Duck Road Central Locationđ¶Dog FriendlyđŸParking &Tennis Passâ±Walk to the Beach
Henry's Castle is a 3 bedroom, 2 bath "beach box" type cottage centrally located on Duck Rd. in the community of Southern Shores. Close to everything in Duck and Kitty Hawk, but with a "tucked away" feel on a large wooded lot. Newly decorated and furnished, with a Boho style retro feel, tile floors, wrap-around deck with screened in porch and picnic table, and a crows nest.
The house is an approximately 1/3 mile walk to the nearest beach access. Beach accesses in the community of Southern Shores are only for residents and guests and most do not provide parking of any kind, so our walkable accesses and the beaches are remarkably uncrowded even in the peak of summer.
If you would like to drive to an access, we provide a parking pass for the Southern Shores Civic Association beach access at Hillcrest Drive. The site has 2 showers, toilets, a gazebo, benches, and a viewing platform. The beach and viewing platform are wheelchair accessible. A volleyball court has been constructed at this site, as well. We are members of the Tennis Club, so a pass for the courts on Hillcrest Drive is also provided.
The cottage has an open concept living room and (fully stocked) kitchen/dining area area, with tile floors throughout the house, and a wraparound deck with a gas grill, screened porch with a picnic table for outdoor dining.
The master bedroom features a queen size bed and en-suite bathroom. The second bedroom features a queen size bed. The third bedroom features a single over double bunkbed set. All bedrooms have memory foam mattresses, high quality cotton sheets, and Roku streaming TVs.
On the ground level the workshop/storage room has been converted into a game room (not attached from the inside) to a "Game Room" with a full-size refrigerator, smart TV, foosball, ping pong, and darts. Under the house, we provide a hammock, cornhole, and ladder ball games for outside. For cooler nights there is a fire pit oustide in the "backyard" area.
*Please note - our "yard" is intentionally left with the Outer Banks' natural, slightly rugged, indigenous landscape. It is not manicured or necessarily suited for children or dogs to use or play in. (We don't mind if you enjoy the space, but it is "as is".) Also, the game room is a converted storage area not connected to central air and heat, but we have a portable a/c unit in the room that you can use in warmer months for climate control.
The cottage is located just 2 miles from the Village of Duck with its wide selection of walkable restaurants and shopping options and 4 miles from the Harris Teeter and Food Lion grocery stores and Wal-Mart shopping center.
We also provide a beach cart and some limited beach gear for your use.
We supply the first roll of toilet paper and paper towels, but guests are responsible for needs after that.
Propane for the gas grill is on a "pay it forward" system - if you use the last of the tank, please exchange it at a local grocery store, Walmart, 7-11, or Ace Hardware. Also, please clean the grill for the next guest before you checkout.
Beach gear - if you use it, please rinse it and put it back as you found it before you check-out. If you break something, please replace it with something equivalent.
Loss of Tennis Club or Parking Passes will result in a $100 fee for replacement.
PLEASE NOTE - IF BRINGING A DOG.
*Dogs must be disclosed, included in the reservation, and approved by us. The maximum is 2 dogs.
*Pet owners must clean up after their pets. This includes waste in the "yard" and sweeping up excess hair in the house. If you know your pet sits on furniture, please bring extra sheets or blankets to mitigate hair on the furniture. We rovide a lint roller.
*Dogs must be well-socialized, FRIENDLY TO HUMANS in case we need to access the house for a maintenance issue, up to date on flea meds and shots, and not left unattended or uncrated in the house for extended periods.
You will be asked to sign basic rental agreement and provide a copy of ID as a condition of booking.
I stayed here for a month while working in the area. Check in was super easy and hosts were extremely informative about the residence and the area. Beds were very comfortable and the house is very cozy. I especially enjoyed all the wild life (deer). Very short and safe walk to the beach. Right down the road from Duck with lots of shopping and restaurants. I was very impressed with this house and would stay here again and again.
Water was cold and Jelly fish owned the waters so we spent time on the beach minimal swimming and enjoyed the location of the house. Shopping and dining out.
Our family was relaxed and happy in Henryâs Castle. Check-in was simple. We cooked breakfast and lunch daily: the hearth-style kitchen-living room made it easy to cook and eat together. The cottage has just the right amenities and spaces to promote quality time. Less than 5 minutes walk to a lovely beach.
Henry's Castle was perfect for our family's first vacation to the Outer Banks. Comfortable, clean, and convenient, it was just right for us. Thanks for the hospitality!
Everything was exactly as shown. The kitchen was well stocked, plenty of hot water for showers, clean and comfortable! We totally enjoyed the wrap around deck and the roof top deck! Annette was wonderful. She kept us informed and checked in on us to be sure we were all set. We Loved our home for the week!
Two adults and four kids (ages 10-14) thoroughly enjoyed our stay! The easy walk to the beach was perfect for evenings. When we had all our beach gear, we really appreciated the included parking passes that made a day at the beach so easy. Great location, great extras for the kids, great star gazing from the roof. Would stay again!
My family had a great week in southern shores. The property was great with everything we needed and the games room went down amazing with the kids . Thank you
Everything was great. It was just my family of four with our fur family and the house and area was perfect for what we were looking for. We loved the private feel of the entire house but yet close to the beach. My husband and kids loved the game room, dogs loved the outside, I enjoyed the decks! Communication was also great between homeowners and us. This was our first time staying up the northern area of OBX, and we would absolutely stay at this house again.
We had a great stay at this house. The house was very nice and clean, and our host was extremely responsive. The house is conveniently located right near local shopping in Duck, just 20 minutes from the bustle of kitty hawk, but in a quiet area with easy access and walking distance to the beach.
Good Property, Communication, and Location. 8 min walk to the beach, but you do have to cross a busy street. Quieter less touristy part of the OBX. Property had everything we needed in the kitchen, bathrooms and bedrooms!
This property was perfect for our family vacation! There are 5 of us, but it will comfortably accommodate 7. The house was better than pictured. Everything was very clean & we walked to the beach every day. Also loved how close we were to Duck, as this area is not nearly as congested as some of the other areas of Outer Banks. The outdoor shower is perfect to spray off after the beach & the screened in patio area is great for dinner. We loved everything about this house & would definitely recommend it to anyone traveling to this area!
Loved all the gated decks and screened porch. Perfect for hanging out with my friends and dogs. Lovely grounds with lots of trees and shade. Very clean and had everything we needed for kitchen. Spacious with attractive decor. Loved game room and had lots of ping pong matches.
In a busy street but pros far outweigh cons. A lovely neighborhood close to Duck and kitty Hawk.would rent agin.
We had a wonderful time at Henryâs Castle! The house was extremely well stocked with every kitchen appliance you could possibly need and so many beach chairs and umbrellas! We enjoyed the multiple gated porches and spent the majority of our time either sitting on one of the porches while our dog sunbathed or hanging out at the beach which was a quick 7-10 minute walk away. Our teens enjoyed the game room downstairs and watching movies on the flat screens in their room and the living room. The only thing to remember is your body wash and shampoo! Henryâs castle provides literally everything else and more! We will definitely be staying again!
Our trip was a last minute decision to stay for a weekend, and this place did not disappoint!
The host, Annette, was delightful and the communication was excellent. She offered a list of things to do in the area for my kids in case the weekend was stormy, but luckily we were able to spend the whole time on the beach. We were given a parking pass for a place 2 mins down the road where we were able to park comfortably and the beach was not crowded. It has showers, bathrooms, and tennis/pickleball courts.
The house is very clean, beds comfortable, shower pressure and air conditioning was perfect. There is covered parking and a game room downstairs with a tv, ping pong table and foosball that my kids really enjoyed. There is also a screened in porch right off the living room where we played card games and hung out in the evening.
This was a very enjoyable stay and we look forward to staying at Annettes place the next time we're in the Outer Banks!
