The property is situated in a fantastic location right on the Core Sound. The times around sunrise and sunset are amazing! The time on the porch having morning coffee and evening drinks was a battery recharger. Unfortunately, the property wasn't prepared for our arrival, e.g., beds not made up, bed sheets not washed, etc. Additionally, the property is in need of some handyman work. The host was responsive and ended up discounting our stay for our inconvenience. This could be a fantastic property -- but it definitely needs some attention (and a new housekeeping service). Overall, it was an OK stay. I'd be willing to go back after the handyman chores are done and the kinks with housekeeping are worked out.

We had a great time! Enjoyed watching all the wildlife from the dock! The sunsets were beautiful! We will definitely be back to stay again in the future!

We had a wonderful stay at this peaceful, beautiful property located in the "Down East" area of coastal North Carolina. If you like a quiet, rural environment, this place can't be beat. It is special!

The Oak Winds Cottage was amazing! The view was spectacular from the living room and the porch. The screened-in porch was a great touch! The home was well laid out and provided an enjoyable stay. The neighborhood was quiet which made this a great place to relax. I highly recommend this cottage!

Upon arrival at 8:00 at night after a day of traveling we arrived to a beautiful cottage that had not been turned over for the next guest, us. Dirty rags in kitchen sink that had egg on it was dry and hard as a bone starting to turn black around the edges.Well we though if that all, we will deal with it.Without exploring anything else we unloaded our truck ready for bed. I had also noticed some unfolded linen in the living room and some chairs propped against the double doors holding outside doors shut as they would not lock. As I walked into master bedroom there was no linen on the bed,as they were piled into the floor as were the linen in the other bedroom. Dirty towels and rags in the floor of the bathrooms. And there were several bags of garbage piled in the garage with a bad stinky.Toilets was dirty also.The pillows with no pillow casing was very nasty looking you would never know if pillow casing was on them,looked like mold on them.Very disappointed we contacted the host and she told my wife to just wash the linens that’s what she would do if she walked into this situation.We ask to have the room free for the night and she said can’t do that might could give a discount though. We just ask for a total refund and she agreed and gave it back.Had it not been for my daughter who lives in Atlantic we would have been stuck driving at least 30 miles to find a motel.This incident ruined our whole trip. I think the property could be a jewel if not for what we had to go through

Peaceful, lovely and close to the ferry

We were 2 miles from the ferry for Portsmouth Island which was the reason for our visit. We brought all of our meals to cook at the house and the kitchen was well stocked. We enjoyed sitting on the porch looking at the water in the evening. We will definitely stay again when we are in the area.

Anniversary stay

Very relaxing home. Beautiful views of water! Loved time sitting on swing and using the dock for feeding the seagulls and sun bathing. Enjoyed our time down east. Hope to visit again!

Our stay at Oak Winds Cottage was wonderful. The cottage is very private & view but an incredible. We fished off dock and went to the island by boat. Pulled the boat up to dock. It was perfect. The fishing was perfect. We will definitely be coming back annually. The

Simply a great place.

My wife and I have stayed throughout the Beaufort/Harkers Island area over the years, and this "Down East" cottage is the best of the best! It is simplicity, privacy, and world-class views rolled into one. The property is built for relaxation. It has a beautiful covered dock, a screened-in porch for evening enjoyment, and a small beach area. Inside, you will find beautiful prints and artwork describing the "Down East" way of life. The open concept lets in plenty of light, and enhances views of the Core Sound. The furniture was very comfortable, and the cottage was very clean. If you want to get away from crowded condominiums, and traffic congestion, this is the place!

The house is in a very good location and its a very nice house. However, the first thing we saw when we drove up in the driveway were four full bags of the previous renters trash sitting in front of the garage door greeting us as we got out of our car! And they stayed there the whole length of our stay! On the front door step there's some brown looking gunk and I'll leave it to your imagination of what it is! It would make a lot of people turn around and leave! Yes you could walk around it but why didn't the cleaning service clean it up? We get inside and start putting stuff up and the freezer door handle comes off. The screened porch has a lot of screen missing so its unusable. And it's way too dirty anyway. Ten out of the eleven entry doors in the house will not lock at all! The wind would actually BLOW open a set of double doors leading from the dinning area to the screened porch! Anyone can just walk right in whenever they want too! The toilet handle was broke in the 2nd bath. Had to remove the lid to manually flush the toilet! There were no sheets on the beds in 2nd bedroom. Remote control to the tv in that bedroom was missing. Sand coverd the porch floor as you step out of the living room. Could not find a broom! Over all the interior of the house was pretty clean. The pillow cases and the washcloths looked grungy looking. Rental cost was 900 for three nights. Asked the owner for a two hundred dollar refund. Said no way. I don't think that was too much too ask????

Nice get away, very peaceful... great star gazing and water views!!

We enjoyed our stay! The cottage is very private, enjoyed sitting on the porch with the water views. At night, stars and the moon were beautiful! Floated and sunbathed at the dock area during the day. The only negatives, the house has a lot of personal items in it. A little worried we would mess up a sentimental item. Learning some history of Linda and the cottage was interesting... it was almost like she was with us! It is a little drive from Beaufort to get there, but worth it. Baths and kitchen and furnishings could use a freshening up. But... overall a very nice, a little off the grid long weekend!!! We had a good time!

Down east NC was a first for us. The outside of the house is the best part. Dolphin watching from the dock was a favorite, even a family of sea otters. The refrigerator had a high heat alert and was at 55, broken freezer handle, and the toilet would not flush. There was trash from previous renters in the garage and outside. We improvised since the property manager said her contractor was on vacation as well. With some maintenance this place could be amazing.
