Tire Swing · O'Neill Cabin - a rustic reclaimed retreat
Summary:
At O'Neill Cabin, we offer a unique experience for our guests. Our rustic, private, riverfront, cabin is remodeled with reclaimed materials, creating a cozy and intimate atmosphere for a retreat. The covered hot tub is perched up on the river's edge with views of the river, the forest, and the sheer granite cliffs of The Index Town Wall. Soaking in it is the perfect way to end a day of exploration in the mountains. Come experience the magic of the North Cascades Mountains with us.
The Space:
This fishing cabin built in the 1950s is begging for you to come relax, unplug, and let your stresses float away on the North Fork of the Skykomish River. Take a soak in the covered hot tub perched over the river and gaze upon the famous Index Town Wall as bald eagles look for steelhead in the waters below. This cabin is one of a cluster of cabins on our 5 acre gated riverfront property. Please enjoy the new custom shared sauna and cold plunge on the yoga deck.
The cabin features a custom kitchen counter top made from reclaimed Teredo Clam Wood boards and river boulders. There is a full sized fridge, apartment sized range, retro microwave, coffee maker, and selection of all the basic kitchen supplies. Grill your favorite dish on the Webber propane BBQ after a long day on the slopes - Stevenâs Pass Ski Area is 30 minutes away - or hiking, fishing, or tubing on the wild river.
The master suite is donned with reclaimed wood walls, a queen sized bed, and a brand new 43" smart TV. The connecting bathroom has a custom stone rain shower, including a river cobble stripe with a 50 million year old fish fossil smiling at you while hot water beats down on your head. The second sleeping area is in the common living room and is outfitted with a queen sleeper sofa, the linens are located under the other bed.
This property (The Pietsch Pit) is gated and is THE last house on the secluded dirt road. If you want to get away and unplug this is truly a spot for you. Located steps from the river you will follow the fishing trail down to the world famous Skykomish to fish for Steelhead (WA State Fish) and Dolly Varden trout in the honey hole directly in front of the cabin! The river can be a little cold, but no worries -- jump into your private, covered hot tub to soak away the chill and hash over your battles with the Steelhead that you and your friends are about to enjoy.
The hot tub is perched under a log structure formerly used to store horse supplies, like hay and feed. It faces the great Index Town Wall, which attracts rock climbers from all over the world. This sheer granite cliff is part of the Index Granite Batholith which also hosts hang gliders who are brave enough to test old man gravity! Soak your bones in your private tub while you try to spot a climber halfway up the wall and turn down the bubbles so you can listen to the soothing hum of the river below.
The property sits on an acre field of grass with dozens of evergreen trees scattered about. Kick a ball, throw a Frisbee, play croquet, or toss a horse shoe in the custom cedar log pits. Run freely in the fields of O'Niell Cabin and donât forget to have a fire in the river boulder fire pit riverside.
The town of Index is 0.2 miles away by foot or car; only 2 rapids by kayak! There is a general store in Index with basic supplies, wine, and beer, but most significant grocery runs we do in Monroe, WA, about 20 minutes west, toward Seattle.
In town, be sure to check out the Outdoor Adventure Center. They offer world class rafting and kayaking, serve an amazing selection of great micro brews (mainly in 22oz size), and have big TVs that often are tuned to the Seahawks on game day.
This is a unique property at the end of a road, 30 minutes from Stevens Pass Ski area, and steps from one of the last wild rivers in this country. We hope that you enjoy your stay!
Guest Access:
O'Neill Cabin, private riverfront firepit, the acre of grass field, the private forest walking trails behind The Treeframe, and The North Fork of The Skykomish river.
The Neighborhood:
Index is located in the western foothills of the Cascade Mountains; the summit of Mount Index is located 3 miles (4.8 km) south of the town. The Index Town Walls, granite cliffs up to 500 feet (150 m) high, are located on the northern edge of the town. These walls are popularly used for rock climbing, offering a variety of high-quality cracks for this purpose. According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 0.23 square miles (0.60 km2), all of it land.
Index is located on the North Fork Skykomish River, just above its confluence with the main channel of the Skykomish River. The Skykomish River's Sunset Falls, a nearly 300-foot-long (91 m) granite chute that drops some 100 feet (30 m), is located approximately 1 mile (1.6 km) from the town (on the South Fork Skykomish River).[citation needed] In December 1980, the Skykomish River flooded the town and destroyed eight homes.
The town is located 1 mile (1.6 km) north of US Highway 2, approximately 25 miles (40 km) west of Stevens Pass. The BNSF railroad, formerly the Great Northern Railway, runs through the middle of the town. Index was once an important stop for the mining (particularly Monte Cristo and Galena) and timber activities north of its location.
Other Things to Note:
We now offer grocery service! Please send us your list to have your fridge and pantry stocked.
