Carla's husband called me about an hour prior to arrival (they were driving from Florida) and although I had a hard time figuring out what they were talking about it seems there were some issues. Once they arrived I met them and made sure they were OK. Carla started pointing at the little carpet near the sink that it wasn't washed or vacuumed. It was perfectly fine but we threw it in the wash anyway. She said the toilet bowl had mold in it which I used the brush and cleaned it for her. I saw that both the front and back doors were wide open. I advised them that with all the rain, from Hurricane Florence, there would be mosquitoes coming in but the husband said they are from Florida and used to it. Apart from the upstairs guests and the side neighbor complaining about shouting matches from inside the apartment, I didn't hear anything back from Carla or her husband until this review. They left the doors wide open so the mosquitoes came in and although they were used to it my next guests were not and they complained about it and I had to go and rectify the problem. The 5x7 opening is a utility panel to the anti-hammer valve of the dishwasher and it is in an inside wall so nothing comes and goes through it. There is no open drain in front of the unit. The drain cover has bigger holes so the leaves don't block them. The stairs are outside and were wet from rain of Hurricane Florence being pushed in our area. There aren't staircases/steps inside the unit. The shower curtain is not new and maybe in need of replacement which we will inspect and replace if needed. (since this we have inspected it, washed and put it back). We do change these items regularly. If she would have pointed it to me I would have replaced it then and there. The unit is not/has never been moldy. We have lived in this house for 31 years and have never had any issues. The building across the street is an old folks home with low income tenants which have never caused any issues for us or our guests. They are simply living their lives. I have to say that while I was visiting them the husband was quite nice and seemed apologetic for all the fuss Carla was making.

Maria and her son were great guests. They left the apartment in a great shape. We would love to host them again in the future.

I didn't have the pleasure of meeting Josh and when he told us about the mosquitoes we realized what had happened. The previous guests had left the doors open while they were staying there since it didn't bother them being from Florida (they told me that they are used to mosquitoes and it doesn't bother them) and brought in a lot of mosquitoes from the outside since we have had a record rainfall earlier (from Hurricane Florence). The neighborhood is quite safe as we have never had any issues nor our guests. This is an old folk's home for low income people and they have never posed any issues. We have had many single women stay with us and two, in particular, who are repeat guests where both work for the federal government who love the unit. I am sure the police officers are trained to see things that need policing and tourists see things that need touring. I am sure Josh had no issues staying with us and it's just his perception that he is projecting. As far as towels are concerned we had plenty of them in the front closet that he missed. We do have simple rules like any other rental and they are there to help our guest have a pleasant stay.
