Relax to the soothing sound of Lickskillet Creek. This home is situated in the Bald Creek area of Yancey County near the quaint town of Burnsville. Burnsville is the quintessential small town nestled in the foothills of Mount Mitchell, the highest peak east of the Mississippi. It is known for its artistic vibe and outdoor adventures. Its town square offers restaurants, local shops, galleries, antiques, and a lively brewery.
The space
At Lickskillet there is plenty of room to relax inside and out. The creek boarders the back yard which has a fire pit, picnic table, hammock and two decks. The front yard is flat with plenty of space to play and a picturesque barn and pasture across the road. The house was remodeled in 2022 making it feel fresh and clean. It is decorated in a trendy bohemian farmhouse style. The main level of the home is accessible by two steps and has all the living space on one level. There is a rec room in the basement with a ping pong and foosball table, couch, video games and card table making this a great hang out space. This area is not heated or cooled but stays comfortable most of the year.
Guest access
-There is about an acre of flat yard to play in. There are some yard games/sports stuff in a storage building that guest may use.
-The laundry is in the basement.
Other things to note
Please note the rec room in the basement is not heated/cooled but does stay comfortable for a good part of the year.

This rental was absolutely perfect, my family decided on gem mining for vacation. This place is perfectly tucked away but close enough to Asheville and the mines. The creek in the back yard gave a perfect soundtrack to unwinding in the evening and collecting thoughts as the sun burns through the fog. I highly recommend staying here

This place is so relaxing and the creek is the best! We really enjoyed our time here. We loved everything about it. Loved the decor and quiet street that this place is located on. The surrounding farm landscape is so peaceful too. We even got special visitors from 2 of the sweetest dogs from down the street. They gave us company at the fireplace and even played in the creek with us, haha! Our teenage sons really enjoyed the outdoor activities that this place offers too. There is a building with soccer balls, kick balls, badminton set and more!

My family had such a wonderful time staying here for the week! You get the best of both worlds -- mountain living yet only 12 minutes to downtown Burnsville and 45 min to Asheville! The creek was a massive source of entertainment for my kids 3,6& 8. And we thoroughly enjoyed nightly Foosball games as a family My kids are already asking to come back Also, the house was not only spotless but the decor was so cute and cozy -- truly a home away home! Do not sleep on this property!

A beautiful home in Burnsville! Well decorated, very comfy beds, the home had everything we needed and more! We especially enjoyed the hot tub and sitting by the creek in the mornings.

The host clearly put a lot of thought into making the property feel cozy and inviting. We loved the records and the kids loved the basement and hot tub. The indoor Easter egg hunt the host put together for the kids to find upon arrival was super sweet.

We loved the quietness of this neighborhood and the creek sound could be heard on the porch. Heather was great about communicating with us when we had a problem with the wifi/TV after a storm cut the power off for an hour...they helped us get it back running. All of the beds were very comfortable to all of us. My elderly Mom (82) was with us and I would advise anyone 65 and up if they have knee issues at all, they may have difficulties from where the driveway is to get up the slope to the front door and one of the 2 steps at the front porch is unusually high with no rails. I would stay again, just probably wouldn't bring Mom. Thanks.

This place was great and lived up to the rating. The house was perfect and the location peaceful. We enjoyed fires by the creek, cold nights by the wood stove, the hot tub and just relaxing in general. We actually enjoyed Burnsville as much as we did Asheville and ended up shopping and eating there more than we did in Asheville (The brewery was our favorite). Bonus points for the most comfortable bed and best sleep I’ve had in a while. We are already planning a return trip.

The home was very warm and clean when we arrived! Very easy to get to, The roads were all plowed and salted so you don’t have to worry about driving a 4WD.I had some questions mid-visit and the host was very responsive. Over all no complaints and I would definitely book again!

We loved our getaway!

Great house for a couple or a family. My husband and I truly enjoyed our stay at the Lickskillet house. A nice getaway with lots of relaxation. We also enjoyed our visits to the little town of Burnsville! Hope to get the opportunity to return some time.

We loved our stay! The home is very clean and welcoming. There were touches of Halloween all throughout the home to make it feel festive. The space was very relaxing and just what my husband and I needed to get away from all of the business of life. The host was easy to contact. I would love to bring my family back for a vacation.

Our family wanted a place we could relax and enjoy a slower pace of life but still be within 30 minutes of everything we love. This will be a retirement home some day but for now we are happy to share this sweet little spot on the creek.

Lickskillet Creek is a swiftly moving creek about 5-6 feet wide and at it's deepest it comes up to around you knees. This is a sweet holler with good people and beautiful mountains.
