The week began with a beautiful rainbow overlooking the stunning, expansive property. This set the tone for our first multi generation family vacation. For a very large house, there was a warm feeling, reflective of the many generations who have lovingly maintained this little slice of paradise. A favorite outdoor activity among our crew was playing ‘Capture the Flag’ on the lawn, while the adults watched from the terrace with a cold beverage. Many games of tennis were played as well. We enjoyed the nice cross breeze through the open doors while playing family games in the evening. We took advantage of the close proximity to Newport and enjoyed a sail on the Madeleine. For the most part, there was something for everyone right at the house, including the grounds and the walk to the beach. The portraits on the walls, the namesakes on the bedroom doors, the volumes of books and Owen Wister’s ‘stand-up’ writing desk all tell a rich history that interested everyone. We enjoyed a week in a bygone era. The house was well stocked with household essentials for the kitchens and bathrooms. Thanks to the gracious hospitality of our host Alice, we felt well received and comfortable. Communication has been great throughout. So many memories were made this week. As nine year-old Molly said “this was my best vacation ever!”
