The Dakota, Dog Friendly Cabin at Lake Algonquin

The Space:

Welcome to The Dakota, a modern log-sided cabin nestled in the Adirondack mountains. The main floor is designed for comfort and convenience, featuring a living room with a leather sectional sofa and a 42" flat-screen TV with DIRECTV and a DVD player. The dining room offers seating for six. The modern kitchen is equipped with stainless steel appliances, including an electric stove, refrigerator, dishwasher, microwave oven, and coffee maker. The downstairs bedroom has a queen-sized bed. A full bathroom with a bathtub, plus a washer and dryer complete the first floor. Step outside to the screened porch or the covered front porch. Upstairs, you'll find a second full bathroom with a shower. The second bedroom features a full-sized bed, twin bunks, and a 32" flat-screen TV with Roku and a DVD player. Enjoy high-speed Wi-Fi, central heating, and air conditioning. Outside, there's a charcoal grill, a large flat area for activities, and a fire pit for evening gatherings.



In the spring, summer, and fall, enjoy canoeing, kayaking and fishing using our canoe and kayaks. Paddle up the Sacandaga River or over to Lake Algonquin directly from our property . Our boats are available based on spring and fall weather. Boats are always available from May 15th to October 1st. Our grill is charcoal, just bring your charcoal and lighter fluid and enjoy outdoor cooking! - or just sit back and enjoy the wilderness that is the North Country. Behind the cabin is a large flat area for activities and a fire pit for s'mores and relaxing in the evenings. On a clear night, the stars are amazing!



It's a short walk or drive to the town beach, where you can swim or soak up the sun. Or, explore the many hiking trails in the area, leading up mountains, to waterfalls, or into the solitude of the forest.



In the fall, the leaves are spectacular! There are many beautiful scenic byways you can drive right from our doorstep.



In the winter, enjoy skiing, snowshoeing, sledding, tubing, ice skating and snowmobiling. Hamilton County has some of the best Snowmobiling in NY. Our cabin is directly on the NYS trail system with access to hundreds of miles of groomed, marked snowmobile trails. We also have plenty of parking for your snowmobile trailer.



Next door to the Dakota is our other cabin The Yogi. They are separated for privacy however are also very popular for families to rent both together for larger gatherings. Reach out to us for more info, or a link to the listing.



Guest Access:

Guests will have access to a private paved driveway and a gravel two-car parking area directly next to the cabin. There's also a larger 60' x 100' paved parking area suitable for trailers or RVs. Please contact the owner if you plan to bring a trailer.



The Neighborhood:

Our cabin offers a peaceful retreat in the heart of Wells, New York. Nestled just off NYS Route 30, it's easily accessible while providing a sense of seclusion, set back 350 feet from the road. While the immediate surroundings offer tranquility, you're also well-positioned to explore the Adirondack region. Nearby, you'll find opportunities for outdoor adventures, from hiking and fishing to simply enjoying the natural beauty of the area. The cabin is located 3 hours and 45 minutes from New York City, 4 hours from Boston, 3 hours from Montreal and 90 minutes from Albany.
