My husband and I have been vacationing in the Outer Banks for more than 30 years, and this is the best house we have had. It is beautifully decorated, all of the equipment was operating well, the house was stocked with everything we might need from kichen gadgets to electric grill, t.v.'s in all the rooms, lots of gear for the beach, our host was readily available if we had any questions and she had kindly provided supplies we might need so we didn't have to rush to the store--things like paper towels, toilet paper, shampoos, body wash, sunscreen, spices, even some food and soda. There was so much natural light, and all of the sliding glass doors worked well (this is rare, especially for oceanfront homes). The last thing I want to add is that we have rented a number of homes where the houses we have rented do not look like the photos that are posted which clearly were either done by skilled photographers or the photos were taken quite some time ago and they do not reflect the current look/state of the home. Not so for this house as it was as lovely as it appears in the photos! What a delighful stay.

Our stay was absolutely wonderful! The host was exceptional—so helpful, responsive, and made everything feel easy from start to finish. The home itself is beautifully updated and truly felt like a home away from home.We especially loved the gorgeous sunrises and the perfect ocean view from the upper balcony—such a peaceful way to start each day. It was very family-friendly, and our girls had the best time playing games and just being together. As a mom, I really cherished sipping my coffee while taking in that amazing view.We couldn’t have asked for a better experience and would love to come back!

One of my concerns when renting via VRBO or any online service is the accuracy of the pictures in the listing. I'm sure it’s expensive to get a photographer to do that work. But to my point, these homes get a lot of use, pics don't always reflect what you're signing up for. Hosts seem to overlook how critical that piece of information is to someone trying to remotely rent a property. Pics in the listing for Mermaid's Grotto set some pretty high expectations and they were met. The property was comfortable, clean and provided some great areas to hang out for our family. The host, Nadine, was extremely adept at responding to my questions and was easy to reach at most any time. The house, too, was well equipped....from the games to the kitchen tools, to the beach gear and the initial supply of essentials. Thank You, Nadine...hope we see you at Thanksgiving !

Fantastic property. The house was well maintained and beautifully decorated. The location is perfect- right on the beach dunes, just steps from the beach. Nadine is a fabulous host, extremely responsive. I would highly recommend the property.

Nadine was amazing at communication from the time we reserved all through check out. Ocean view is only available from the master bedroom but it is set up nicely for coffee and a balcony to sit out enjoy the view. There is a protective dune that blocks the view from the main level and the access to the beach is just one house over and easy to get to. Nadine has thought of all the things one might need to have in the kitchen and there are upgrades throughout the house. We did not have any children but this house is equipped with all the necessary items and the bunk beds would be a fun room for the kids. The laundry room is filled with beach chairs and items to have fun at the beach. We spent a week with our grown kids and their spouses and did all the fun activities (aquarium, Manteo, Jockey's Ridge, Bodie Lighthouse, Spanky's, The Rundown, and other great places). Thank you for a fun-filled week!

Mermaid’s Grotto

The Mermaid’s Grotto is in a perfect location. Very easy access to the beach and lots of space to spread out on the beach. The decor of the house is fabulous and the communication with the owner was easy and quick. We would definitely recommend this beach house to family and friends and hope to return.

Beach family getaway

This property is stunning. We especially loved the spacious living area, large kitchen island, master suite on the upper floor with private balcony & coffee bar, and outdoor shower. What an amazing home! The location, decor, cleanliness, fully stocked kitchen, ocean/beach front, and quiet location make this a 5 Star destination. Just a short drive to Fish Heads restaurant and another 5 or so minutes to all shopping, restaurants, and entertainment Nags Head has to offer. The sunrises are something not to be missed from the primary suites balcony. Just a great way to start the day. You may find bigger, but you’ll be hard pressed to find a home that checks as many boxes as the Mermaids Grotto.

Perfect Place to Relax and Enjoy the Ocean

We visited this home for a four day golf and fishing trip! It was wonderfully decorated, clean, and the perfect set-up with the private upper bedroom within the upper loft area and the three other bedrooms (all good sizes) included one with bunk beds together for a larger group. The owner was very accommodating and a great communicator. Nags Head Golf Links was close by and a beautiful course with insanely amazing views of the water! I would suggest to any families or adults on an excursion that they rent this exquisite home, we also look forward to coming back...soon!

The perfect sojourn

Great family fun on the beach

The house design, layout, and care in details and proximity to beach were all great! We especially loved the children books, watering color paint books, and the sea shell poster under the kitchen table to match our sea shells to. We were also big fans of the Captain Stumpy the Pirate Cat books and ended up buying our own from the Manteo bookstore. Overall a big hit with our daughter. Thank you for a lovely stay
