Get lost in the mountains while only being minutes from town! This adorable 2 BR/2 BA cabin has all of the feelings that you are in a treehouse and that you are lost in nature with pure relaxation while having all of the modern conveniences only about 3 miles down the road.
Lovely wooded property with 5 acres, bordering forest service and plenty of room for exploration, and a short 10-minute mountain walk through the forest to the lovely Nottley river. Only 5 minutes from Historic Downtown Murphy and the Harrah's Valley River Casino.
Your Primer Hosts Eric & Zoe will ensure your delight!
This place was amazing. The owners were great. The amenities were great. Everything was very welcoming and it was well appointed. The location was fantastic and we had such a great time.
Nice location. There are small touches and items that shoithe thoughtfulness for guests. Very pet friendly and accommodating from toys to water bowls and treats. Awesome hosts as always!
I waited almost a week before writing the review of our stay at Whitetail Retreat hoping my opinion might change. It has not. The review comes as a mixed bag of pros and cons. Whitetail Retreat might be the perfect place for someone but for us it was not. We came to spend our 40th wedding anniversary doing what we enjoy, fishing and relaxing in the quiet of the woods. Believing that a cabin on 5 acres with a "short 10 minute walk " to the lake sounded ideal we decided to book the place. Privacy, peace, quiet and a place to fish. Who could ask for more? The reviews on VRBO were great and we were looking forward to our trip. We arrived right at check-in time. The cabin was easy to find, door was unlocked and the interior was inviting. After having spent the previous hours driving we decided to walk down to the lake to check it out. You can imagine our utter surprise to find a NO FISHING/HUNTING sign posted at the entrance to the trail leading to the lake. Although disappointed by the NO FISHING sign we continued our walk down to the lake. The descent wasn't too bad but the trek back up is not for the faint of heart. Even as people who walk or ride bikes many miles everyday we struggled with the hike back to the cabin. My 73 year old husband didn't think he was going to make it back and had to stop many times to catch his breath. Dogs barking, filthy outdoor space, not relaxing. We left early.
Everything was great. The only negative for us specifically on this property was that we were towing a motorcycle with a trailer and there was no turnaround area. It was also at the end of a dead-end road. Eric and Zoe even had that covered - they offered us the option to unload and park the trailer at another location of theirs close by. Our rental was very private, secluded, clean, stocked with literally everything you could possibly need, and one of the few that advertise as pet friendly and actually allows cats. (Most pet friendly locations are dogs only). Eric and Zoe checked in on us a couple of times just to be sure all was going OK and they even had a dozen fresh eggs from their farm as a complimentary welcome. Their price was very competitive for what you get, highly recommended, definitely will be back!
This cabin in the woods feels like being wrapped in a warm blanket. It was very comfortable. After being out during the day it was nice to come back to a welcoming cabin where you could relax, make dinner and watch a movie. You are surrounded by trees while only being 3 miles from town. Comfortable bed and plenty of towels provided. Our hosts were very helpful when needed. One note, while it is a short ten-minute walk to the lake, it is very steep, which might not work for all.
We had a wonderful stay! The property was beautiful, spotless, and offered a peaceful, private atmosphere. It was stocked with everything we could possibly need, and more, which made it feel like a true home away from home. The hosts went above and beyond to ensure everything was perfect for our arrival. We would gladly recommend this property to others and look forward to staying again. Thank you for providing one of the best short term rental experiences!
This house was everything we needed and more. The owners were so nice, responsive, and hospitable during our stay. The house is secluded enough to be private but close enough to town that you dont feel isolated. The house was also superbly clean and the eggs and pup treats were a very sweet gesture. The beds were comfortable and the bathrooms were well stocked with extra towels. We vacation in Murphy a lot because we enjoy the lake so we will definitely be back. If you travel with your fur baby you will be glad you booked this house. The porch is gated and there is a pet relief area so you can take them out at night without worry. We have stayed in many homes over the years but this one checked all our boxes and exceeded our expectations. I highly recommend booking this house.
Beautiful cabin! Cabin was well stocked and spotless!! Path to the lake was so beautiful and peaceful! The hosts are so friendly and welcoming! Highly recommend this place!
We had a wonderful time staying at the 5 acre Cabin, Myself along with my wife and daughter and our two dogs had plenty of room. The cabin was clean and has a very charming decor. The hosts Zoe and Eric had some thoughtful extras for us upon our arrival one of which was a dozen delicious farm fresh eggs from their chickens. Our dogs and us really enjoyed the daily hikes on the private trail down to the lake as well as a couple of hikes on downtown Murphyâs River Walk.. The griddle was used often for cooking meals and the wrap around porches and deck provided a relaxing atmosphere. The cabin is mere minutes from down town Murphy but feels much further away. There are so many things to do in the surrounding area you will have no problem finding something interesting to enjoy. The only cautionary thing to mention is that this is a typical mountain side retreat with a narrow drive and parking, bigger vehicles could potentially have an issue turning around, I have a full size truck and my daughter has a mid size car, and while she was parked there I had to back in or out of the lane to park or leave, but after she left it was tight but I could turn around in the driveway. All in all it is a wonderful property and we look forward to hopefully staying at this cabin again on a future trip to the Murphy area.
Property was as described and then some. When we arrived snacks and wine were waiting. Kitchen lacks for nothing. Plenty of space in bedrooms, kitchen and living room. Wrap around deck was outstanding with a table to eat outside after cooking on a fully equipped Blackstone grill. Had one question, host responded very quickly. Murphy is a quaint mountain town with a river walk, downtown and local shops. Plenty of hiking nearby. Love our time at this cabin.
We spent our Thanksgiving in Murphy and this cabin is rated an 11 out of a 1 to 10! The cabin was decorated for Christmas and it was beautiful and cozy and SOOOOO CLEAN!!! The hosts was wonderful too. If you're contemplating renting this cabin, stop it! Book it!!! You will not be disappointed!
It was a wonderful stay! Loved the pet relief area! My dog wasn't having it though she wanted the real grass at the top of the trail haha! Loved the wrap around porch. My kid loved having the downstairs all to himself. We caught a few fish down at the river and almost stepped on a turtle headed down to the river. Little tricky getting to at night.. We got in the wrong driveway and tried backing out quickly. It was wet and we started spinning tires, thank God for 4x4. Bring some boots if you plan to go fishing, it can get muddy! Great trip, can't wait to get back. Last weekend in Oct or first weekend in Nov have the best scenary for fall!
We had such a nice time. This was our second time staying here. This time we were able to see the fall colors beginning to show. We enjoyed a morning of adventure down by the lake and saw a Bald Eagle flying. It was so neat to see. We visited the Nottely River Valley Vineyards, went on a trail ride with Chunky Gal Stables and enjoyed a nice walk along the Murphy River Walk. We really enjoyed porch sitting, watching the birds doing their thing and grilling each night for dinner. Eric and Zoe are wonderful hosts, and made sure we had everything we needed. Their cabin is so cozy, and we always feel at home when we visit. Canât wait to return!
