Thank you for your kind comments about your stay — we’re so glad your family enjoyed the home and that the kids had such a great adventure. The historic winter storm that week brought an unprecedented amount of snow to the area and unfortunately caused a regional power outage well beyond anyone’s control. Although we are unable to control weather conditions, we felt it was important to fully refund your stay (excluding VRBO and cleaning fees) to ensure your family was taken care of. We always strive to provide a true five-star experience for our guests, and we’re proud of the consistent feedback we’ve received over the years. We’re sorry this stay was impacted by circumstances outside of everyone’s control.

Thank you for recognizing the cabin’s beautiful, quiet setting, cleanliness, spaciousness, well-stocked linens, and our responsiveness. We would also like to clarify several points for future guests. Smoking is strictly prohibited inside the cabin. Because the home has a wood-burning fireplace, guests may occasionally notice a natural wood-fire aroma that can be mistaken for other scents. The cabin is supplied by a community well, and temporary mineral discoloration can occasionally occur. When this was reported, we advised flushing at all points (faucets, toilets and showers) and also contacted the water company, which assisted with flushing the faucets, showers, and toilets until the water cleared. The blender had unfortunately been damaged by the previous guests shortly before this stay. We offered to reimburse the guests if they purchased a replacement in town. Amazon deliveries are not recommended because mountain deliveries are handled by third parties and can be delayed. The garbage disposal was newly installed and functioning when the cabin was prepared. The ice maker has also continued to operate normally during our visits since this stay. When the downstairs DVD player stopped working, an additional DVD player was available upstairs. We have not observed a problem with the ceiling fan, and several portable floor fans are also provided. The downstairs beds have platform-style frames that allow for storage underneath. Bed height and mattress firmness are matters of individual preference, and we understand that comfort needs can vary from person to person. A gate key and instructions are provided for guests to use throughout their stay so they may enter and exit independently. We are also happy to open the gate remotely as a courtesy when we are available. We provide a generous starting supply of toilet paper and paper towels, along with multiple reusable kitchen towels. With ten guests staying for an entire week, additional consumable supplies may occasionally be needed. We were in frequent communication with the guests both before and throughout their stay and responded whenever a question or concern was brought to our attention. As a privately owned mountain cabin there are indeed natural characteristics and occasional quirks associated with mountain living. Including the wood burning fireplace (aroma) and discolored water (from minerals). We remain available to help whenever questions or unexpected maintenance concerns arise.

We’re so happy that your family enjoyed their stay at our Whittle Cabin. During the winter months some of the roads within the park and our driveway can be tricky, 4 Wheel Drive and/or Chains may be required during these months.
