSIDE on the DIRT she bragged to me during her ranting that she had done so.The cleaner returned yet again to take them home and yet again made her a fire and yet again was yelled at.
