Location, Location, Location, this beautifully restored home is located in one of the most sought-after neighborhoods in Washington, and only a 5-minute walk to downtown Washington, the social district, restaurants, shops, pubs, and bars, the riverfront, and the civic center. E
Enjoy exclusive private use of 2 large bedrooms and a private bathroom on the second floor of a fully restored 140-year-old Victorian home.
Guests have exclusive access from the front porch and private entrance through the front door to the main entrance hall, and stairway to the second floor. Come sit.
Owners/hosts live on the ground floor with access from the driveway and rear porch.

What a find for a two-night mother-daughter trip to Washington, NC! Keith could not have been nicer, both through online communication and in person. He greeted us when we arrived, gave us a brief history of the house and the renovation of it, and told us everything we needed to know about the upstairs rooms we had use of, which also included a sitting room that contained a large tv, small fridge, microwave, coffee maker, and dishes/utensils/cups/mugs. The beds and linens were very comfortable. Perfect getaway location for a mother-daughter or best friends trip. I will definitely recommend it to anyone I know planning a trip to Washington, NC!

Quick Weekend Away
The house is lovely. The beds and linens were super comfy and cozy. There was plenty of coffee, tea and water available for us. They are working on an upstairs sitting room which will be a nice addition. Street parking was convenient. We were able to park right in front of the home the whole weekend. You also can't ask for a better location. The river is directly across the street and all the downtown shops and restaurants are within walking distance.

Keith and Gayle live on the ground floor of the Swindell House with their two dogs Louie the old man of the house and Blue, an Aussie Shephard puppy who is a more recent addition to the family.
Keith and Gayle relocated to Washington from California in 2018.
They purchased the Swindell House in 2018 and have spent the last 4 years restoring the home and its historic features.
Gayle has a strong background in Interior Design and her special touches are evident throughout the house.
Keith is a semi-retired Business Consultant and now runs a non-profit here in Washington supporting and working with local small businesses

This fine example of a classic 2 story frame Queen Anne Victorian home was built in 1889 and sits on what was part of the Boat Yard owned by Hull Anderson a liberated slave who purchased his freedom and ran a successful boat yard on this site from 1830 to 1841. I 1889 Frank and Jesse Bowers built this house and the corner house next door. When the land was subsequently subdivided the lot line also divided the Carriage house which can still be seen to this day with the Groom's quarters on one side and the Carriage room and stables on the other side. Dr Swindell in 1923 purchased the house in 1923 and lived here until 1969. Dr Swindell ran both the Riverview and Fowle Memorial Hospitals from 1919 to 1958
