I can only echo the comments of others: El Mango is an exceptional vacation rental in an exceptional, beautiful, and unique town. Claire is knowledgeable, helpful, and quick to respond to all inquiries. This rental is a joy to be in, its design perfectly attuned to its location. The beach is a swimmer's delight and the town is full of great restaurants. As others have mentioned, access to the unit does require being adept with stairs. Access to town is easy with frequent local buses and taxis. I recommend Ël Mango without reservation.

Uniquely delightful!

We loved El Mango. Perched high on the hill overlooking La Ropa, the casita offers perfect privacy complemented by Tony and Claire’s world class hospitality. Definitely recommend.

Great Apartment

Apartment was as described, incredible views, great location (though it is a bit isolated, so rental car or taxi use is generally required). Claire had a very nice welcome basket waiting for me (fruit, wine, cookies and chips, with cold beers in the refrigerator) and unit was very clean. Great experience.

Absolute Paradise

My husband and I stayed for three weeks at El Mango. and it was just wonderful. Claire and Tony were great hosts and totally there for anything you needed. The view is beyond fantastic and the casa is lovely, really well laid out,spacious,lots of storage and has everything you need. Very comfy bed! We fell in love with Zihuatanejo and El Mango and are coming back for three weeks next year.

The view is spectacular, the property is well maintained, beautiful and the architectural details inside are incredible. Our communication with Claire was seamless. The dipping pool is very refreshing after a day out. As long as you don’t have mobility issues, I cannot recommend this little piece of paradise enough! We loved our walk down to the beach each morning (13 mins or 35 mins to Playa Las Gatas) and taxi’s were easy to find to go back up for 80-100p. I can’t wait to book again in the future!

Great place for a couple

Very nice bungalow, clean and has everything you need for a stay of a few days or a few weeks. Terrific view from the balcony. There are some mosquitoes in the evening on the balcony, didn't bother us too much though, repellent was provided. The only other thing to be aware of is that there are about 40 stairs to climb up to the road. The housekeeper came down and helped with our bags and groceries. Will definitely be back! Thanks Claire!

Spectacular studio suite with all modern amenities & is exactly as advertised/the view of LaRopa Beach is unrivalled. Very quiet property at night/loved the cool salt water soaker pool at the end of every beach day! Access to property not for the faint of heart as it’s 86 steps from street level up to your little piece of vacation heaven. Nice touch having the light switch just inside the locked gate to see yourself up the stairs safely at night. Easy downhill walk to La Ropa beach when you cut through Punta Marina condominium property and down another 76 steps in the back alley. Can’t wait to come back again, Claire & Tony.

Sewage gas and no sun

Truly the only thing this property has is a nice view at night. However you can’t enjoy it because you will be eaten alive by mosquitos. Sewage gas was emanating from shower for 3 days. Owner tried to make light of it and not provide a proper fix so we had to leave 4 days early and try to find another rental which was not easy last minute. Location is literally a wooden door in a rock wall which no taxis could find. Had to carry luggage up 4 flights of very steep stone stairs. Balcony received no sun. Nice furnishings and other amenities but didn’t make up for the rest.

We are very sorry that this couple had such an uncomfortable stay at "El Mango". We immedeatley refunded the guests the nights they didn't stay , including an additional 2 nights (one more than requested). There was a bad smell emanating from the shower drain and we were trying to ascertain if and how it was connected to the street being dug up below our property. We had recently put a check valve in the shower drain and were surprised the smell could get through. After going through the bungalow's entire vent and water system, we concluded that the check valve wasn't working. The odor problem has since been resolved. The clients had been living with the problem for days and were rightly upset. We inquired as to why they hadn't notified us immediately and were told that they didn't want to "bother us". As with anyone who stays with us, they were advised on arrival to notify us immediately if there was any problem. We responded immedeately each time the guests had a request or problem. It is a 2 1/2 story walk-up from street level to the Bungalow which is in keeping with the hilly topography of Zihuatanejo. The view at night and during the day is magnificent because of the increased elevation above the street. We call our entry door through the rock wall the King Kong door, which is very distinctive and a bit hidden if you are not looking for it. We have obviously achieved our goal of hidden seclusion, perhaps that is not for everyone. We do have lush vegetation surrounding the property and we realize that some people are more sensitive to pesky insects during the hours around sunrise and sunset. It is always wise to retreat into the air-conditioned bungalow or into the rooms which are all screened to escape during that time if you are bothered, the view is the same. Insect repellent is always provided. We are sorry they couldn't experience how lovely a place our secluded retreat truly is.

Paradise? Indeed...

My wife and I stayed at Tony and Claire's bungalow, El Mango, and we enjoyed every minute of it. It was our first couple vacation for more than 15 years, and we could not have chosen a better spot for it. The place offers everything you need and is extremely well designed, but the best part of it is the view. From the bed, kitchen, couch, and lounge chair, you can see the spectacular view of the bay of Zihuatanejo. From morning to evening, you are a spectator to a show of color and lights that you will never forget. It will make you want to come back on a regular basis.

My Favorite Place on Earth

If I could live in this place...I would! The hosts have thought of everything to make sure that you were beyond comfortable. The surroundings are lush & beautiful. An incredible mango tree is right on your balcony. The view never gets old. We hung out on the balcony more than we should have. This place is a gem...but I should say it is a diamond.

Nos encantó todo, la casa es muy cálida, muy espaciosa, los anfitriones son muy atentos, hay mucha tranquilidad excelente para descansar, con una relajante vista a la bahía y muy cerca de las playas la ropa y las gatas, el único detalle para los que llevan coche es que no tiene estacionamiento propio pero hay un espacio en la banqueta de enfrente, sin problema ahí nos pudimos estacionar y los días que nos quedamos no tuvimos ningún problema en dejar el auto ahí. Si van no se van a arrepentir!

Great stay at El Mango

This was our 6th visit to Zihuatanejo and the first time we stayed on this side. First off my husband and I whole heartily agree with all the previous reviews. We stayed 3 weeks and throughly enjoyed our time at El Mango. We love to walk and staying here we sure got our exercise. Found a shortcut to the beach which included 215 stairs. Having said that, cabs are readily available if you so choose. And if you need a break from all that sun, spend the day on your balcony taking in the fantastic view while having a drink in your splash pool. Having Tony and Claire living above the casita is a great asset and we hopefully in the future will be able to once again stay in this beautiful bungalow.

Spectacular view with total privacy

We were met by our gracious host, Tony, who was extremely helpful and made us feel instantly at home. The guest house is new and very high end with huge windows showcasing the gorgeous view of Zihuatanejo Bay. Breakfast and cocktails on the lovely deck surrounded by jungle was lovely and completely private. The kitchen is very well equipped with everything needed for a gourmet dinner. The lighting is great....romantic and functional. The king bed is very cozy and lots of storage space too. We’ve stayed in some very nice condos and hotels but none any nicer than this lovely casita. We can’t wait to return.

Paradise Bliss!

Words cannot describe this outstanding property! No detail was overlooked when designing, decorating, or providing amenities for this place. It has a view that you could never get sick of, gorgeous grounds, & wonderful owners. It was so nice to have such a complete kitchen with an amazing view to be able to make meals & not feel as if you were stuck inside. The location is perfect for the beach & watching the tinkling lights of the bay at nightfall. If you get a free moment, don't pass up a catamaran cruise on the Picante also, it has one of the best hospitable crew team that I have seen. We regretted that we could not stay longer. Zihua is one of my favorite places in the world & we are looking forward to coming back to this beautiful bungalow! Thank you for being such awesome hosts!!

My husband Tony & I were both born in New York.
I went to college in Oregon and my Tony in New Hampshire.
Before we met, we had both done many years of world discovering and later formed our respective careers, I in accounting and Tony in yacht building and sailing. Together we sailed the Caribbean in a sailing yacht that I built for 3 years. We later settled in Florida to organize our future. We decided to build catamarans in Cancun after seeing the explosion of growth there as well as our extensive experience in that gorgeous area. Our daughters were born there.

Voici pourquoi l’hôte a choisi cet hébergement

Before we met on Isla Mujeres, Mexico, we pursued quite different passions.
I was an accountant working for various firms in San Francisco, California, and Tony learned the craft of yacht building in Belize & Florida as well as sailing the Caribbean..
We combined our passions to build 2 sailing catamarans for the tourist trade in Cancun where we started our maritime corporation and began charter operations.
Several years later, we switched coasts, settled in Zihuatanejo and started another charter operation here with another multi hull.
We were afforded the opportunity to buy a spectacular piece of property which we dedicated our skills to build "Casa Sol" a true work of architectural art (or so others say).
Tony had a constant need to create so he built "El Mango", something for a couple as in our days in the confined spaces of a sailing boat where all amenities and comforts are met but that small space offers an intimacy and privacy that creates a magic unfolding of a relationship or a renewal of deep bonds. That's our experience and I hope everyone who stays with us will gain in some degree a similar experience.

Voici ce qui rend cet hébergement unique

When we first arrived in Zihuatanejo to start our new life with our kids, we knew before hand that this was an idyllic paradise. Pacific ocean and all that offers, lagoons with panoply of bird and wildlife, endless beach and coconut groves, burro or oxen driven carts, cows, goats, all right in front of you. And most importantly for us, genuine, real identity based town people with wonderful families. People here know who they are, body, mind and soul so they are not intimated by your presence. Just the opposite, they welcome you to share in their lives. That was the most important factor in our determination to live here with our kids. While living directly behind Playa La Ropa in our initial years here, we kept gazing at this hillside located on the southwest side of the bay which was totally empty of homes, condos, etc. Nothing. We kept driving up here to enjoy the year round sunsets, views of Zihua, the tranquility, the spotting of an anteater or trying to name birds that we had spotted. We noticed also , of course, that this side of the bay had the fair wind in your face, the south and east storm winds blocked by being tucked under the hillside and you did not have to endure the unrelenting sun all day but only enjoy the magnificent colors of the sun as it set into the Pacific. It was kind of a no brainer.
And then we were offered a piece of property exactly where we were dreaming all those years. It was just offered to us. I guess you can call that preordained.
