We happened to be staying at The Shelter during the Nor'Easter. We were marooned and Deb allowed us to stay, free of charge, which was very kind. It has been so comfortable here. There was some flooding on the roads nearby from over wash from the sound. Neighbors with a truck took to us to the local Red and White for groceries. The highlights of the house for me were the fenced in yard for the dogs, the wonderful decks, the best napping sofa ever, and very comfortable bed. We enjoyed cooking here. I love all of the color in the house. For being under a state of emergency we have definitely felt "Sheltered" from the storm!

Great property! Plenty of amenities, a short walk to the beach, and perfect for bringing your dog with the fenced in area. A perfect beach house that is clearly loved by the owner and it was a great place to enjoy the beach with my family of four.Bring bug spray though because the mosquitoes are brutal. And bring toilet paper or stop at a store on the way because there is none, and the last thing you want to do is run out and get some after being in the car for 12 hours ;)

Location and view! We loved this little getaway- easy walk to the beach and enjoyed the top deck for sunsets and water views. Best outdoor shower too

We chose the Shelter for our 21st anniversary vacation. The location is amazing! To be so close to the end of the island, in a true OBX beach cottage, right by my the marinas and with a remarkable view of the ferries coming and going is just what we needed!!! The fairy garden was a beautiful surprise that I throughly enjoyed exploring. And the walk to the beach…..it’s what you see in paintings!!! The house was comfy and the fenced in yard was nice for the 4 legged child. It’s charm is a rare find!

We just stayed at The Shelter again, and it was every bit as wonderful as we remembered! Deb is always so great to work with — responsive, kind, and clearly takes pride in making sure guests have a great experience.The house was spotless when we arrived and just as comfortable and inviting as our first stay. It truly feels like coming back to a favorite place. We also noticed the upgraded toilet in the master bath, which was a really nice improvement and appreciated touch.Once again, we had an amazing time and look forward to coming back in the future!

Place is exactly as described, amazing views from the deck, clean, perfect location, literally 3 min walk to the beach. My dog couldnt get enough of the top deck sun bathing! Felt like home, cant wait to come back.

Absolutely perfect property! The property was amazing from the view to the easy stroll to the beach. It's pet friendly and the doggos had a blast. We couldn't be happier with our stay! It was very well equipped and had everything a family would need and then some. We will most definitely be back.

Great location, great amenities!

This was everything we wanted in a vacation. Great local spots, easy walk to the beach, fun trip to Ocracoke, and great house amenities!

We enjoyed our stay. The neighborhood was super quiet. Friendly neighbors aided us in checking in. The place was clean and spacious; the bathrooms were a little cramped, but everything worked.Almost everything was provided. No towels, no toilet paper. The small kitchen appliances were a little challenging, but we made them work. there was a dining table for that family dining experience. We cooked the majority of our meals; also used one of grills. Some of the items in the website photos were not onsite anymore.My only complaint is having to haul everything up a flight of steps. I would recommend this place for people visiting the area. It's a three-minute walk to the beach. There are several eateries and shops within walking distance. The location helped make this place a great place to stay. I would stay again.

Kitchen supplied very well for all types of cooking. Drip and pod coffee maker, seafood steamers, pots and pans of every size and type.Very homey and comfortable, and host was very responsive, not Saban like at all . will book again

Great location

We loved sitting on the rooftop deck to view the sunset and stars. The house is in a wonderful location in Hatteras village. Very convenient walk to the ocean and restaurants.

My Wife and I enjoyed the convenience of having everything you need and want to do in walking distance. We set outside and grilled while enjoying our panoramic view of the ocean on both sides of us. Pat was very kind and welcoming the entire process.

Thanksgiving get-a-way

Property was the perfect size for our needs. Great location for our family and close to our daughter's place so we could enjoy visiting with little driving. No towels were provided, but luckily i had brought some.

This property had everything we needed and is in a great location. The kitchen has many pots, pans and utensils. We enjoyed the outdoor spaces. Would love to stay here again.

Great Escape

My family went to the Shellter for spring break this year. What a great escape. The beaches were vacant, full of shells, and our dogs had a blast in the ocean. What a great house and great location. We loved all the special touches and character of the house. We'll definitely stay again!!
