Welcome to The Amsterdam House’s Swiss Suite- a gorgeous airy first floor apartment settled in the heart of Jim Thorpe’s Historic District. You’ll be steps away from restaurants, museums, shopping and other attractions.
The Space: We have everything you’ll need for an escape from everyday life. From an open living room with a chef's kitchen that will make your stay in Jim Thorpe both relaxing and delightful. The bedroom is provided with a king size bed, a full size sofa bed and a second bedroom off the master with full futon and twin bunk bed. The suite has a full bathroom and its own washer/dryer. The original wood floors and details from this 1846 home are not to be missed.
Location & Activities: Centrally located, diagonal from the Mauch Chunk Opera House, and walking distance to downtown (restaurants, museums, galleries). Penn’s Peak is nearby with a short drive. Great area for biking; Mauch-Chunk Lake is close. Bicycle storage is available in a nearby garage (must be reserved). We have a guest binder located in your room with other preferred recommendations upon your arrival.
Outdoor Space: Through the unit in the back is a small courtyard provided with a grill, or take the steps up to the second floor for a larger, shared backyard. Perfect for outdoor dining, barbecue and relaxing. Amenities & Convenience: Our beds are already freshly cleaned upon your arrive and prepared for you. The kitchen includes pots, pans, knives, cutting boards, prep bowls, a small food processor, a 4-cup drip coffee maker (filters included), toaster, large crock pot, and a variety of spices and condiments. Bath is provided with linens and soaps for your use. Enjoy HD TV with HBO-GO, Netflix, Amazon Prime, and Hulu. We use wifi-extenders for the best possible connection, though internet can be limited in Jim Thorpe. A washer/dryer is provided in this apartment (use appropriate settings; no outside laundry or pet bedding).
Parking: One reserved spot in a nearby lot is included; an additional spot may be available for a fee. ZERO on-street parking is available (permit-only). Briefly double-park to load/unload. Stairs, halls, and basement are shared common areas.
We have a Non-smoking policy in or on the property. Please take a walk up or down W. Broadway to view the sights.
Pet Policy: Dogs are permitted ONLY with prior email approval and a nominal pet fee. ALL guests with a dog must email me first.

I'm Laura, the owner, and I purchased this property—specifically the second-floor "NYC Suite"—as a retreat from New York City. My love for the Netherlands inspired the name, and the apartment's urban feel reminds me of Soho lofts. Having lived in NYC for over 30 years, I find Jim Thorpe's charming, slower pace and historic architecture a perfect escape, echoing my passion for Amsterdam. My mini schnauzer, Copine (French for 'girlfriend'), and I invite you to enjoy our home away from home!

Laura is a great host. The location was perfect, a 5 minute walk from downtown Jim Thorpe. The designated parking was a huge bonus. The unit itself is a really nice unit. The ability to have a dog there is fantastic but beware, grass is scarce which can be a downer for your dog.

Jim Thorpe was originally a “horse and buggy” town which means limited driveways as well as limited on street parking. Now the town has zoned/designated street parking for local residents only.
My parking is, according to google maps, a 1-min. Drive/ .3 miles from the lodging (not .5 miles).
This guest was provided an additional parking pass which is also a rare amenity in Jim Thorpe. Having a place to safely park your car and walk almost everywhere in Jim Thorpe—that is what is most requested with me listing. Location, spacious and clean + parking.

We stayed for the weekend to enjoy Jim Thorpe. This place was above my expectations. It was convenient to everything we wanted to do. We parked the truck and just walked everywhere, dining, drinks, brewery, dinner, entertainment, shopping, train ride and church. Three coffee shops in the next block down. I was so happy to have a place so clean and secure. Thoughfully decorated for Halloween. So cute! Super easy to check in and check out. Host was flexible and very responsive. Would definitely stay again when we come back to Jim Thorpe. Recommended 5 stars!

Nice stay in great location
Overall very good and we had a nice stay. The bed was super comfortable. We're experienced with B&B's, and in most respects this property was very good. Nice old building in fantastic location with all the amenities you'd expect; plus dog-friendly...which we really appreciated. We typically cook some meals in the room, and this property was well suited for that. Shower/tub were very good.
The one critique is that for the price (this property is on the expensive-side), the heat in the room was not good (we stayed during the fall so it was getting cold at night). The suite has an old steam-radiator design but the room itself doesn't have any controls; so it's either "on" or "off" and is controlled by the property manager for the entire building. So we were either too hot or too cold, and were using the AC and opening windows to cool-down when it got too hot. We had to contact the manager several times to request the heat be turned on or off. This is simply not appropriate for an expensive stay.

Unfortunately, this was the first night of the season where I had to turn on the heat and so the weekend was very cold and then the weekend got warmer.
It’s on my priority list to get individual HVACs for each apartment in the building. Unfortunately, it’s hard to find people to do that work in this area. It will be a game changer for myself because I stay on the second floor.
And anyone who has stayed in an old Victorian house or an old building knows that, the Charm and the frustration is that it’s either too hot or too cold with steam radiators. Whether you have control over them or not.
