The Glass House of Spring Green is an architectural gem set along a ridge of native prairie grasses and oak woods, with an exceptional view of the Driftless Area hills. Built in 1984, it was enrolled in the Driftless Area Land Conservancy, assuring that its native landscape will be maintained in perpetuity. Its parklike setting assures a private, peaceful retreat.

Prairie plants and native trees dominate the 24 acres near the house and mowed paths give access for birding, botanizing, picnicking, snowshoeing and skiing. A large deck with ample seating faces the distant hills and vivid sunsets. Inside an extensive library offers reading for all tastes, from history and nature to fiction and photography.

A single story, 2,300 sq ft home, the 3 bedroom and 2 baths stretch along a hallway leading from the central space. A glass wall brings the outside in to the central space. The 3 bedrooms include 1 king, 1 queen and 1 twin bed set up, all with easy access to one of the 2 bathrooms. The kitchen is fully equipped to please even the best gourmet cook.

Nearby outdoor recreation includes the Wisconsin River and Governor Dodge State Park for paddling, swimming and hiking. American Players Theatre, Frank Lloyd Wright's Taliesin, the Spring Green Art Fair and many music venues are within a 15 minute drive. The House on the Rock is less than a mile away and two golf courses are close by.

The easy-access layout includes ample parking and a large, walk-in tiled shower in the main bathroom. WiFi and Satellite TV service is reliable. The geothermal heating and cooling system is both comfortable and environmentally friendly year-round.

It is well suited for larger outdoor events, by special arrangements with additional fees.

As you see in the photos, this home is appropriately named the Glass House - set in a beautiful prairie with floor to ceiling windows almost everywhere, you'll truly feel like you're communing with nature. The well equipped pantry with some basic ingredients helps and there is enough comfortable seating for an enjoyable evening. Weather permitting there is also a huge deck for early morning coffee or an evening glass of wine. Only 20 min. from American Players theater, it's the perfect location.

My family loved staying here. The house and the land around it were beautiful. My daughter loved walking out to the tea house and exploring the other paths. We heard the bees buzzing and the birds tweeting every morning. We enjoyed eating out on the deck and seeing the sunset and rise. We come out to this area 1-2 times a year and are hoping to return in the future.

We had a wonderful stay and thoroughly enjoyed our time here. Having visited before in the winter, it was especially nice to experience the property during the beautiful summer weather. The kitchen has every dish you might need to cook, it’s very spacious with indoor and outdoor seating and a beautiful view! Everything was very clean and the host was immediately responsive with any questions that I had throughout the stay! A reminder to anyone going to the tea house outside to check for ticks after but the view is worth it!!

The home is a true gem. It’s peaceful and quiet and overlooks rolling hills with no other homes in sight. The house was clean, comfortable and Barbara provided detailed directions. It’s close to Taliesin and The House on the Rock and the beautiful countryside of western Wisconsin. I would highly recommend this property.

The Glass House and I have been connected for a number of years, having know the architect, the builders and the owners. I love the house, the landscape and all the values of land stewardship that the owners have manifested throughout the property. I live 15 minutes away, so I work closely with our team of cleaning, maintenance and landscape pros. It is a magical place and I feel very fortunate to be associated with it.

Voici pourquoi l’hôte a choisi cet hébergement

One can rarely find such a beautiful landscape in a rental property. The restored prairie surrounding the house has received prescribed burning for 20 years and the views from the back of the house and the deck rivals those of the nearby House on the Rock, which attracts thousands of visitors from around the country. There are no other houses or roads visible from the house and yet the 1/3 of a mile driveway is level and easily driven year round. It's a naturalist's paradise.
